"What was the rationale for setting the next commander legends in Balders Gate? From the original commander legends reactions it seems there were a number of MTG legends that people still wanted to see printed whereas Elminster seemed to be the only one that I really saw people missing from AFR. Balders Gate is also just one city in the forgotten realms so presumably this limits options for legends vs the whole of the forgotten realms or other worlds/settings like Greyhawk or Eberron?"
"The second Commander Legends needed a theme and we thought the audience would enjoy another D&D set. There are going to be many opportunities to make more legendary characters from Magic’s past. We even have a whole premier expansion coming, Brothers War, set in the past with a lot of Magic characters people have been asking for."
Here's a good "theme" for Commander Legends 2.
Good Commander reprints.
Planeswalkers like Kiora we're unlikely to see for a while.
Past Legends that aren't locked to Dominaria during the Brother's War era.
New takes on popular Commanders.
Partner reprints that aren't in foil and certainly not etched foil.
Popular Commander mechanics and themes we won't see for a time, such as Snow.

So a few notes. Mechanics and themes are not necessarily tied to Magic’s worlds. I don’t think snow will be a thing but we could see other mechanics that don’t have a lot of support appear. And on the note of snow particular it has had like 3-4 sets and has two commanders you can build around. On kiora she’s bound to get more versions and she wouldn’t necessarily receive support in a supplemental set which is reserved more for characters who are either dead or who do not fit in the current canon like Aminatou who is too powerful to fit the story. I am saying this not in a sarcastic way but more out of curiosity What not dominaria based legend are you wanting? They have fulfilled other legends such as feather in a standard set.

All I wanted was a Commander set that isn't locked into one plane, and most certainly not to one external franchise from MTG.

yeah but aren’t you more interested in Theros and Kamigawa lore anyways? We were just at Theros and we’re going to Kamigawa. I don’t know I loved the Adventures in the forgotten realms set, and am excited for more of it I do wish it were more more openended cuz I really want a card for Strahd. I think people are over doing it about their hatred of universes beyond. No one on the site is 100% in love with every plane or every piece of lore. So if the flavor of a set doesn’t make you happy just wait until the next set.

But we already have Sorin and Baron Sengir. Isn't Strahd just exactly the same archetype? Innistrad is basically Ravenloft-- in fact when Innistrad was first released years ago, my thought was "oh, so it's just Ravenloft, complete with Strahd, who is even in the name." It's not particularly subtle. There's a card called Sorin, Lord of Innistrad for criminy's sakes. How much more Ravenloft can you get?

Kiora just got a card in Jumpstart: Modern Horizons. Okay it's digital only.
I could see Kiora being a cool pick for Kamigawa, exploring the Plane's sea Monsters.

They wanted an setting for this one. Didn't you remember that servey asking if Supplemental Sets should be set on a particular Plane?
Honestly I believe originally Brother's War was intended to be the Commander Legends 2 set, but then they decided to shift it to a Premiere Set, and so they needed a new location and story with suffient lore and characters to fill a Commander Legends set.
Anything in MtG lacked enough untouched Legendary characters to work except Dominaria and that would have stepped on the toes of Brother's War and Dominaria United.
So they turned to D&D, The Forgotten Realms has a huge amount of lore and hundreds of characters, 300+ novels, so they shifted towards the Forgotten Realms.
Plus it must have been a nightmare to waddle down the number of Legendary Creatures for AFR.
And they likely don't want to use of all the cardless Legacy characters in one go, they already have Brother's War, so pacing themselves for future years makes sense.

Another character you missed is Gaea - Dominaria's Goddess. She interfered with both Urza and Mishra on Argoth, sending her avengers to fight for its preservation and in an attempt to remove the brothers during the final confrontation. It was essentially a three sided battle between her and the brothers.
It would also be nice to see some modernized remakes of some of the cards like the Weakstone and Mightstone as they are pivotal to Urza's ascension to a planeswalker. Also, a new Dragon Engine would be nice, perhaps using Traxos as a template. Other potential reprints/remakes of things depicted in the story would be Feldon's Cane, Hurkyl's Recall, Ivory Tower, and Su-chi (as a remake since it's reserved).
Besides cards of Gix and Ashnod, what I most want to see is a card depicting Mishra in his final form as he approached Urza immediately preceding the Sylex blast when Mishra's was walking next to a Dragon Engine and his body was connected to it via phyrexian tech. I desperately want to see that. And it would be nice for them to give a nod to the battle taking place on the last day of the year - the only day of the year that the brothers were true equals (Urza was born on the first day and Mishra the last of the same year).

Yeah I think there is a good chance of Gaea in Brother's War. Any other Gods or Goddess' of Dominaria that might be in the set?
Honestly i hope there won't be too much gods in the set. One cool thing (in my opinion) about Dominaria and old magic was that basically every god was a false god, they were just a bunch of elementals, avatars, weird amalgamations of an angel, a corrupted planewalker and a random woman or things like that.
Magic now has a different direction since gods are super popular, but i don't want that to be retroactively pushed on older planes.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Unfortunately there is precedence for that already.
I also would prefer if Dominaria was kept free of "actual" gods, but it seems like that barrier has been broken already.

