I know that it's probably not likely to happen but what's the likelihood that WotC will pull some kinda rug and claim that the packs were actually $99.99 not $999; that "someone got the MSRP wrong"? Have they ever made revocations due to negative publicity like that before? I mean, I know that they did that for the Walking Dead and Universes Within (though they have yet to deliver on that promise) would it be possible for them to try to roll back a decision that is so unanimously panned?
By the way, are there official information about card distribution in those packs? It cannot be the same since this is not a full set.
They've said each pack contains 1 rare, 3 uncommon, 7 common and 2 basics in the modern frame and 1 basic and 1 other card in the old frame, with the "other card" being rare 30% of the time. Dual lands appear twice as frequently as other rares in both slots. Sol Ring is at common and uncommon, but the common version has the art zoomed in. Source.
Yes, there are 3 basics in the proxy packs. Granted, there are also only about a dozen good commons and none are worth proxying anyway.
Just to add on to your information, the lads on reddit did the math and estimated that the packs had around a 50-52 percent chance to contents worth around $10 if valued same as the collector's edition from way back, which in reality they would be lower.
Honestly I hope this doesn't get released around the holidays, last thing anyone needs is a grand parent buying this crap thinking they got their loved one something special.
thanks. this was on the video that i refuse to watch i think. it might cost me if i punch my monitor in anger.
We also intend to gift—completely free of charge—one display of 30th Anniversary Edition to all WPN stores, and three copies to all Premium WPN stories.
So how many of those stores are going to charge MORE than 999.00 for this product? You know the unscrupulous ones will for sure. A healthy LGS would break them up and give them out as prize support. I would ask your LGS if they are a WPN store and what they intend to do with their kickback, err grift, uh I mean gift.

After watching Tolarian Community College's most recent video in regards to this topic, would Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro legally be able to sell this product for WAY less than it's ridiculous price tag of $1,000 knowing full well that they are "official" proxies of Reserve List cards? In other words they're not breaking their promise with the Reserve List while at the same time keeping their promise in a way that doesn't upset MTG Finance thinking they lost money on cards they've collected over the years. Why do these proxies have any value unless there's a reason why Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro is charging as much as they are for them?
Aren't they publicly acknowledging the Secondary Market with this 30th Anniversary price tag? Or rather what would be the definition of Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro publicly acknowledging the Secondary Market of Paper Magic to the point where it would be against the law? They have a company big enough to where their own attorneys and prosecutors can stop any federal court case from going into full affect. At what point is Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro not able to get away with something that for the most part is considered immoral when it should be against the law? Does "Too Big to Fail" also apply with this company?

I'm okay with Prof's box game videos, as I like to watching him prove that opening packs isn't the lottery ticket many whales like to claim it is, but that's because it serves a purpose of his "buy singles" mentality.
I agree with your idea of not watching any 30th pack opening videos.
It's hard to say if the 'unboxing bros' can even make money opening this product, but if they do they are probably making way more money doing it than anticipated.
The Professor's video covered this topic quite well and reflects my viewpoint about it. Appears to be a product of exclusion to me, which is strange for one claiming to be a celebratory release for the 30th anniversary. Oh well.

That's just salesman talk, they are trying to sell this like a good thing, but no matter how many pretty words they use to describe this they can't stop the fact that this product and its goal are more transparent than air. This isn't a celebration for the player base, but instead just another scam to make a quick buck of those with a fat wallet and a poor idea of what a good deal is.
If anything this should be the 3rd anniversary of when they started pushing products on players. It's absolutely an anniversary to see what they could sell and which "intelligent" people would buy it.

