I don't know, that's pretty definitely Jin G to my eye. Does that mean this is art for a new Jin G? That's hard to say, for all we know it could indeed be Opt with really pretty art.
I don't think that is the art of the actual Jin Gitaxias card, it doesn't look right for legendary creature art, but its absolute confirmation of him. It's probably an instant or sorcery with 'Gitaxian' in the the name.
psyched to see them moving that forward! I don't think we have had more than a passing reference in a year.

it would be great to return to Phyrexia soon.
They are 100% building up for a return to Phyrexia, like they are right out in the open about it. Trouble is that they have been building to it since at least 2018 with Dominaria and Karn going to dig up the Sylex, and at this rate it will be 2026 before it happens, assuming they continue with one praetor in the first set of the year and then do Phyrexia after that.
Hopefully that's just the first two and not the pattern. I know it can't be this year, but 2023 or 2024 would be reasonable

Storytelling as of late has been very lacklustre. I know the "next big storyline" event started with Throne of Eldraine largely, but the way they convey it has been stunted. Yes I get people were tired of the Gatewatch and this is WOTC's way of licking their wounds from the asshattery that was War of the Spark, but you've had >2 years to get your things in order and go back to your top-notch storytelling ways.
I hope that they can begin to tie it all together more than they have been.
(Gatewatch itself wasn't a bad idea. In fact the character development in Kaladesh and thereafter was stellar. But a knee-jerk method of ending it the way they did didn't help things).

Honestly, I thought the storytelling in pre-War of the Spark sets like Ixalan wasn't spectacular, just workmanlike. It gets the point across at best, and at worst, like for the Rivals of Ixalan stories, we only realize too late that the story doesn't depict what's in the cards.

I think a a part of that was outside of creatives control.
Some leaker (who got Kamigawa and other spoilers right) said that Sheoldred was suppose to be in Eldraine. Later Maro talked on how Eldraine was originally gonna be two sets with one more focused on the Arthurian side and would have been a bit lighter in tone and one more focused on the Fairy tale side with a darker tone (mimicking how the twins went from the safety of the castle and home to go into the fairy tale woods as part of their quest) and that Kasmina was gonna to be in the set as the Merlin stand in. So if the leaker is right (and they had been right about stuff) seems like the Sheoldred bit got cut out.
Also Theros Beyond Death had its novel cancelled but the brief summary did note that Ashiok learned of Phyrexia from Elspeth and went to learn more about them. While not a praetor per say it is likely Ashiok will become an ally to the Phyrexias since it would be the best nightmare fuel.

I know a lot of people are excited to see Phyrexians I am glad they have only given drips of them. I've said it in the past, probably when Vorinclex was revealed lol, but I feel that if they overwhelm us people will get sick of them. The eldrazi were focused in 3 sets and people were already done with them. And some people are already a little weary about original Kamigawa being combined with cyberpunk. If we see Phyrexian ninjas I think people will be upset lol. I hope they slowly reveal the plan and then the war with the phyrexians is like 1-2 sets in stead of like 2 years of sets fighting them. But I know some would rather it be the other way around.

I think they are having a slow burn too and for a number of reasons one being what you said, helps keep them from getting over done. Which is why like Kaldheim I'm guessing we will only see Jin and no other (or very few) other phyrexia cards in the set.
Another reason is Maro and other wotc talked on how Phyrexia is a lot more interesting as an invading force. Having small drips of them showing up lets them be that without needing to have a whole set about them full on invading and lets them build tension.
Speaking of the tension I think method builds up a lot of tension. WE know who the phyrexia are but Kaya (during Kaldheim), Kaito and the people of Kaldheim and Kamigawa don't so we can tell the danger they pose. We also don't know (though it dose seem like its Tezzeret) how they are able to move between planes which up until has been the only thing holding them back. It also lets us slowly try to piece together what they might be up too.

That doesn't mean people won't get tired of it if they keep hammering the same themes over and over for too long.
I know that people love them but like Mergatroid said if they get hammered into us it will be too much. The Eldrazi themselves were and to an extent still are pretty popular themselves, but their presence were overwhelming in the return sets to Zendikar and Innistrad. Like I said Kamigawa is already stretching itself fitting in all of the traditional stuff with the cyberpunk. I like the praetors showing up and story bits thrown in but the set will be terrible if it has to compete with phyrexian cyberpunk ninja's running around.

Slivers used to be one of the most beloved tribes in all of Magic too. Not so much these days.
What we are getting is a *MUCH SUBTLER* 3-4 year build up in storyline, culminating (obviously) in a Return to Phyrexia block (or two) to wrap it all up. They did the same thing with Gatewatch chasing after Nicol Bolas. It went fine except people got sick of the Gatewatch pretty quickly. Eldrazi were an unfortunate bystander but there certainly are valid reasons to be sick of them forever, lol. I think they were just implemented very poorly the 2nd time around but whatever.
Phyrexians ARE beloved but I can see them running that IP into the ground too without a care in the world. I really don't see us going back to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia a FOURTH time after that but who knows. If anything, they are lazy and don't like creating brand new stuff if old stuff will work just fine.
I guess Tezzeret decided to renew his relationship with the Phyrexians.
Tezz is getting pettier and pettier as a villain since Kaladesh.
Enh. Tezzeret going to the Phyrexians just makes too much sense after War of the Spark.
1) He is well aware of them.
2) He needs protection after his (admittedly not-completely-voluntary) support of Nicol Bolas and a lynchpin of his plan every bit as much as Liliana. And unlike Liliana, he didn't even try to redeem himself.
3) He has something (the Bridge) that the Phyrexians desperately want.
Taken all in all, they are by far his best natural allies, for the moment at least.
The problem with the Eldrazi was nothing to do with them. RoE was a ton of fun. it's just that the returns to Zendikar and Innistrad with both 'here are Eldrzi and NOTHING else'. It's a problem that Magic has, more in the last several years. they say 'this is the theme of the set' and everything has to be about that. Ixalan may have been the worst, along with the Eldrazi returns, where they said the theme is these four tribes.....and if you don't like these four tribes, you are out of luck. they create these planes that are supposed to be everything that the inhabitants know, it's their entire world, and it's a total planet of hats.
Kaladesh- everyone is inventors, everything is about the fair and the inventions, every character we meet makes them, the burgers are probably made by a robot
Eldritch Moon- that werewolf is an Eldrazi, that tree is an Eldrazi, look at my sword, it's an Eldrazi!
Ixalan- Vampires, Dinosaurs, Pirates and Merfolk, all looking for a treasure.
Dominaria, Ravnica and Tarkir are the only ones that don't feel like that as much, and even the Ravnica guilds are a bit planet of hat

there’s one factor you guys aren't taking into factor
Antiquities all the way to apocalypse we were getting phyrexians gently did we get sick of them from that
plus we got scars of mirrodin black for their return were we sick of them from that?
I have mixed feelings about the potential of Sheoldred in Eldraine as originally mentioned above. The more I think about it, the more I feel they're going about introducing the main antagonists and plotline in a slower manner than they have been of late.
With the Weatherlight Saga, people were so sick of Phyrexians by the time the story wrapped up in Apocalypse no one wanted to hear the word Phyrexia for a long time. Like from essentially from Antiquities to Apocalypse with some breaks in between is quite a lot. Scars of Mirrodin was an exception but that didn't help the cause. There are a lot of players who only know the Eldrazi; some newer players never experienced Phyrexians so that's something to consider too. But we'll see where it goes.
I don't think WOTC can afford to have their two biggest major antagonists be that heavily disliked without a proper back-up outside of an Avengers-style arrangement involving strictly planeswalkers.