Why do you dislike actual Gods in Dominaria?
Hate to break it to you, but with all this coven stuff and shift in religion view from Angelogy to a Harvest Festival, there might be somekind of Gods in the Midnight Hunt Innistrad set, somekind of Forgotten Gods, maybe some human sacrifice to go with it. Like the return of a pre Avacyn religion and their Gods.

This might not be far off as the character on the Collector booster packs looks the part.

Why do you dislike actual Gods in Dominaria?
Because Dominaria was never intended to have actual gods. They were either just imagined beings, or diffuse forces, like how Gaea's will sometimes manifested as elementals and such, but it was never a 'personality'. In fact it was a plot point multiple times how planeswalkers frequently filled in this vacuum with their near god-like powers pre-mending. Dominarian dieties were understood as just imagined but there was also the "what if they were misremembered planeswalkers from ages past?" angle as well, which gave Dominarian cultures and history a certain texture and depth, which aligned with what Dominaria stood for: A world with a long history and a nexus of the multiverse where planeswalkers frequently traversed.
When Theros came out it was actually supposed to be a pretty big thing. Hey this world has gods, ACTUAL gods, and not just myths. Theros was directly contrasting previous worlds this way. Then Amonkhet and Kaldheim got gods too, which is fine. More than one world can have gods. But Dominaria and many other worlds were established to have no native gods, so turning previously mythological ideas into actual gods is a retcon and a dilution of both the concept of gods in Magic and the worlds themselves.

fascinating, makes sense to me, it makes me wonder why they decided to change that now?
BTW in other news according to a Forbes article in addition to new mechanics, mechanics from the original Commander Legends will appear in Commander Legends: Battle For Baldur's Gate. I'm not surprised by Partner, but they made it plural, so I guess 2 to all 4 mechanics will be back.
Between Battle For Baldur's Gate's new mechanics, Partner/Encore/Monarch/Cascade possibly returning, and possibly the return of AFR mechanics returning like Dice rolling and maybe new dungeons, plus who knows what else, I think this set will be far more complex then the original Commander Legends which only had 4 none evergreen mechanics, not including the 32 Etched Foil Legendary Creature reprints.

The old flavour text (e.g. Svyelunite Priest) kept it ambiguous about whether Svyelun was just a mythological figure - as mythical as our Greek and Norse gods IRL - or actually a real god. Think the current status of whatever pre-Avacynian Innistradi sea gods Runo Stromkirk worshipped(/worships?).

Ah okay, I guess it comes down too how canon her card is. Personally I just took them using her to help flavor a pushed merfolk for modern merfolk decks but I guess we will see.

Probably not Ratepe, as the whole Xantcha story was centuries after Brothers' War. Urza was already a planeswalker fighting Phyrexia back then.
How about the Warlord of Yotia?
not sure who the warlord name is
but here’s 3 a definately without a doubt missed
Feldon had a huge involvement of the war
same can be said about loran which is Feldon’s wife
and Ofcoarse Traxos which was created by Mishra during the brothers war (
So a few notes. Mechanics and themes are not necessarily tied to Magic’s worlds. I don’t think snow will be a thing but we could see other mechanics that don’t have a lot of support appear. yeah but aren’t you more interested in Theros and Kamigawa lore anyways? We were just at Theros and we’re going to Kamigawa. I don’t know I loved the Adventures in the forgotten realms set, and am excited for more of it I do wish it were more more openended cuz I really want a card for Strahd. I think people are over doing it about their hatred of universes beyond. No one on the site is 100% in love with every plane or every piece of lore. So if the flavor of a set doesn’t make you happy just wait until the next set.
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone

Feldon of the Third Path already has a card, and so does Traxos, Scourge of Kroog. I think Traxos doesn't need another card - it seems pretty one-dimensional to me.
it wouldn't be the first time characters got second versions of cards Gerrard has 3 variants
Magic now has a different direction since gods are super popular, but i don't want that to be retroactively pushed on older planes.
Isn't she a character from the old lore anyways tho?
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
The old flavour text (e.g. Svyelunite Priest) kept it ambiguous about whether Svyelun was just a mythological figure - as mythical as our Greek and Norse gods IRL - or actually a real god. Think the current status of whatever pre-Avacynian Innistradi sea gods Runo Stromkirk worshipped(/worships?).
Ah okay, I guess it comes down too how canon her card is. Personally I just took them using her to help flavor a pushed merfolk for modern merfolk decks but I guess we will see.
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
I wonder if Runo Stromkirk will get a card in Innistrad Midnight Hunt?

I'm personally betting Runo will show up in Crimson Vow. Maybe he'll even brush up those robes and be the priest in the wedding?