Let's be frank, Yt channels are not charity. Same as wotc they are supposed to make money. If there will be more money in opening those pack they will open them, if there will be more money in being known to not open them they will not. The difference is that yt channels base on community support and have long term goals of cultivating this community (to make money from sponsors and ads) instead of quick cash grab that a lot of the product is at the moment.
It's terminal stage capitalism but that's the best we can have right now. :/
That aside, Hasbro recently released their 3rd Quarter Financial Earnings Report and it's not looking too good for Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro and Magic: The Gathering. The big wigs at Hasbro even straight up told their customers had become "Price Sensitive". Forget about the fact that the U.S. currently has the highest market inflation rate since the Carter Administration which has caused the overall price of Paper Magic to skyrocket to where it's no longer affordable. At least "reasonably" affordable anyway. Oh but don't worry Standard and Modern are fine. Everyone is playing EDH / Commander so why should they care? Right?

Love how it's the consumer's fault and not theirs. Great way to avoid correcting their issues. First step is to avert any responsibility, next is to continue with such delusions right into oblivion. Remarkable how the most incompetent rise to positions of authority and undermine the experience for everyone. Tale as old as time I'm sure - sociopaths succeed at the expense of those with actual merit. I'm certain loss of consumer confidence was the furthest factor from being applicable here - no doubt.
If anything this is a HUGE wake up call for anyone whose put stocks on Hasbro which is down by 30% as in billions of dollars of losses. About three quarters of Hasbro's money comes directly from Wizards of the Coast where they have a bunch of debt and acquisitions they're doing NOTHING with, they're making no money, and the people there are incapable of doing their jobs. Paper Magic sales actually went down due to timing of new releases. Hasbro has one-third of a billion dollars in inventory just sitting there in which they haven't sold off. You don't sit on an additional $300 million which was 40% in additional inventory year to year and NOT have a problem when the problem is that they can't sell their products.
They have burned almost all of their cash just to leave their inventory sitting there. So explain to me how Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro's Goodwill went up when they're just fudging numbers to make themselves look like they didn't do anything wrong? If a publicly traded company like Hasbro is getting private equity borrowing or borrowing from banks then that's a red flag right there. Look at it this way, If Standard was healthy then Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro wouldn't have to put out so many Secret Lairs and thousand dollar sets to upset the MTG community cause the money in active players would already be there If there's nothing for new players to join the game with because Standard is too overpowered, convoluted, and aggravating.
There's nothing to sell because you don't sell Kitchen Table Casual bulk (EDH / Commander). If somebody picks up the game and does that you make zero dollars. For the products they actually sell Modern is not very approachable, EDH / Commander is VERY not approachable to new players, and with Standard you'd be embarrassed to show somebody Magic: The Gathering and teach them Paper Standard, bring them to an FNM, and get them to understand what's going on there. In other words Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro basically lost a billion dollars choosing not to ban multiple cards in competitive formats where they needed to ban three to four or five cards per Quarter then rotate twice a year or they needed to do a giant ban sweep.
Oh so you banned Yorion, Sky Nomad in Modern for accessibility concerns but ONLY banned The Meathook Massacre in Standard? This is a company that's lost talented people while underpaying contractors and made them leave. If you care about the monetary value of your Paper Magic Singles (excluding Reserve List Singles) then NOW is the time to sell. Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro competing directly with Local Game Stores (LGSs) on Amazon may have made themselves look good financially but to all those Local Game Stores (LGSs) they put out of business as an end result the damage was already done especially with the poor timing of the COVID-19 Pandemic being the one-two gut punch. Yeah.
They release Standard Set after Standard Set. They've done that to drive away the actual LGSs they competed with, angered them, ripped them off, promised them product but never sent it, shorted stuff, had asynchronous releases between countries you name it. So actually being able to play Magic: The Gathering In-Person at Local Game Stores (LGSs) are a staple of having a physical place to play In-Person because If you don't have a physical place to play that's not structured then you're either on Arena with a down tick in active users, and their new format Alchemy was a complete failure. So without Arena to play Standard and without LGSs to play Standard for FNM then why play Standard? They're basically selling power creeped cards to EDH.

Standard (or any other format) would be better if they would also RESTRICT cards as well as ban certain cards. Some cards could be restricted to ONE copy. This would effectively ban it but potentially keep it around.
It would also serve to lower their stupidly inflated prices in paper as well.
