The Streets of New Capenna debut show will officially kick off spoiler season in around half an hour after this thread is made. This post will be updated during and after the show to present all the cards previewed during the show.
Would be way more useful as a colorless artifact, as the theme works well in any token deck, regardless of color.
Making it white is severely limiting in what decks this can go ... so not a fan of doing that.
----
The use of counters for abilities is really annoying, they did it with ability counters and it just gets more awful to play with the more they make.
As the "shield" counter is just a 1 time "indestructible" ... as you cant choose to use it, and it happens against all damage, even just 1, thats kinda awful as its so bad against being jump-blocked.
Its already annoying to have +1/+1 counters and loyality counters on your creatures.
But if you have multiple different counters, you need different colored dice or "token" counters or whatever, its just awful to play with that in paper magic and even in MTG Arena you have to check what kind of ability creatures have or not if it gets out of hand on a big board ...
So thats also terrible.
----
Blitz seems to be a weird mechanic, as it adds the "draw a card" on each creature, and having haste automatically, can come in handy to have cantrip creatures.
Casualty with a specific number is also weird, as in almost any case, you would use a 1/1 token as a constant flow of sacrifices, but with anything higher than 1, you cant really do that, so you would need to sacrifice creatures that are not just worthless 1/1, which might be way too high of a cost to pay for what you get (especially as the mechanic wants you to play creatures and spells at the same time, thats also not a great plan to have in the first place).
----
The Esper color to be not in any way artifact related kinda hurts the color theme, as you cant really mix the mechanics of former Esper colors with that theme of "connives" , with the draw/discard it seems to work overall better with mechanics like Delve / Dredge and graveyard mechanics, which feel more in place in a green/black/blue color theme, and not white at all.
----
Some interesting cards, but feels way too forced into a "creature" theme in all colors, and the pay-off for almost any of these cards is just too costly and too weak for what you get.
Urabrask is...interesting? I mean if your opponent can't cast the spells then that's a red mill to some extent. But how is that helping you? Doesn't seem like it models the same way as Vorinclex and Jin Gitaxias.
Maybe it's a flavour thing. You know, because Urabrask is all about freedom...

I think that the mana costs for casting and activate the effects would have been higher if the fountain would have been colorless. And in addition is an Halo fountain. I assume is full of Halo which is Angel Essence or Juice or I don't know how to call it.

You don't lose your draw to the exile, so its getting two cards since you get your normal draw and you get the exile to draw.

Ah okay, I didn't look at it that way. It makes sense now.

Well if you read Urabrask, he essentially gives you an extra red impulse draw per turn and turns your opponents FIRST draw each of their turns into a red impulse draw. That means that for all intents and purposes, they don't draw thay card for anything that would care about drawing cards. You also get to see pretty much what they draw each turn so unless they have extra card draw, nothing is secret. It kills counterspells since you can't save them to cast on an opponents turn. It's actually more brutal than people are giving credit for. I'm excited for this.
Looking forward to the Treasure Cruise of Casualty. Incredibly good synergy for blue red here, since you can blitz in for cheap and then do a spell and get a card back for copying the spell.
Shield counters I bet is the mechanic they've been trying to fit into sets. I think I've seen a hundred variations on player designed stuff because it just makes sense.
Love that elspeth and I'm so glad urabrask still has haste. Gonna put him in as a curve topper as soon as goldspan dragon rotates out.
Gala Greeters is gonna be a staple. Slots right in where innkeeper is at in decks running innkeeper, even if you only get to trigger it 3 times a turn.
Halo fountain should have brought back the untap symbol
I think Halo fountain could have been modified for the first 2 abilities to any tapped creatures. It gives white a political card in multiplayer formats like EDH and wouldn't have any effect on standard. Its noteworthy that it doesn't target the creatures to untap, but I may be reading into it too much.

We haven't seen Dominaria United yet, but makes you wonder what the meta will be like once rotation occurs.
I think a lot of ppl will be happy to see snow and goldspan and manlands go away...

I still think it's weird how little innistrad's two sets actually impacted the meta. I played a bunch of monogreen all the way through that and added approximately zero new cards (okay the kicker wolf guy was good) and ran into like a dozen alrund's decks.
Man, that Halo Fountain is a fascinating play. Feels like it's got some real utility. Put down some sort of creature with a tap ability, or something that can swing in without dying, and then for a single white mana, you get two blockers on the crackback.
This feels like it's going to be the backbone of some really gross decks.
Good thing Artifact removal is still fairly common.

Also love that card, great abilities and more card draw for white, we can't get too much of that! The 3rd ability is almost impossible to pull off, but if you ever do, that will be a game to remember...

and the God tier cards is the mana dudes and that make creatures tap for mana and that’s Earthcraft, Citanul Hierophants, [card]Esika, God of the Tree
[/card], Song of Freyalise, Cryptolith Rite and my favorite Slivers (especially slivers since they will get to 15 creatures in a hurry)

have you not seen white card (some multicolored)
...
and the God tier cards ...
Sure but if you can get 15 creatures out and get them tapped you should be winning that turn in like 99% of situations anyway. Like 15 creatures tapped and attacking with a craterhoof, or tapping for mana and casting something huge, etc. I think it is a nice piece of sometimes-relevant but mostly trinket text, the rest of the card is good enough white card draw and creature generation anyway.
could they have used "shield" as a keyword action to replace "regenerate"?
e.g. Shield target creature (it gets a shield counter...blah blah).
Maybe in this set an instant-speed shield token card will take place of the instant combat tricks that give a creature temporary indestructible. Probably not for black because the mechanic isn't in one of the black shards, but I would expect to see a white instant that gives a shield.

No, it's an uba mask for your opponent but an extra (uba-maski-ified) card a turn for you.

Lots of birds in suits on this plane. It kind of accentuates how their wings are "glued on" in most artworks.
Yes, I would love to turn creatures into cheaper draw spells that pump up my dragon.
