Given how little we know about Ravnica, anything talking about the upcoming metagame is purely speculative... but I think there is some pretty sound logic behind my theory that a GWB deck will put up a strong showing. So check it out:
1. Green/Black and Green/White are 2 of the guilds in Rav. Therefore these 2 color combos are more likely to get good cards than, say, UR (since it doesnt appear until later in the block). We have already seen each guild get powerful creatures (BG Bug and GW Loxodon).
2. Green is already good in Kamigawa Block. Combine this with a powerful green element in Ravnica and it looks like green-based decks will have good footing at the rotation.
3. Green is the color of manafixing. STE and BOP will both be around in addition to Reach, Utopia Tree, and the myriad of manafixers sure to come in Ravnica (thought I doubt any will beat the combo of BOP and STE).
4. GWB has access to all the tools needed to become a good deck. It can play creature removal, artifact/enchantment removal, quality creatures, recursion (one of the BG guilds' themes), card draw, LD, acceleration and any number of other effects depending on what the metagame necesitates.
Hm... A) It's a bit too early to be calling this kind of thing
B) It's unlikely that a three-color combination is going to be the main event.
C) In my humble opinion, all of the guilds have a potentially nutz mechanic, meaning that any of them could skyrocket to the top on their own.
D) Chill out. We all know this is going to turn out like invasion, where there are a myriad of decks to play, most of which will just end up being retarded stacks of ridiculous threats and a few answers.

Yep. I addressed this at the beginning of my post, too, but given what we already know I don't think speculating on what will be good is out of the question

Why not? Manafixing will not be a problem at all in this T2.

Agreed. It is commonly believed that each guild will have a deck built around it (for obvious reasons) like mechanics in past blocks have. But expanding upon that, as far as 3-color decks go, GWB, BGU, and WRG all get 2 guilds, potentially each using 2 "nutz mechanics".

2 out of 4 guilds is a good deal, also the loxodon and the gb insect are great additions. Nad hopefully the GW enchantment. I think your might be right

I persoanally think a GBU deck is a possibility. We'll have to wait and see what comes out of Rav. but giving power boosts and Trample to the Hypnotic Spectre's and Dimir Cutpurses were sure to see on the scene would make them far more dangerous. Dimir Cutpurse + Unchecked Growth = 6/6 trample, draw a card and opponent discards, plus killing a blocker.

I'm old school, about as OLD school as they get. think 4th Edition/Ice Age old school. Unfortunatley in the "Real world" you cant Incinerate your bank manager and sadly now I have joined the ranks of the older population, and my time is taken up by things like reasearching Mortgage Refinance Rates and where to get the best possible mortgage quotes. I have however discovered the joys of Online Forex Trading which at least allows me to keep the bills in check!
Once the whole set is out, there is 3 guilds for GWB (or any 3 colour) deck, and 3 mechanics to play with.
It just remains to be seen, which triple colour combination will have the most broken interaction of the three (or two) mechanics.
Spells: 20
4x Wrath of God
4x Final Judgment/New Wrath Variant
4x Cranial Extraction
4x Naturalize/New Naturalize Variant
4x Kodama's Reach
+ Sideboard
I sincerely hope the metagame isn't filled with decks like that - that's so expensive. I'd add Sensei's Divining Top too - you have loads of shuffling effects as well as Dredge, by the way.
The thing is, I doubt standard will have decks like that - I mean, you're looking at $200 for the mana base. Most people just can't afford that. Two colour decks should show up, but I'm going to bet not many will go in for 3 colour, even if the decks are superior.
I think WR Weenie will be a real house. Isamaru, Savannah Lions, and Goblin Cohort give you a pile of ridiculous one-drops. The 1/2 Doublestriker, the Guildmage, and the 2/1 that taps to temporarily pacify a creature are all good two drops. Three drops are still being looked for, but they'll be there. The Flame-something Zealot makes for a decent four drop and finisher.

Why do you all think that a GWB deck would only be able to use 2 guild mechanics, for reference here are the guilds in ravnica:
GW
RW
GB
UB
we have already seen that the GW guild mechanic, convoke, is being put on mono-white, and mono-green cards like siege wurm. This should mean that we should be able to use white radiance cards, and black mutate cards. This particular 3 color combination can use all of the guild mechanics, but i dont see room for abuse of all of these mechanics in one deck, i am just saying it is possible. and once the block is complete any 3 color combination should be able to use 9, yes 9 of the 10 guild mechanics. the only mechanic a 3 color deck would not be able to abuse would be the one that is associated with both colors that are not in the deck.
I admit GWB could be a good deck once ravnica becomes legal, but so could just about any 3 color combination if built right, ravnica is quite obviously going to shake things up a bit, seeing as how it is a multicolor set, and has a much higher power level than the other sets in standard along with it.

a tri-colored deck will be extremely hard to run. i ran a tri-colored sliver deck once, it did not do well at all. Sure there may be more mana fixing avalible, but that still won't stop the probability of not getting what you want.
With Mortivore in 9th, I really REALLY want to break Dredge. There's already a lot of cards offering that trade, and milling a few extra critters to pump a huge regenerating lurghoyf can only mean victory. And the Stone Sisters or whatever they're called, those are just ridiculous.

From what I've seen everyone wants to play U/B Mill/Control. At first this is what I wanted to play too, but now that i think about it G/B is the shiznat. You want to mill me? Ok... MMM Zombified Sisters or Mortivore. The world ends... I just happened to trade for 3 Odessy Mortivores right before 9th reprinted them too :cool2:.

How can anyone claim to have a pair of testicles if they dont like Slayer?
The thing about two greens guilds is that you could run and entirely black/white mana base and gain the strength of green. Or the other way around.Remember they can be plaid with either of the two colors so B/W and you can use *** and CE and other great cards.

Sets in Progress:
Genesis Complete!!! 306/306
(Land centered mechanics Affinity for lands; Synergy with lands (Affinity for activated abilities)
(Extended-ish Power level) PM me if you are interested
Awakening ?/180: Features Domain, with more land comes more mastery over the elements. Channel and Growth are expanded making landcasting more interesting.
1. Putrefy (one of the best removal spells in years. Kills every targetable creature and the random Jitte, Needle, etc)
2. Plague Boiler (okay, its colorless... but its better in decks with GB)
3. Update on the Scarab confirming that it only needs 1 mana to sac/ draw the card (this card is insane. Depending on how strong the Dredge hosers are, this could be nigh-unstoppable)
4. Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree (hooray for hyphens... and alternate win conditions)
5. Carven Caryatid (Fat blocker that replaces itself)
Factor in what we already had from Ravnica - Loxodon Hierarch, "cheap white removal" (though this turned out not be as good as expected), BOP, Golgari Brownscale, Overgrown Tomb - and you've got some AWESOME raw material. And that's just in block...

I am amazed at how long it took for me to get that joke...
And no, I don't think that GWB will be god in T2. I think that with the reprint of Savannah Lions, WW will be the next big thing.

Lions was around in the last base set (in addition to heavy WW-pushing by WOTC in Mir and CKH) and WW wasn't that good...
