Oh by the way from Reddit and I looked more carefully at something
look at the top part of the bant commander deck box.
what so important?
that would be this
IT MEANS THIS ART CARD IS THE MAIN COMMANDER OF THE BANT DECK!
I think you could be right.
Any idea what the thing on the Obscura box even is? Also notice the cat ears on the Caberatti Caphony box, on a otherwise human looking top head, could MtG get it's first Neko (mostly human looking Catgirl)?
im Sorry but your minority of caring about stuff like motorcycles/cars/trains/fedoras/DJ in magic people are adapting already sorry.
I seriously doubt I'm the minority, just less vocal about it. But if the cards play well then that's great. I just have no interest in buying any, but it's all good. People who like it will buy it and people who don't won't so everybody's happy I'm just sad to see things go this way
The ikoria triomes don’t have the original names (femur, sultai, etc) so why does it matter if these do?
Because the Ikoria triomes set the precedent for these lands, and the Tarkir clans didn't? I didn't think that needed to be explained.
I'm not saying that they NEED to follow the same naming convention. I just think it was a missed opportunity, and that "triome" is an elegant name to retain for the allied cycle.
Ah I see, I thought you were upset about the new triomes being named for their in world locations instead of the Alara shards (as you stated); which is why I referenced the current triomes not being named after the enemy shards (khans). I guess I just didn’t understand why you were upset in conjunction with your reference of shards of alara. Either way, all ten will be called triomes by players and the UBR one will be called the “grixis triome” just like the current URG is called the “temur” or “rug” triome by enfranchised players. I wouldn’t sweat what there actual names are, barely anyone will know them.

I think, it matters less whether they are Grixis Triome etc. and more whether they are triomes to begin with. If they made a new plane with arc colors that makes sense with triomes that probably would be fine, too. It's just weird that one half of the cycle adheres to such a strict naming convention and the other half doesn't.
Yeah, I get it. I can’t really think of another land cycle though that follows this pattern except the guild gates. Shocks, pain lands, fetches, check lands, fast lands, tango lands, man lands... none of them have this type of a naming convention, so I wouldn’t expect the triomes to do something different. The name “triome” I think just fit thematically with a set all about beasts and their liars. I.E. different beasts from different habitats. This set is more like ravnica, and the lands represent places in the different factions lairs much like temple gardens and watery graves in ravnica.
I love art deco and the art in itself is pretty interesting. Just not in Magic. There's a cat in a suit and fedora.... What the **** is going on man.
It's just Ravnica but visually brighter.
Nah. Some aspects, but not really
I agree with Simto here. As far as I can tell, New Capenna is distinctly higher-tech than Ravnica (at least overall). Ravnica may have figured out coffee, but New Capenna definitely has automobiles and skyscrapers and may have figured out the phonograph and saxophone.

I think this will be a more interesting test of people's lines on what's acceptable in Magic than Neon Dynasty. Sci-fi stuff has always been part of Magic, Neon Dynasty mostly pushed that a little, but largely skipped over modernity. New Capenna will be the closest to a modern setting Magic has come without laserguns and mech suits, though only by a few decades since Ravnica and Innistrad both have a sort of late 19th century vibe.
Little surprised they kept Friends Forever and didn't just change it to partner.
That would be a functional change, since FF cards can only partner with each other, and not the wider collection of Partner cards. And Partner With wouldn't work either, since that includes a tutoring mechanic that these don't have.
They could say Partner With if they listed all those cards, but that's painfully inelegant and space-consuming.
Again, that doesn't work, because Partner With includes a tutor mechanic to go get the other Partner, which FF doesn't have.

Ravnica has cars (in the novels) and skyscrapers. It really is a perception thing.
but I'm bummed that the alt arts of the triomes just look so... Ugly. Even by this art style standards.
Like I dug the alt arts of the Ikoria triomes, and I know those were about embracing the weird nature of ikoria and these have to embrace city architecture // gang aesthetic, but they dont even seem... Picturesque or impressive in any way.
I'm reminded of Kaldheim where everyone was having a fit over snow not being in the set and Kaya killing Vorniclex. Those sure turned out right and no looked like an ass for not waiting to see how everything turned out before assuming what was gonna happen.

Admitting mistakes? On the internet? Who does that?
Lame. Another Planeswalker killing a flavorful legend on their own turf just to become the set's Mary Sue again
and just as we're introduced to them no less
What are you talking about?
Ob Nixlis killing the mafia boss demon
What demon? All the crime families have new flavourful legends that are alive.
Based on one of the key arts from the set
I’ve been wrong before. I also complained about C18 not featuring Serra and it turned out to have Arixmethes. Which we all know I adored. I’d like to be wrong about Ob killing a new character but we’ll see.

So you're complaining about something you've just assumed based on little evidence.
Right.

Well, something confirmed in the key art of the set. Visual evidence is rather compelling.

Wasn't visual evidence also the argument against snow lands in Kaldheim.
He looks like some suffering Jesus in a renaissance painting. The clothes on old Ob are pretty ugly though. It's a representation of the key tension in the set's flavor: it's supposed to be a fantasy game representing tropes that are very un-fantasy.

That magic item in Jetmir's hand that looks like something a Druid would use makes me wonder if the by bosses will have class creature types too?
Jetmir - Demon Cat Druid -R/W/G
Raffine - Demon Sphinx Wizard
Spara- Demon Bird Cleric - W/B/G
Ziatora- Demon Dragon Warrior (or Shaman) - G/R/B
Xander- Demon Vampire Rogue (or Warlock) - B/U/R
I think you could be right.

Also, rule of noir: no blood, no foul. Even people who get poisoned bleed out somewhere. Could Ob "My purpose in life is to conquer worlds" Nixilis have knocked this guy out? Sure. But is he dead? No. (Watch this get turned on him like the last time he was way too confident he had beaten everyone.)
