Hey we have an official Arachne in Magic! Well, as a PW anyway. I'm not too familiar with D&D dynamics...what is their equivalent to an MTG planeswalker in that setting?
Makes sense for equipment to get a theme in here. As for Drizzt, a 3/3 double strike with a nice ability is sick. Love it. I want moar.

I'm curious now, with Lolth spoiled as a walker, which gods will be creatures and which will be walkers?
you know what I’m wondering now too
because Tiamat is a creature when lolth is a walker so the gods in D&D got a little 50/50 wheel to spin on if they get a Walker status or creature status
It kinda makes sense, but Drizzt is notably a dark elf that's GW. No black splash anywhere.
I just looked it up, apparently he is an atypical dark elf who rejected the evil ways of his people and their home in the Underdark and became hero of the North. So makes sense that he is GW colored.

(1/4) We'll talk about this more during the full Adventures in the Forgotten Realm preview season, but some iconic D&D characters are being featured as Planeswalker cards in #MTGDND! What does that mean? Let's walk through it a bit... (1/3)
(2/4) To get it out of the way: This doesn't mean that these characters (like our one true queen Lolth) have a Planeswalker Spark. You won't be seeing Lolth traveling to Strixhaven to hang out with Witherbloom students any time soon.
(4/4) However, we wanted to make these characters as cool as they could possibly be, and Planeswalkers are a regular part of new Magic sets - so the Planeswalker card type made a great fit! We hope you enjoy, and we'll share more when the preview season begins!

If I shall guess, I'd expect Tyr/Helm/Lathander to be the white one, blue - Mystra (or, far less probably, Umberlee), red - either Talos (if we go the rage and lightning route) or Gond (if artifice), and Mielikki or some of the elven gods for green.
But yeah, I really expected to see God cards here, not walkers - as walkers do not make much sense in the DnD cosmology.

I understand from were Lolth as a planeswalker comes from (gods in D&D being able to act in diferent planes of D&D ie Faerum, Eberon, Darksun, etc and the spheres Abiss, material world, Astral world, etc) but kinda feel cheated that Tiamat is not a Walker...
I think this would be a good plane for 10 (or even 15) full pantheon of new gods. 5 monocolored. 10 bicolor. I'm quite sure there's absolutely no room for that but I would welcome it. A lot of the Theros ones haven't aged very well and see little play these days.
It took me a long few moments for me to realize that Lolth’s trigger didn’t say “nontoken”. Saccing a real creature and two spiders to a sac outlet gives you the loyalty needed to make those spiders again. If you have BB or DHI to force out another token each turn, you get three free sacs per round. Pretty cool for an aristocrats deck.

It kind of makes sense for the Forgotten Realms. The gods have often been flung to the plane and been forced to live as Avatars.
Also, in D&D's lore, gods are often worshipped on multiple planes, so making a god into a planeswalker is not wholly unreasonable.

It could be because in 5e lore Tiamat is trapped in Hell, while Lolth goes where she pleases, to any plane she pleases.
Love the Drizzt card but the Guen token should have been a 4/3 not a 4/1. Guen can take a beating before she has to return to the Astral Plane.
As for Drizzt being GW it is spot on. He has shunned his Drow heritage and taken up with Mielikki a godess of nature. Perfect fit.
Lolth should have been a God as well. (Yeah I know she's a walker, but nevertheless)
Love to see Breunor but I'm meh on his abilities.
Lets bring on Wulfgar, Cattie Brie and Regis next.
Don't forget about Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle
EDIT: I wonder if Elminster will be a legendary creature or a planeswalker.
Battlehammer is an 2 colour Uncommon, so there could be a Kaldheim style 2 Colour Uncommon Legendary Creature Cycle themed around Legend of Drizzt characters, both allies and enemies of Drizzt, freeing up Rare and Mythic rare Legendary Creatures slots for none Legendary of Drizzt D&D/FR characters. The video said alot of D&D characters are in the set.
So by doing this they can have a whole bunch of Drizzt Characters, but also have major Gods, Novels, Important NPCs, and Villians/Monsters in the book. Farideh, Gilgeam, Havilar, Mehan, Elminister, Mirt, Volo, Sune, Tzass Tam, Everis Cale, etc...

Very excited!
I am sure it will be like War of the Spark or Dominaria, where there were a lot of named characters but some had to be used to fill up uncommon slots, which made them inherently less powerful and amazing (since the design space is more limited).
Still, I am eager to see more named characters! I wonder how many gods we will get. Since they are clearly not all creatures or planeswalkers, there is a wide opening for them to fill many different slots. I hope we also get lots of equipment, like Icing Death, Twinkle, etc.
the art isn't doing anything fancy, its just kind of the run of the mill stuff we expect now.
the abilities are... i mean they're... they're abilities i guess. they're nothing i want to build around, they don't really spark my deck building fire. i'm not even sure where i'd want to jam these. the equipment guy is alright, still doesn't really push the theme. drizzt is okay i guess, he'll be dangerous in standard probably and i'm sure d&d edh'ers will swoon over him despite being in colors with lackluster spot removal. lolth is... i like her static ability but... these just aren't ding anything for me.
i'm not sure if its fatigue from product bombardment, or if its because its a d&d crossover set, but these illicit no real feelings from me at all.

I don't think anyone mentioned it yet, but Drizzt grows from ANY creature with larger power, not just your own.
5-mana is asking a lot for constructed but he's certainly a strong card worthy of the D&D fame that him and his party carries.
Gods being planeswalkers seems dumb when there are actual characters with abilites to cross planes already, or especially a missed chance to bring some Magic characters over into D&D for a little while.
Have to remember that in D&D any mid-level spellcaster (Wizard, Sorc, Druid, Cleric etc.) can planeswalk easily, though only within the D&D multiverse. No spark is needed, just access to the right spell.
Whilst it's initially disappointing to see Llolth as a walker rather than a God - does this mean wizards are expanding her lore to be able to planeswalk away from the D&D multiverse and into the MTG realms? Perhaps in the future we'll see the spider queen interfering in Innistrad or the like.

This is a nice surprise (unless accidental early preview) we getting a couple more D&D cards early
my thoughts
lolth: oh hohoho aristocrat players are gonna go bananas for this one.
Bruenor: aaaand just like that the lorehold party is over back to combat focused boros legends but colossal hammer Hype!
drizzet: oh wow you Basicly paying 5 for 10 power is nice. And gets bigger if your creatures were bigger than him. Sad his panther is just a token.
The everpresent fungus among us.

Scion of the Ur-Dragon

Drizzt is effectively 10 power for 5 mana, which is nothing to scoop at.
if the token gets killed, it becomes a 4/4 double striker....
also, it's crazy bananas with pump spells hahahha
And isn't he the a-typical drow thats more heroic and doesn't fit the traditional drow? GW as the enemy colors of B make more sense.
She is the main goddess of the drow.
Also of note the planeswalker cards we will see in this set and other crossover aren't an equivalent to planeswalker but just playing by rule of cool;
