I for one love the flavor on Kamigawa block, it's so fresh and new. And I reckon I'll have a very, very good time come Block season. What's not to love about a format featuring a deck called White Weenie LEGENDS?
Here here Rick!
This particular rumor season has really made me reflect on just how much I enjoy Kami block, and I too am absolutley hyped for both the completed Saviors spoiler, and the impending Block season...
I've never had so many deck's committed to a block, and Legends have always had a special place in my heart, ever since I traded for my first gwendlyn di corci card! the theme's in block are secure, balanced, and above all, a refreshing change from where Magic had been heading in recent years.
It's great to hear from all of you on this Choice!!! (that's NZ for 'Cool') :grin2:
Mirrodin brought me back to Magic. Champions makes me want to go take my money and spend it a nudey bar instead. At least that way I'll get more bang for my buck and keep my little rod of brilliance satisfied for another few months.

I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.
Attack step ok, oh wait i would like to cryptic command. im sorry its too late to do that.
I think Wtoc might let a leaked card out here and there and give away some keywords like epic just to make ppl stir crazy i have onli seen one card out of the set and heard a bunch of rumors but i already preordered a booster box and im still gonna drop $80 on singles
Comparing Champions to Legends and we can see the similarities, and the differences. Legends had some of the most powerful cards in the game, and alot of chaff, the range in blanced cards is about as wide as it gets and the power is often what a set is remebered for. Champions and Betrayers, to an extent, have done what blocks before it were unable to do, and that is, condense the range of power in it's sets, there's no really horrible cards, and by the same token, there's nothing that screams out broken either. It's a fine balance, and one that R&D doesn't get enough credit in my opinion.
I'm eagerly awaiting Saviors, as I'm sure it will, at the very least, live up to my expectations as far as a set is concerned. I think alot of poeple expect too much, and while it's common to be optimistic, we should also be realistic when it comes to anticipation for a new set... Plus, I hear so many poeple whining about Saviors, when we only have one card... 1 card of 165, crazy!
~Hydro GOGO Saviors!
Yet another amen to this statement.
Mirrodin was one of the most boring sets for me because of how much totally overpowered stuff there was in it. The key deck came together instantly (Affinity) and nothing really could take it down due to the incredible synergy.
Kamigawa block is very balanced, and at a lower power level than Mirrodin was. Those of you looking for the end-all cards to top Mirrodin aren't going to find them. The set suffers the same way Mercadian Masques did in coming out right after an absolutely overpowered block. However, unlike Masques, the set plays incredibly well and has a lot of interesting mechanics that actually play well. I still love Champions for it's interesting cards that are actually fun to play with. Uyo, Silent Prophet stands out in my mind as an interesting card that just screams to have a deck built around it (which I have) as well as a ton of other random Legends from the set. I was disappointed in Betrayers not for its lack of power but for its lack of cool Legends to build random decks out of.
Personally, I can't wait to see if Saviors has the same kind of interesting cards that while aren't going to be the ultimate tournament card, will definitely create some of the coolest decks at the multiplayer table.
Also, let's remind people that if Ravinca keeps this power level, suddenly Kamigawa won't be underpowered in T2 because all of the cards will be at the same lower power level. Then the metagame will be a VERY different ball game, and all of those cards you dismissed as chaff in Kamigawa block will need a second look to see if they were simply being eclipsed by the power of Mirrodin block.
Balanced = boring. Overpowered, yes, can be boring, though it shakes the environment up after a stale age. Would you want to have balanced all the time? Probably not. AFter a while you'd want something that just takes things by the balls and throws them around the room merely to remove the boredom. Staleness means stagnation; overpowered-ness breaks barriers, enabling progress to move forward.
Mystic, Masques had a far greater effect on the game than most people let on. Rebels was THE deck to beat, followed by Fires (thanks to Saproling Burst), and a lot of the cards in it still see significant play. Look at how many cards from Masques on its own are close to being staples in the decks that fit that cards' function: Gush fits perfectly in Tog (and was restricted because of that), Land Grant for ten-land Stompy; Squee, Goblin Nabob in any deck that uses discard tricks; Rishadan Port was a four-of in any deck, regardless of what you were playing. A lot more from Masques see play, and I doubt that Kamigawa can match that.
Are there some interesting cards in Kamigawa? Yes, some. A lot of them are just reprints with higher mana costs and made arcane or transformed into spirit to fit the theme. Nothing new here folks! Mirrodin offered some unique takes on the game; it made artifacts more relevant to game play. Look at how it's affected ALL formats! What has kamigawa done to all formats? Not much really. Mirrodin, much like Saga, will have a lasting effect on the game for generations to come. And whether or not you like it, despite your *****ing you'll still be hording cards from Mirrodin because they make a better choice in a deck than most from Kamigawa will.
2-3 turn kills = boring, esp when everyone plays with the same dang deck. "tournament starts at 6, ends at 6:30, but only because someone brought a rogue deck."
Some people don't care for the interaction. Players who are in a tournament usually are there to win, not to mingle. IF you want to mingle, play casual magic. Simple as that.

didn't say i wanted to mingle... just saying that tournaments now are a heck of alot more fun now that 20 out of 23 kids aren't playing affinity. besides, when you walk into an FNM there is nothing worse that some humorless **** who takes the game WAY too seriously. really people, you're winning a couple of booster packs, not $15,000. it's a GAME.
People that play with 2-3 turn decks just take away from the game and make it no fun. That's why R&D bans and restricts cards. That's why Ravager got what it deserved.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
but yes.. i agree with you people.. there's no fun in a 2-3 turn kill..
i mean.. there's no strategy in that.. at least not an amazing one cause everywhere on the 'net you'll find decks like "yours/his/hers" (those kind of decks lack of authenticity.. hence i doubt they're original creations.. little tweaks but overall the same formula) and that's why i prefer casual over tournament.. at least there the amount of copycats/netdeckers is lower..
but.. on the other hand.. i'm glad that wotc every once in a while takes risks and releases cards like ravager and others.. they should do that more often..

I think assaulting another player should have a range of penalties. (A light slap is a game loss, a kick in the nuts is a DQ, ghetto-stomping someone is a Ban for Life.) There could be article all about it, like "when to mulligan"
I am one of those who started playing in 1993, stopped after Fallen Empires, then got back into when I read about MTGO (about 2.5 years ago). Kamigawa is my favorite block since I have been playing again (Invasion and on).
The morphs I just couldn't get into. The artifacts were fun at first, but now have landed themselves a block-wide ban in my home. Kamigawa block makes me feel like I'm playing Magic again.
Seriously, now, what's all this talk about 'panic' and 'freaking'. You panic when you house starts on fire. You freak when you daughter's boyfriend hits her. You shrug when you don't know a trading card before it gets released in stores.
by ravager i meant cards that go beyond the "if it's way too good.. let's remove it" check that wizards seems to make with every single card.. let's face it.. you even hear from wotc staff comments like "but the original version had..." with some cards that in the end were totally useless... so i'm glad they do so every now and then.. avatar of serra.. and others.. obviously they'll become overpriced.. proof that good unedited things by R&D are expensive not exactly due their abilities.. but because of the fact that they happen seldomly..
and if you still need an example.. look at mogg fanatic.. and frostling.. the fanatic isn't exactly a 20 dollar bill.. won't say anything else..

Got it all backwards. You freak when your daughter brings her boyfriend home. Boyfriend panics when you threaten to burn his house down if he hits her. You shrug and plead insanity during the investigation afterwards.
