We're getting more of the Seven Steel Thanes outside of Geth and Sheoldred. Let's see how they match up to Sheoldred and see if she can be thrown off her precarious role as leader of the black Phyrexians. First up, the vampire thane Vraan.
. . . no wonder he's not the leader. Once-a-turn drain 2 Blood Artist-style is serviceable, but not all that powerful.
ok I am putting my foot down with this whole “once per turn” thing and they just proved they’ll never get this right
Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim does the same thing but only one life…however she’s not once per turn and only a uncommon. And even in the same mana value
Yeah. Doesn't feel like a rare or a legendary at all. I still think that once per turn can be a good thing but they need to valuate the effect differently than. Nykthos Paragon is an example where I think is done right.
Vraan works great if you want do sacrifice just one creature a turn I guess. There is just so much iteration of this kind of effect and possibilities to generate multiple potential sacrifices each turn that he doesn't feel right. Maybe he should have a "tab and sacrifice another creature" ability on top of that.
I wonder if he got the Emmara Tandris treatment, meaning his card got swapped with another unrelated rare very late in development.
His card doesn't even fit an assassin/executioner (he and his minions work as assassins). He doesn't kill anything and his ability triggers off of his own creatures dying. An assassin who gets his own people killed is absolutely terrible at his job.
