Today Mark talks about how Unfinity came about... and why it's a black-border set. He also reveals that this set has an all-foil Collector Booster, for the five of you who want to make a foil cube out of this set.
First off, the acorn cards, named after their security stamp. Any card with this stamp is not legal in any format outside of Unfinity draft and other "silver-border" formats.
Here are a bunch of "normal" cards, and the set's frame treatment.
And now, the part you've all been waiting for, the lands. The basics come in two varieties: planetary (on the surface of the planet) and orbital basics. The planetary lands show up in seven out of every ten draft boosters, while the orbital lands show up in one out of every four draft boosters. For example, if you have 20 draft boosters, you'd have 14 planetary lands, and 5 orbital lands.
The shocklands appear in one out of 24 draft boosters, and are also box toppers.
Unfinity releases April 1, 2022. Participants in Release events get this promo, the one nonland reprint of the set.
Those basics are gonna cost a kdiney by how pretty they are
and The shock lands are just jaw dropping and godless shrine art……I……I’m speechless
And I can't believe it I always knew one day this would happen they at long last cracked it on how to get silver border cards legal in commander the same security holo stamp thing like with UB triangle this time it’s a acorn
why do I fell i can safely wager a unmasters set (reprints but with the acorn or no acorn/oval security stamp thing.) or they redo all the un-sets but with this security stamp treatment
The reality is, Magic is now Silver-Bordered all the time.
Its a fundamental change in magic, as its no longer special, its a joke in itself ...
Outside of that, fine value, some fun cards, so basically a win-win ...
Still strikes me on the wrong foot that Magic got to the point where Un-Cards are not special enough anymore to warrant silver-border.
Ugh the Astronomy themed Lands are slaying my soul, I want them all
Especially the plains and island
Makes me desire a land with Neptune depicted. Man I'd love a cycle with solar system inspired biome lands, like a Hallowed Fountain set on Europa featuring its rusty sulfidic ices with Jupiter's colorful canvas of clouds in the background, or a Water Grave on Triton, Neptune's moon, with Neptune displaying the Great Dark Spot etc.
So heres the "sneak peek" [the only things we care about] of a set 4 months away.
Get the hype going. Gotta get your preorders in.
???????
In a way this is sort of sickening

Seems like the black border thing will make the set more marketable and maybe we'll get some legacy goodies in there?
I always hated that I'd play an UN release then never play the cards again. At least now some can have a second life in commander decks and dumb legacy brews.
the lands are pretty enough, but they just feel... off. idk maybe its the whole space scifi thing, or maybe its that they depict whole planets, i'm just not into them. its kind of the same with the shocklands, they're neat, but i just have no desire to collect them and they don't really evoke the feeling of lands in some cases.
i'm also not super keen on the whole rope-a-doped into buying into the set just to get singles playable in other formats, and that acorn symbol better be ******* huge and obvious or its going to cause a whole lot of casual problems

A reminder of reprints so cards from mostly unstable and unsanctioned could become commander legal
from the other two sets logical guess's could be a thing most obvious is chicken egg
I've never bothered getting anything from the Un-sets before, or even silver boarder stuff for that matter, but they might finally have me with the Shocklands.

Yes, so special that almost nobody is interested to play with or against in most LGS. At least this effort of inclusivity will actually shock the more small-minded magic players communities for a new paradigm shift where the Unsets are actually respected as real magic cards with the same dignity of any other magic card and thats because this time you can play them in edh and real tournaments.

I love you now.

Can you imagine, Steam Vents on Io or Venus
Martian Blood Crypt (iron)
Breeding Pool on Kraken Mare of Titan
Temple Garden depicting plants on the ISS or terraforming something
Sacred Foundry - Mercury being bombarded by sunlight
Hallowed Fountain, a geyser on Europa with Jupiter
Watery Grave - cold, dark, distant Triton with Neptune looming in the background

Godless Shrine - THE SUN
I like most of these ideas, but I strongly doubt there are any steam vents on Venus, that planet is a cooked crisp. Io sounds very good, however. Godless Shrine... Not just the Sun, but a huge, prominent sunspot! White and Black, after all...
Dropping the ball on Water Gun Balloon Game's Holostamp in the article that introduces the Holostamp tech and explains how they use it... is just such an avoidable issue. I was really weirded out by that one.
Definitely an inferior art just functionally. I'm super happy Un-sets now can now contain eternal-legal cards if they are fine by the rules. Goodbye silver borders! You have served well.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

EDIT: Water Gun Balloon Game is another victim of the wrong card image and is getting an acorn holofoil.
EDIT 2: And image has been fixed.
If the foil policy is similar to the last Unset, the foils will be ridonkulously expensive...
It also took me a while to get the "Acorn cards" have acorn holostamps, not watermarks in the text box.

but still this opens the door for other cards from unstable and few others from un-sets to become eternal legal
If they have the acorn symbol it’s silver border
If it’s missing the acorn symbol or has the classic oval holo stamp it’s eternal legal
Especially the plains and island
