Well whatever the reason these proxy’s are probably gonna flop Similarly to double feature and The first kamigawa visit (redeemed in the second)
If only, but I'm 100% sure this will sell out, likely because it will be under printed and the various whales/leviathans and "collectors" will snatch them up to add it to their hoard- I mean collections.
Grifters of the Coast will sell every single pack they produce since it is a limited print product. Then the sleazy YouTuber unpersonalities will open them for clicks (money) online getting everyone excited about pulling a Lotus or Power 9, blah blah blah. Dingbats with more money than brains will then pay through the teeth for singles on the secondary market. GotC tools up for the next round of insulting whalebait nonsense next Quarter to please the investors of Hasblow.
Only thing a player can do..... Don't buy it. Don't click on openings of it online. Don't buy them as singles on the secondary market. Refuse to play against anyone using them as proxies and let them know why. Refuse to play at an LGS that allows GotC proxies to be played and let them know why.
Draconian, yes. The only other options are to sit idly by and take it or quit the game until they reverse course.

The whales that have spoken out would all rather just spend that amount of money on actual RL cards. But I do agree that a bunch of youtube "try-hards" will buy and crack this for click-bait. I do believe however, that there is a marginal chance that this product will not sell well at all. That the people with money would rather buy originals and everyone else will just not be able to afford it, nor want to. So then who is this for? A non existent demographic? Post Malone? Just one possibility. If we could only hope.
@WarMachinePrime your suggestion of boycotting stores that allow people to play these and refusing to play with people who use them will do nothing to change anyone's outlook and make you come across as an immature jerk. This action does not punish WOTC in any way, it just alienates you from people who disagree with your stance on a luxury toy. It's the Walking Dead thing all over again. So what if WOTC sells some overpriced collector's item that will have almost zero bearing in the average game of Magic. At the end of the day all you all are really complaining about are some extra copies of proxy dual lands out in the wild.
What exactly are we "sitting idly by and taking"? You're mad about a consumer product that you don't need and isn't marketed towards you? I'd be more upset about the price increases of basic draft and set boxes.
There's been a rumor flying around at least from Purp / The Magic Historian that the EDH Rules Committee is planning on banning the use of these proxies for EDH / Commander though strangely enough they haven't updated this on their official website so it's safe to assume that this is being talked about on private Facebook groups and discord servers. Knowing Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro they'll most likely do a repeat of this in the next anniversary product by going after the Four Horsemen sets with Arabian Nights, Legends, Antiquities, and The Dark. If anything they're shooting themselves in the foot with these proxies for $1,000+ cause why release a product that HIGH for only 1 or 2% of the overall player base?
If these proxies aren't even legal for EDH / Commander according to the EDH Rules Committee then why bother? They aren't tournament legal anyhow. The game's already expensive enough to the point where most players are printing out their own proxies of Reserve List cards instead of paying a premium to acquire something close to the original that's really just a waste of money honestly. If your playgroup knows that you don't have the money to shell for the original cards that's okay which is why Rule 0 in EDH / Commander is a thing. Sadly Magic reprints nowadays aren't really able to keep up with consumer demand as much as they did before EDH / Commander was conceived as a format when the demand was really low back then.

What does this mean? Proxies aren't currently allowed so how would they go about banning them?
gold bordered collectors-edition cards...are intended for display purposes, not for use in games.

Proxies are not allowed in official tournaments but EDH however doesn't really have official tournaments, that I know of, and are instead much more casual with people just having fun. So it tends to be house rules whenever an LGS has a EDH night. My experience with my LGSs is an ask don't tell policy so long as you aren't being obvious about it and/or you are spending money in the store. AKA don't be the jerk running a power nine turn one win deck.
Mind you, always ask in advance what the rules are when prizes are involved as those can have a no proxy ruling or have a hard limit to how much your deck can be proxies.

