They're really letting just anybody be a planeswalker now.
I think in these circumstances it has more to do with the character than the actual ability to planeswalk.
Also, I am SUPER pumped for this set. Elder Brain looks cool as all hell and I cannot wait to make a deck with that bad boy in it. Also, a Mind Flayer Commander deck? sign me up!
Minsc and boo 2: so we sacrifce White to make it a Fling matters deck pretty cool
Brass dragon: Firstly Looks like Elder tribal will become possible since its now possible on non legendary creatures second if the ur-dragon wasn't expensive enough.
Elder brain: that the fastest instant staple upgrade for a very young legendary to date its Isshin, Two Heavens as One for this case but to go absolutely dirty or nasty its plane and simple...
Wand of Wonders: That's unquestionably Chaos Wand on steroids
Ally Bond lands: THANK HEAVENS DUDE I SCREWED UP BIG TIME NOT GETTING THESE WHILE BATTLEBOND WAS BEING PRINTED!
Reflecting pool: Seriously wizard what was so hard on reprinting this? it hasn't been reprinted since conspiracy 1 this should have been printed eons beyond eons ago!
Fireball: lets see what mana producing stuff gets added to do this because we would slap them silly if they put channel in just because of the ultima combo (we would hate it due to being banned in commander)
Lightning bolt: WHOOOOOA! i haven't seen that reprinted in common in years so this might be a blessing for eternal players alike especially for that rulebook art.
Yeah they talked on this with the first DnD set, for crossover walkers it will go by rule of cool and/or if they find a planeswalker card design that works better than a creature card than if the character fits as walker lore-wise.

That's just plain stupid. Way to water down any significance to the key differentiator of your game world. I mean, what was the point of the war of the spark if any half wit can become a Planeswalker?
Dungeons and Dragons also has its own planes, and moving between them has been a thing since first edition. If we saw a character walking through a portal from the material plane to the plane of elemental fire, I'd be down. Or some wizard on a voyage through the astral plane. Planetars, Devas, and demon princes walk the planes with impunity, and so do gods. But some fighter who already got a card?
I don't like the idea of "rule of cool" from the outset. It seems like an excuse to play fast and loose just to promote characters you expect to be popular. I feel like even in crossover sets, a planeswalker should be someone who travels between worlds. That's not actually impossible to find in crossover stuff. But Wizards disagrees with me, and I'll accept that.

Crossover cards aren't canon to magic lore so have no real effect what so ever. Really effects nothing.

The point of War of the Spark was to make a planeswalkers-matter draft set to simulate the war on Ravnica. What are you talking about?

I'm talking about the story line. Bolas struggle to become a full walker again. Made it seem that Planeswalkers are rare special unique. Now Joe the garbage guy can be one.

That's D&D cosmology for you: one relatively high-level spell allows you to jump from one plane to another. Theoretically, any long-lived being can learn how to cross dimensions without needing a Spelljammer ship.
Looks like Party will be making an appearance again w/ a specialty deck hopefully based around it. I’d really like to see Level Up come back in some form.

Yes. That's how D&D works. Got a high level spellcaster buddy and some wanderlust? Congratulations, you're a planeswalker. Planeswalkers *aren't* that special in D&D compared to MtG. I don't know much lore specific to D&D video games, but Minsc has gotta know at least one epic level wizard. Mordenkainen? Elminster? That's all it takes here.
Please, mill me. Mill my important cards. Mill my lands. Mill it all. Because I will still deal 20 damage before you can mill 45 cards most every time.
I really hope the token's creature type IS gerbil... I want to make gerbil tribal as a Commander deck... and put in as many cards with tubes I can find!!! Then a Gruul Commander that looks remotely like Richard Gere... and if there is none, pay someone to make an alt. art depiction of Richard Gere for whatever legendary creature I choose as my Commander!!!
What's that you say? Boo is a hamster, not a gerbil?!?!?! Well kiss my grits! I's gonna do it anyway... closest thing so far...
Yeah, that so? Well, THIS square peg is going to be FORCED into THAT round hole... like the gerbil, forced into a round hole...
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
While I can't say I like that we are already getting another D&D set it's at least the one IP I'm willing to accept being in Magic.
With that said Minsc is surprisingly decent, though I have no idea who that character is in the least bit. Three counters are strong and I like the keyword focus and of course card draw plus damage is nice.
I never considering a Brass dragon being black. Not sure what it should be, but that's not the color. Decent card, but you could get extremely unlucky with low rolls and nothing to get out of someone's graveyard.
Mother Brain- I mean Elder Brain is so weird to basically have another Ancient Brass Dragon at a lower rarity. Both are X/6, with evasion, at 7 CMC, and steals your opponents stuff, it's really strange. I feel this would have been a nice chance to have Brain as a new creature type , and maybe Elder what with it being called Elder Brain. I kind of like this card more than the Brass Dragon.
Wand of Wonder is just Chaos Wand that's forced into a color and +1 CMC and I can't tell if it's better or not. On one hand you can cast more cards from it, but you could potentially waste cards when rolling low. I like me some Chaos Wand and it has completely turned games around for me so more of it is never bad. Looks like this could be the Bundle promo, based off that 3rd version.
The opponent lands are nice, but why not just do the full 10?
About ding dang darn time Reflecting Pool actually got a reprint. I figured that would have happened far more with the 5 color, 4 color, and how many 3 color commander precons we've gotten.
Fireball should have been in Forgotten Realms, how it wasn't I still don't know. Lightning Bolt is always welcome.
They're really letting just anybody be a planeswalker now.
In a very technical sense Minsc is a Planeswalker actually, he's been to the Demiplane of Dread in the Shadowfell, he's been to Hell and back, and more.
no, your commander is "minsc & boo, timeless heroes". but i would say this design would be much more acceptable if it did. as it stands it's just a shoddy cash grab based on people nostalgia for memorable character without any real clever design put into it.
