What reason is there for her to hide her identity? Is she known on this plane? For being a multiverse everyone sure does know everyone else.
Easily couldve been any other walker whose storyline HASNT been concluded.
But sex sells.
I'm confused. How does the mere presence of a female character equate to "sex sells"?
Especially with how unsexualized this art is when compared to past incarnations of her. Clearly this card has nothing to do with sex selling. That's not even to mention the fact that her story has not reached its conclusion due to the dangling plot thread that is the Raven Man.

"Instructor who has a secret identity" is a common Magic School trope. There's Harry Potter of course as has been previously mentioned, also Little Witch Academia. It's not as effective to use this trope on an entirely new character for both their true and assumed identities since neither have a pre-established significance for the audience.
I feel like this is one time the "hotness" of a character is truly flavorfully intentional, since she fits the role of the "mysterious and seductive substitute teacher who shows up out of no where and turns out to be a witch/necromancer/alien/giant mantis, etc." This is a school plane, after all - certain high school tropes outside of wizarding worlds ought to show up.
I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of something that has little if no direct application to the story as a whole. She's essentially hiding out from having been an accessory against her will to one of the multiverse's greatest near-omniscient power grabs it has seen to our knowledge. It makes sense for her to "change her name/game" in order to redirect attention away from her while she seeks redemption in some form or another.
I personally like this iteration of her, and the name is giving off strong X-Men vibes for whatever reason I cannot really identify at this time.
Take a deep breath...

Well this is 2 of Maro's hints in one card.
I would have liked if this was a new character. I m suffering of brand fatigue i guess.
The static ability is great btw, card draw removal with small life gain is nice.
The card number of 83 on a black card with a name that starts with P suggests a volume of multicolored cards closer to Ravnica than Ikoria. Not conclusive by any means, though.
Isn't magecraft completely broken? You can copy your copy spell with itself and keep going
A spell can never target itself, so no. It works if you have 2, but then it's a 3 card combo that requires a 6 mana permanent, so whatever.
3 card combo where...
Piece one can be almost everything including double vision, swarm intelligence, dual strike and so on. Basically your first combo piece can be 10+ different cards
Piece two need to be a little more specific but still there are at least three different cards working with it: twincast, reverberate, fork... i'm sure i can find one
Piece three can be ANY magecraft card, not just the 6 mana ones. I higly doubt we'll see this new mechanic only on Liliana
So yeah, seems like a dumb mechanic for dumb combos for dumb players.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Ral, Storm Conduit was never a significant card on any table. So while I expect this mechanic to be good there's no need to doomsay.
Also its a 4 card combo. Original spell, first copy spell, second copy spell, magecraft card. Its not an impressive combo by any stretch.

She's here because she is a master of necromancy hiding out from her demons and past. I don't think that's a valid reason, especially in today's day and age.

It also has to be two targeted copiers, just Dual Strike and Fork doesn't work unless there are two Dual Strikes (this was how Ral was able to get it down to 3).
And I highly doubt most magecraft cards are going to deal direct damage to opponent's face.
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

Ral is just a single card. If you don't draw Ral you don't get the combo. Suddenly you can substitute Ral with any card with magecraft. Why shouldn't this be relevant?
Your 4th piece "original spell" can be literally anything, even a spell cast by an opponent.
It is an impressive combo because of its consistency. It is a mechanic were every card with it is a combo piece. Before magecraft it only happened with persist/undying, which required way more specific combo pieces to work and were still very popular.
Number of cards required isn't the only way to evaluate a combo. When 12% of the cards in your deck can be combo piece A, 12% combo piece B and 12% combo piece C that 3 card combo becomes way more consistent than any 2 card combo.

Because obviously they are going to make all the magecraft cards be things that directly kill your opponent instead of reserving those effects for more easily answered or expensive cards. It's a game ending combo if the trigger is "deal some damage to players," but not if it's scrying, dealing damage to creatures, or any number of other effects.
And pretty much no matter what combination of cards you use, the copying part needs at least 4 mana, all of which must be either blue or red. The formats where you have access to all of those copy effects have stronger, simpler combos available already.
If magecraft proves to be too strong, I guarantee it won't have anything to do with copy loops.
With abilities like that, no wonder there is suddenly a shortage on Chain of Smog.
Ral, Storm Conduit and "Onyx" are quite some Chain Smokers.
(Hint, the Chain of Smog combo means you target yourself and make as many copies as you want, as you can still copy it even if you have no cards to discard, which usually does nothing, unless a card cares about copies of spells, as its not a cast copy for the more usual effects)
6 mana planeswalker is basically unplayable in cEDH , but storming out and draining in the process might also be something to work with (like Ad Nauseam and maybe Bolas's Citadel (which nicely combos with Sensei's Divining Top, ususally wins with Aetherflux Reservoir).
Not "crazy" broken, but certainly workable to win right away and include cards you would already play, so no extra hoops.
From a creative stand point what a cool way to show a character is undercover.
I do dislike them going on how discard and life drain are suppose to be Dav and Sorins things and like lookingupanddown said where are the zombies? Maybe since she is hiding?
Wonder if we will see another planeswalker since its likely the Kenriths are MDFC.
EDIT- Magecraft is also nifty I like how it includes copies for multiple reasons.
I thought I was gonna take a break for a while but I simply had to log back in and upvote this.
The artwork is superb and I'm glad that she's present but I admittedly wish they'd save more mechanical space for Dav.
Edit:
That dress tho! She clearly has an equivalent PhD in style!
Overcosted for her gameplay effect? Maybe? Hard to tell but aside from my Dav complaint I'm largely impressed with her.
Not shabby at all for a 6 mana planeswalker. Also, I didn't know Raul Tejada also played MTG.
Kind of like reverse Tendrils of Agony, but it costs six, and restricts you to much fewer card types, and it's not broken. +1 being Strategic Planning means that you probably aren't dropping this down until you can immediately play some other spells, or you play it when the -3 takes something out. Compared to Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge? It doesn't really end the game all that fast. And compared to something like Elspeth, Sun's Champion, the board control it provides is pretty small. Still going to inspire a good amount of abnoxious Commander storm decks, I'm sure, it's not the worst 6 mana walker I've seen but it is at least interesting.
What reason is there for her to hide her identity? Is she known on this plane? For being a multiverse everyone sure does know everyone else.
She was Bolas's accomplice in one of the greatest disasters in recent history in the one event where hundreds of Planeswalkers would have seen her. Kasmina for example has plenty of reasons to go for the throat if she ever recognizes Lili. And it doesn't matter she was coerced into it (not that anyone but the Gatewatch would even KNOW that fact), she's still directly responsible for the deaths of countless 'walkers, Dack and Gideon included.
Wasted interesting planeswalker killed that will never ever return. while bolas is just still there just trap lol.
Those planeswalker were so hype too bad being permanently gone. And now we get liliana in undercover.
Love the art and theme of this card, especially Lilliana using an alias while her card clearly being her. I love this idea of undercover Professor Lilliana, and wish Jace were here too, as a male wizard professor, which certainly suits his personality. I wonder what alias he would use?
such a fun card and concept.
That's some sharp, scholarly style here. She truly looks like a professor of witchcraft and wizardry. I am going to love this set. But my favorite aspect of this idea is the concept of her being in disguise while in this role. It's just a brilliant trope that I love.

Do you have faith that wotc understood the combo implications of magecraft and will make all the other magecraft cards specifically non-infinite? Ah!
Really i hope the spoiler season will prove you right, i really wish so.
I won't comment on the "you need 4 mana for the combo so it's totally balanced" because i don't think it need to be commented