The only reason why there's a market for Gold Bordered Collector's Edition cards is because people actually play them in EDH / Commander. That's why getting a gold bordered Force of Will and Yawgmoth's Will was much cheaper to get a hold of compared to their original printings which are valued much higher. Yes they technically are used for display purposes but the reality is that these cards do actually see play in EDH / Commander and as far as I recall there was also a gold bordered Gaea's Cradle that saw play in the format as well. Do I condone using gold bordered cards in EDH / Commander decks? That entirely depends on your playgroup.

I don't question that people use them. The same I don't doubt that people use cheaper proxies when they want. My question was how can they ban something that isn't legal? Proxies of any kind are currently disallowed so how could they be more disallowed?

I'm not sure how the EDH Rules Committee could get away with something like that when it's probably meant to calm players down whenever Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro does something they've never done before that always seems to upset the majority of the player base. Maybe If they scaled back more on releasing so much product to give their customers enough time to catch up then there would be less people complaining about wallet fatigue which the bean counters at Hasbro corporate automatically dismiss.

The best thing you can do is create high quality proxies yourself, or source them from somewhere else, and dismiss anyone who uses these 'official' proxies (what a load of BS that phrase is) as using fake cards, while secretly using your own.

"How" is not a correct question. They are not legal and any "banning" cannot take place. The fact that comments referring to any "banning" appear is just overinterpretation of internet "personalities" statements by people who don't pause to think before throwing opinions into depths of internets due to emotional impact of this product.
As you said those are not legal in any format. This is the whole thing with RL - cards cannot be reprinted in form playable in any format. Everything else is just cardboard. Those are equally useful as any random card with sharpie scribbles on it issued by TO. I have yet to find a person who would disallow usage of proxies in nonsanctioned event. Some people (including me) have issues with readability of some proxies but this is always easily fixable. I see no problem if someone wants to use this product as proxies, but I would still clearly state my opinion of this product and try to convince that person to not use them. I do not want to gatekeep anyone from playing this game no matter how stupid/irresponsible their fiscal policy is.

No, it is called having principles and integrity. Its sticking up for yourself and your buddies who are the little guys. And it will hurt GotC in the long run if enough people act accordingly.
And no its not that I'm mad about a luxury product. It is that there is no corresponding basic product to go along with it. There should be 5 to 10 dollar packs of proxy boosters as well. What if you went to buy a new car and the only models offered were million dollar Bugattis and Rolls Royces? What if you went to a fast food restaurant and the only thing on the menu was $1000 three course 5 star meals? Who got Grifters to this point huh? I am fine with luxury product. But claiming to celebrate 30 years of the game while locking out 95% of your customer base is insulting and money grubbing, period! Nope let the whales lord it over everyone else and then wave it in your face on YouBube openings. No thank you!!!

Alright I’m gonna alienate every person who uses proxies then, since it’s about principle and integrity. Can’t let nobody spend money how they want except by buying the real thing.
What if you went to buy a new car and the only models offered were million dollar Bugattis and Rolls Royces?
That would indeed be a shame and probably bad business practise for a card game, because then only a fraction of players can afford their product.
I got good news for you though: There are still normal boosters to buy. Rumor has it there will soon be a new set called Brother's War and scuttlebug says the boosters don't cost 1000 bucks.
Your metaphor is kind of self-defeating: If you want to have a bugatti, you gotta pay the price. And if you want to have a chance to open an (unplayable???) power nine, you gotta pay the price.
Like as I said before, this product is dumb in almost every way, but it is a far cry from destroying Magic. You act like it's a slippery slope. "Oh noes, now that wizards knows that there is a tiny fraction of people out there who buy this product, they'll make all products this expensive???" That's not how any of this works. Just ignore the product and laugh at the suckers buying randomized proxies for 1000 bucks.
Oh good lord, just don't buy the things, don't take it out on players or your LGS. In a situation where proxies are accepted, why sweat about where they came from?
This is much more a Gucci Brick situation than a real product accessibility concern.
No, it is called having principles and integrity. Its sticking up for yourself and your buddies who are the little guys. And it will hurt GotC in the long run if enough people act accordingly.
Principled does not equal justified, and claiming to speak for a majority does not mean you are doing so.
And no its not that I'm mad about a luxury product. It is that there is no corresponding basic product to go along with it.
That's the very definition of a luxury item.

