Lots of stuff today. First off, Modern Horizons. We're getting the return of old-border promos, reprints of Sanctum Prelate and Counterspell in the reprint slot, a 2/2 Lion's Eye Diamond, whatever the hell a Saga land is, and sketch promos.
Now, the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms begin. Here we have basics with evocative art and flavor text, iconic spells, the Halfling creature type, our queen Tiamat, a sneak peek on Beholders and the showcase frame, and the Vorpal Sword as a Buy-A-Box promo.
EDIT: We're also getting four Commander precons with Adevntures in the Forgotten Realms. All we have are their names:
Aura of Courage
Dungeons of Death
Draconic Rage
Planar Portal
But wait, there's more! With more and more stores opening up after COVID (for the US, you better complete your vaccines by May 20), anyone who spends $50 or more on sealed product get this for free. Later on this year, some WPN stores will get some Convention Edition Mystery Boosters boxes.
Finally (I think), meet two cards from the incoming Historic Anthology V.
Nope, I'm sticking to the original Zendikar arts for the enemy Fetchlands. I only need two more before I have full play sets of all of them in foil. Thanks.
That's a pretty clever use of those weird land types necessary on the Urzatron, haha. I'm glad we finally have the Enchantment Land. Honestly, I'm satisfied with this.
I hope there are more Enchantment Lands, with Theros themed ones. The first Enchantment Land we received is still artifact themed, which is rather lame. Good card though, and need design, but conceptually and thematically it's not doing it for me. I'd love something more related to actual Enchantment strategies. Ideally we'll see actual Enchantment lands similarly to the Artifact lands, where they're literally just Enchantment Lands.
I am pleased to see regular border Misty Rainforest. Hope I can secure one for a reasonable price.
Seeing Tiamat is cool but seems really slow and weak.
Wonder if Kithkin will get errata'd to Halflings or if they will be separate.

These have the original Zendikar art.
Maybe you meant the original Zendikar versions of the cards?

Finally, we couldn't explore the multiplayer fun of Dungeons & Dragons without a special nod to multiplayer Magic with four new Commander decks alongside the release of Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. Created to line up alongside Strixhaven's Commander decks, these are powerful decks for current Commander players ready to form a party for an unforgettable journey:
Aura of Courage
Dungeons of Death
Draconic Rage
Planar Portal
the bolded part these confirmed as commander 2021 decks part 2
oh each deck prediction
aura: that’s Basicly gonna be a commander deck version of knight tribal deck that happened in throne of eldraine. The key is that deck name is pretty much the exact name of a 10th level Paladin spell in D&D and paladins are Basicly knights
Dungeon: based on the new mechanic but hopefully it’s related to curse's
draconic: let’s put it this way it’s the 5-color commander 2017 deck but with a commander that doesn't have the eminence mechanic. And probably nerfed

The portal one will likely be an Angels, Demons, Devils deck aka planar creatures. Maybe Black White.
Draconic Rage Dragons obviously, but maybe Kobolds and Dragonborn too. Maybe Red White.
Dungeons of Death will likely explore this Dungeon card type and undead and other common dungeon dwelling monsters. Black Green maybe.
Aura of Courage will have some Knights, but might be a general hero creature class type deck as well, after all the Paladins aura works on all allies, not just Paladins. The face card will be a Knight of course. Heck it could even be a God like Torm or Red Knight.
I love that Urza’s Saga is a Urza’s land and an Enchanement Saga. (Plus a meta joke that it is an enchantment, but actually is an Artifact themed card)
I wish it can stick around for more activations of II, but max of 2 (the second one being in response to III) is fine.
III Trinket Mage into play will probably get a Sol Ring where it is legal. (Or something broken of course)
I really like this card for my artifact cube.
Old border fetches are cool, can’t help but feel bad a little after collecting my expeds! (After a little thought I think I stil like my expeds). Cool that there are so many fetch cycle options out there: old border, new border, full art, 2 expeds. Can’t complain.
Well, whomever said MH2 will be utter trash outside of the fetch's need a good kick in the teeth. This set will be amazing. What will also be amazing will be the number of people complaining about the price points.
There's always going to be people complaining about the prices. It's pay to play; put up with it or don't buy a box. Take The Professor's route & buy singles
I like the gambling aspect, so to speak, that comes with buying a box. It's like digging for treasure.
I, for one, am super stoked about MH2 & the D&D set! Take my money! Me wants it!
You know, I see exciting things here with an enchantment land, fetches, a call back, and D&D stuff that looks fun, but honestly I can't get excited for any of it.
Urza's Saga Is all kinds of weird, though. As I scrolled down, my reactions were
->"Urza's Saga is now a cardname? Cool, and it's an actual Saga, too!"
->"Hey, cool, it's also an Urza's. Wait, what?" *reads typeline again* "A Saga that is a land???" coupled with "Huh, okay, cool in way? Because that at least officially introduces Enchantment Lands, which I wanted to see for years..."
->"Okay, guess you have to do that if you want the land-exclusive subtype Urza's and the enchantment-exclusive subtype Saga..."
-> "Mana cost instead of mana value? So no Elven Bow et cetera..?"
In summary, to me this card is about equal parts exciting and irritating. Huh.
Modern Humans are going to love, love, love Sanctum Prelate and its ability to hose 2/3s of Modern's removal spells just by standing there and naming the number 1. Modern Heliod Company probably wants Prelate, too. Modern Death and Taxes might even find a reason to pick Prelate up.
Power Word Kill looks pretty sweet in Modern, especially since Mutavault's popularity has dropped off a cliff. About the most relevant creatures in Modern right now this wishes it could hit are Realmwalker and Velomachus Lorehold. ...Yeah, those aren't many.
Urza's Saga looks more and more like uncounterable Trinket Mage on a land - possibly with an extra body, and definitely with some versatility if you cannot pay for the creature - the more I look at it. It'll probably be deceptively good.

Yeah, I meant the original Zendikar printing.
According with 203.3a The converted mana cost of an object with no mana cost is 0.

First the party continues for Year of DFC's
don't over think it since it’s probably for D&D players but.
it saids “20-sided die” rather than “spin down life counter” I know it’s for D&D but could the die rolling mechanic finally happening in black border?

(By cheat look at cards like Rashmi, Eternities Crafter and Show and Tell for 2 examples)
I love it.

Love the fullart Counterspell, though.
'^^
And of course, thanks for posting this @lookingupanddown!
: D
Glad to finally see Counterspell in Modern! We've been stuck with Mana Leak and Logic Knot for far too long.
Urza's Saga makes me wish even more fervently that Modern Horizons II finally gives Modern Retrofitter Foundry. Tutoring for stuff like Mishra's Bauble, Mox Amber, Pyrite Spellbomb, Relic of Progenitus, Ornithopter, or Gingerbrute can't be that bad, though.
Power Word Kill looks pretty sweet in Modern, especially since Mutavault's popularity has dropped off a cliff. About the most relevant creatures in Modern right now this wishes it could hit are Realmwalker and Velomachus Lorehold. ...Yeah, those aren't many.
Might there be a chance that Brainstone finally makes Miracles (e.g. Terminus) viable in Modern? Karn, the Great Creator randomly hosing it is no fun, though.
EDIT: Got to test Urza's Saga in Modern Colossus Hammer Time. Urza's Saga is Stoneforge Mystic on a fricken land there! It'll definitely win games in that deck.
