Well you oculd put the rats and Mortal Combat in a Dredge deck tweak. But then you'd have to hard card mortal combat :rate0::(

The problem with Mortal Combat is that you have to devote a lot of deckspace for creatures for it to work. On top of that, you have to make sure they go to your graveyard somehow. On top of that, you have to get Mortal Combat in play and keep it there until your next upkeep. On top of that, you just screwed yourself when you Extirpated your win condition. LOLz. ^^
relentless rats, thumming stone, mortal combat. even if you lose you win! lol.
(and for the slower people that means thrum out all the rats and lay the mortal combat. either the people kill off all your rats or take the damage next turn. if they take the damage they should be dead. if they kill the rats you win on upkeep)

absolutely beautiful...haha - the core decks can be so simple. i honestly wouldnt have been upset if the black theme deck was that.....sadly theyd HAVE to make that deck more than 40 cards...and itd break all sorts of rarity ruling theyve followed when building their theme decks, but still its a great lesson about combo potential and difficulty of pulling off said absurd combos. good important lessons to learn for new players!
Not like the Thrumming Rats deck is new, it's just that now it's in Standard. =D

that the Rats and mana give you little room to build.

id say more like 28x rats, 22x swamps, 4x thrumming stone, 4x mortal combat, 4x diaolic tutor, 2x damnation. simple and clean. can always drop a stack of rats until you get thrum and mortal combat. mulligan to 5 or until you have a thrum and rats; whichever comes first.
There are a number of things that hate this deck. From what I have seen in six games on MWS, four of which I won, is that there is a bunch of hate out there that hurts. Leyline of Singularity, Extirpate, Angel's Grace, Seht's Tiger, among other things, make victory very difficult. What I have seen is that cutting Mortal Combat might make this deck better. When I have had all the rats out, it generally wins that turn on old rats, or the next turn. I think putting Mortal Combat in the sideboard along with a toolbox of other useful spells might be the best build. At any rate, here is my current build:

Lets not forget any of the three magi from the Time spiral Block.
Lets not forget any of the three magi from the Time spiral Block.
Which Magi, exactly? There were 9 of them, If I recall correctly.
Also, Mortal Combat only really serves to confuse the plan of the deck, as you don't know whether you want to play out all your rats and attack or just Damnation into the graveyard. I prefer the attacking route myself, so I'd replace the Mortal Combats with Bad Moon to pump up all your rats.

the mortal combat would be strictly incase your OPPONENT wraths or screws your creatures in some way.

Uh, Bad Moon seems wholly unnecessary. Once you have five rats, their power and toughness become irrelevant anyway, really. I have now gone 3-4 with this list:
Isn't 18 rats a little light I mean you could possibly not come up with any in your first 4 cards.
Id prob go 25+ if it was me not to mention they are fine to draw in multiples.
No no, you only need to have enough in your deck that statistically every ripple hits a rat. Thats it, and I believe thats around the 16 or 17 mark. Anymore is win more.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
Running 4 copies of Beacon of Destruction gives you an alternate win condition also tutored by Brainspoil. Once all your rats have scurried out with a stone on the board, it could easily deal 20 damage straight up, and cycle back into your library in case you need to do it again.

Why did I ever think a signature in comic sans was a good idea?
It just seems like Main Deck Extirpate really really ruins your day. I didn't think persecute got reprinted in Xth.
Apparently it did not. This hurts quite a bit. Distress is back and is an alternative but I can't really run it as a one of like Persecute. I guess I would look at something like this then (Street Wraith nice but it often just helps your opponent beat you a turn before you go off. It also gives you an alternative after being Extirpated but is isn't a real alternative so I am okay cutting them):

The problem is that this deck is really black mana intensive and getting double red may be difficult. It also seems in this case Mortal Combat is just an easier way to victory. The fact is this deck does not allow much room for building. I attempted working in Watery Graves and Remands but couldn't really justify it.
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
i believe he meant the three white ones, they all really hurt the deck, though disk may be a litle slow
Ah, yes, you are a winner winner chicken dinner!!!! sorry, i ment to say in that post the three white magi, i know i was thinking it when i was typing. I guess my thoughts didn't translate into to type, sry about that.
Extirpate + Relentless Rats x20 + Mortal Combat
Let me know if i have this wrong.

Yeah I've been out of MTG too long it would seem, I'm un-learning everything.
Right sorry to waste people's time with this then. Just let the topic die i guess.