Well, all fantasies being equal I'd say a world where Bugatti's are the vehicle standard and gourmet food are the McDonald's equivalence had undergone some form of post-scarcity transformation that would completely destroy our concepts of economic equivalence and make the comparison moot. What if up was green and candy tasted of penitence?
Who got Grifters to this point huh? It wasn't the whales, investors and youtube dunderheads. It was me and you. You dance with the partner who brought you to the dance.
Again, assuming you speak for a majority, while attempting to lionize your individual contributions.

Ok so both of you agree that it is a bad product. So can't we all agree that it is also on the side of disrespectful to the community and we should be calling WOTC out on it in a civilized fashion?
Some of us just want to play the game and some us want to collect/invest in pieces that hold meaning. This product spits in the faces of both groups. Yet it will succeed because it is a small printing and there are plenty of idiots out there with more money than braincells, thus meaning WOTC will keep going down a path of increasing prices, artificial scarcity, and product fatigue.
Right now is the time where we should be talking about what we should do for the best of the community because Hasbro/WOTC only see us as a piggy bank. And honestly I do agree with you that one of the key moves is not to buy this crap even if we could afford it, and possibly had a phobia of money.
What can we advise each other and new players to the game to do so that they are not squeezed dry by current WOTC and secondary market, but still enjoy that game as much as possible?

It's called "fiscal responsibility & self-control". The idea is that you spend within your means, are happy with what you have, and strive to improve your position if you want more.

Depends on the price they paid I guess. I would like to have one (technically two, since two border printings) card from this set since I collect all its printings but I can give 5$ tops for it. I would not blame others for spending a few bucks on good looking proxies, but this will not be the case.
By the way, are there official information about card distribution in those packs? It cannot be the same since this is not a full set.

They've said each pack contains 1 rare, 3 uncommon, 7 common and 2 basics in the modern frame and 1 basic and 1 other card in the old frame, with the "other card" being rare 30% of the time. Dual lands appear twice as frequently as other rares in both slots. Sol Ring is at common and uncommon, but the common version has the art zoomed in. Source.
Yes, there are 3 basics in the proxy packs. Granted, there are also only about a dozen good commons and none are worth proxying anyway.

Just to add on to your information, the lads on reddit did the math and estimated that the packs had around a 50-52 percent chance to contents worth around $10 if valued same as the collector's edition from way back, which in reality they would be lower.
Honestly I hope this doesn't get released around the holidays, last thing anyone needs is a grand parent buying this crap thinking they got their loved one something special.

It wasn't the whales, investors and youtube dunderheads. It was me and you. You dance with the partner who brought you to the dance.
I am fine with luxury product. But claiming to celebrate 30 years of the game while locking out 95% of your customer base is insulting and money grubbing, period! Give that 13 year old a the feeling of opening a pack and pulling a Power 9 just the same as a 43 year old did 30 years ago. Nope let the whales lord it over everyone else and then wave it in your face on YouBube openings. No thank you!!!
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
This is much more a Gucci Brick situation than a real product accessibility concern.
Principled does not equal justified, and claiming to speak for a majority does not mean you are doing so.
Again, assuming you speak for a majority, while attempting to lionize your individual contributions.
It doesn't sound like you are.
They are celebrating 30 years of the game in multiple ways, this is just a facet you've chosen to latch onto so you can grief. You are voluntarily downtrodden.
Heroquest is dope
The idea is that you spend within your means, are happy with what you have, and strive to improve your position if you want more.
anyone who purchases this particular product in any way deserves ridicule, but proxies themselves do not. I do think the right take here is to laugh at anyone who plays these "official fake cards" while tapping your own very unofficial fake cards.
