So I have two different EDH decks that, for various reasons, run 100% basics (Karametra, God of Harvests and Wort, the Raidmother) - these would have been fun to add to one of those decks, but not for these prices. Then again, that goes for pretty much all secret lairs.
I'd be curious to know what those reasons are. One of my main commanders is Karametra.
Part of it is budget reasons, but mostly it's just a matter of the deck running pretty much entirely on landfall triggers for everything. I can easily hit 25+ lands once I gain critical mass, and if I ever run out of landfall triggers I'm pretty much done.
I'm curious who they thought would be the target group for these.
I suspect there are two general types of "bling" players: those who like a uniform set of bling, with all cards conforming to specific criteria, and those who like as wide an array as possible of bling. This would apply to the latter group, but then so do most SL drops.

I'm solidly in the second category, but those are too pricey for me. There is already a bunch of options for basic lands at this point anyway.

Occasionally people ask for these on Maro's blog. Then there's usually some replies from other people who also want them. It's probably a very small market, but for a print-to-order product, that's perfect, so those who want them get them, and WotC doesn't overprint something not a lot of people want.

MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
I'm actually going to be rifling my collection to see how I can come up with $320 for the foil 10x set. I dont yet know if I want them for my UNEDH (would turn off a couple of cards like Topdeck the Halls and Artful Looter) or the more likely choice, for my Limited box: a set of sleeves and 10x each basic land I use for Limited. Would be a useful tilt for that little bit of competitive advantage. *evil grin*
but i will punch them square in the face if they only do one of each of these in a secret lair for the third time.
Why wouldn’t they? Clearly the sales figures have shown that people are still more than willing to buy tons of them even with only one of each in a pack.
You’re awfully animous about something that you aren’t obligated to buy. Are you even interested in owning most of these basic land secret lairs?
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I really, really don't get the anger over these outside of the price tag. As a concept these are the PERFECT Secret Lairs. Are these weird cosmetic prints of cards that have a high price tag? No. Are there any accessibility issues for the normal versions? No, you probably own too many basics already. There is zero FOMO here, just pure bling. $30 is way, way too much, of course, but it's not like these are needed somewhere with no accessible alternatives.
Heck, the market on these is so niche, this would go nowhere else. No, these do not fit in Un-sets, people value the full-art land way too highly for that. The majority of the silver-border market consists of people buying full-art lands. Take that away, and virtually no one outside of the occasional Un-drafter will buy them.
Comparing the Text Lands to the AFR Basic lands that have both gorgeous art and flavourful text and what will undoubtedly be a cheap price, making the high priced rip off text lands look even more obscene.

...and still I bought them! Lol here's hoping these Tilt! people just as hard at my LGS as they do on here!

Imagine playing these at an actual competitive game. I'd do it merely for the initial reaction.

Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.

The idea for these is so old, there are proxies for them from years ago.
