So just like in domnaria 2018 visist (after ixalan) its gonna be legendries matter set
so its easy to expect historic and probably sagas are gonna be here. (by probably i mean if kamigawa prevents it from happening)
And remember they teased this set is when we finally end toe dipping teasers on the phyrexian multiverse war 2 and get started on it so one or more of the legend(s) might be phyrexians (one will probably be sheoldred/thane)
Wow, since when is a box $158?
I see boxes of New Capenna on amazon for $110

Alright, I guess it makes sense based on the initial promo blurb about it.

But what I REALLY hope happens is either they make each card in the retro frame or the showcase at least. That would be a great way to commemorate the 30th anniversary with its original aesthetic.

11% increase passed along to the retailers and factor in another 11% as the retailer passes it along to the end user/buyer. So figure a 22% increase plus whatever early pre-sellers want to tack on PLUS a box topper and there is your price. It will come down but I would guess these will be more like $130 on average.
Welcome to inflation.
As for the Legendaries, sounds good just like last go around. More uncommon Legendary is a good thing in my book. One of them is going to be a chase uncommon you can be sure of as well.

I wish "a legendary in every pack" was an actual selling point, like with Dominaria, but we've had so many sets with so many legendaries that opening one in every pack is practically expected at this point.
Wow, since when is a box $158?

Well you see WotC is making the most money it ever has so they thought it would be a good opportunity to make some more money under the guise of inflation. (Yes, inflation exists, but I don't want to hear a company making record profits say it needs to charge more.)
everyone who falls for the "inflation" reason should not be allowed to purchase anything
while it is true that paper prices have risen during the corona times, they did not went up by that much. also they are still cheap compared to what wizards asks for. if booster were like 2 - 2,5$ (customer price) i would say 10% is reasonable. but not like this. we have booster prices ranging from 4$-75$ nowadays... dont give me that inflation BS (sorry for the language) when every booster has nearly the same amount of cards.
printing paper and selling it, is still profitable even under the current inflation circumstances. wizards just choses to charge more. and remember, we had a price increase already not to long ago.
WotC operates on a 40% profit margin, which is EXTREMELY high for a trading card game (compared to YuGiOh and Pokemon, for even smaller ones its most likely a lot lower).
So any arguments of "costs" is completely void and meaningless, they already ask for way too much money.
Cards could be 1/3 cheaper and WotC would still make bank.

I agree with you for the most part on the greed aspect, but inflation is real and ALL businesses respond to it. Greed (making as much money as possible) drives most of their decisions but when the cost of EVERYTHING is going up to plan, produce and ship a product that cost gets passed along to consumers. To deny that is naive and foolish.
With that said, WotC could hold the line as their margins are still pretty damned good. But pressure from the board and shareholders is going to lead to increased prices right along with inflation to wring every last dime out of the consumer. Again what they don't seem to understand is that Magic is a LUXURY item. Those are the first to be trimmed and the first to be dropped in a consumers budget. Charge more because you are making less, then charge more as you sell less and the spiral continues. They really should be thinking long term by holding prices or even dropping them a bit. Sure margins may go from 40% to less than 10% in the process, but you still keep the cash flow and you set yourself up for players hanging around for the long run.
9.1% inflation year over year ladies and gentlemen (here in the USA). Announced today. It is real and it drives these decisions. Worst in over 40 years and YES I saw it happen 40 years ago with my own eyes and what it did to my family at the time. Unfortunate for sure but there is ZERO denying it exists and drives decisions.

It may seem meaningless to me and you. But it is real unfortunately and is the exact opposite of being "void" it is VALID. I agree they already ask too much for their product. I think they could trim margins by lowering prices. I agree. But the board and shareholders don't see it that way. They want to keep the gravy train rolling so when costs go up AND COSTS ARE GOING UP, they will pass that along to the consumer to keep those high margins. This is inflation, it happens everywhere and it spirals out of control until checked. Who or what provides that check is yet to be seen. So again, I'm with you on the margins. They could indeed tighten their belts and ride this out, but the pressure from shareholders and the board is overiding that from occuring.

One last dirty little secret that will be uncomfortable for a lot on the site to hear.
Part of the blame resides with US. Me and you and every other player and end user/consumer out there.
When people pay $80 USD a pack for collectors packs (or more). You incentivize Hasbro/WotC to continue to do it and even more so. They say, "hey these rubes will pay 80 to 100 dollars for a pack of 15 cardboard pieces. Why do we charge 4 bucks for a pack of the same 15 pieces of cardboard?"
We can have some say in the matter. DONT BUY OVERPRICED PRODUCTS!!! When enough people figure that out things may begin to change. But until that point Hasbro isn't suddenly going to pull a 180 from their current "squeeze the pigeons for as much money as we can" mentality.
I haven't bought a single sealed product of 2XM. And I will not. I am a drop in the ocean but it is what I can control. I have bought a few singles but even in that way I am still feeding the machine. So I myself am weak in that aspect. But the truth of the matter is some of the blame and some of the answer lies with us.
As for Dominaria United. If I can get a draft or set booster box between the 120 to 135 USD range I will buy it. I haven't bought a box since Midnight Hunt and this is after a string of box purchases for Forgotten Realms, Kaldheim, Zendikar, Theros Beyond Death, Ikoria, War of the Spark, Modern Horizons 2 and Core 2021.
