A case can be made for this being more powerful than his green predecessor. Costing R vs 1G is hugely relevant - and that toughness may often be hugely irrelevant. Magical christmas draw for post MH2 modern - turn 1 monkey, 2 swing monkey, find their mox amber, faithless looting discard 2 of these and asmo whatever her name is. And as for the mox amber mana, I don't know - it just seemed like a fun addition.

Normally the +2/+2 was just enough of a threat that the opponent couldnt block and you got a "free" 1 damage.
You didnt really pump it just because, unless you had the mana to spare anyway.
The red one doesnt even have the option to sstay alive, it has 1 thoughness and cannot grow, so here its entirely extra damage and nothing else.
Plays very different, and the opponent will much more likely just block and kill it.

However, thats just minor issues, if anything the card will produce some degenerate turns draw and discard a bunch of cards, get free Vengevines and free spells, its pretty much just a card for Hollow one discard decks (which are pure cancer already).

Not to linger on the trivial - but besides thraben inspector and a handful of prowess cards is anything else played in modern that doesn't just trade or squash either lizard? The toughness boost seems like a difference for limited. Also, this guy in red feels much stronger because of the larger discard theme.

Blazing Rootwalla R
Creature - Lizard
R: Blazing Rootwalla gets +2/+0 until end of turn. Activate only once per turn.
Madness 0
1/1
It's a Basking Rootwalla with no toughness boost. Still pretty good in a madness strategy.

Any 2/1, 1/2, 2/2, or 1/1 trades with Blazing Rootwalla but risks getting squashed by Basking Rootwalla. This includes Bob, Snapcaster Mage, Stoneforge Mystic, Arbor Elf, small Walking Ballista, Spike Feeder, Conclave Mentor, Seasoned Pyromancer, Giver of Runes, stuff Colossus Hammer Time plays, technically Auriok Champion survives Blazing but can get squashed by Basking....
Still nice in a G R with Lion's Eye Diamond.
