Man, not one, but TWO good merfolk one drops in one set? Someone at WotC must really love their fishy friends. Ok, so technically this is more of a two drop, but still this is either a one mana 2/2 or a two mana 2/2 that cuts one of your opponents lands off of colored mana....that's pretty dang good.
Now all that's needed is a reprint of Aether Vial to make it more affordable, between this guy, Syvelune, Counterspell and the Rishadan Port on a stick dude Merfolk could finally break into competitive Modern, fingers crossed for my old Counterspells and 4th edition Lords of Atlantis.
All this merfolks turn into a messed up "land destruction" kind of machinery.
Yeah, as ersatz Spreading Seas-esque cheap colour denial, Tide Shaper looks viable in non-Merfolk decks, and I think Modern Merfolk would rather have Tide Shaper than the tempo-eating Rishadan Dockhand.
...Oh god, now I'm imagining UR Prowess with Tide Shaper in the sideboard.
