Seems like Magic is just gonna become like that old Marvel/Image/DC game Overpower.
They say these won't be Standard legal, as if that wasn't already a "D'uh!" - but I just hope these cards aren't good enough to sneak into Legacy or be prevalent in EDH. (I assume they won't be Modern Legal, like the Walking Dead cards.)
I already got bad news for involving commander
commander decks is how warhammer 40k is crossing over
No, I understand that. I'm just saying I hope I don't start seeing 40k cards popping up in every EDH game.
now you're out until bare minimum the set rotates.
they'll be all over standard, and if you want to participate because its an entire set you WILL have to buy in. so now you get to sit out of standard for like 2 years.
Here’s an idea, read the announcement before coming on here and pitching a fit over something that IS NOT HAPPENING.

I have been waiting all of my life for a white creature that is a legendary human monk that shoots hadouken, do vacuum hurricane kicks and does a rising uppercut
I always wanted Capcom World to do crossover for MTG

Capcom World
Capcom characters had been anywhere even in Fortnite
well I'm gonna be honest here I can somewhat adapt
the Warhammer 40k (and maybe a couple of others) thats probably as close as we're gonna get for a space-themed/Sci-fi set plus it is one of the most popular miniature games in the world
and honestly, I'm mean, forgive me but I would like the Godzilla monsters again but with more proper power and toughness because they felt tiny and didn't fit me
LotR is getting an entire set, so there's no way it's like Godzilla. You will now regularly be playing Commander games against Gandalf and Bilbo. Bummer.
I guarantee you right now that I will be playing 0 Commander games against Gandalf and Bilbo.
To me the concept isn't bad (though why Warhammer 40,000k and not Warhammer Fantasy Battles or Warhammer Age of Sigmar? Can we get guns on Ixalan now?). The problem for me is how saturated will it be with these products? and will it take the place of our yearly Commander product? (I hope not, Its our way of getting other story characters).
To me, its great until it gets to the point that at the average gaming session that I'm playing against more non-Magic Commander decks than Magic ones.

I'm with that I can accept crossovers as long as it just doesn't overthrow magic (which it shouldn't in my opinion)
and the commander decks i don't think we need to worry about that for one the standard set is doing those slightly weaker ones now
and im gonna throw the honest thruth it was right there in front of your portal three kingdoms isn't that technically a crossover set? (its pretty much this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Kingdoms isn't it?)

I guess its an 'asthetics' thing. I can believe that somewhat, LOTR or Three Kingdoms fits in MTG, since its still the same sort of fantasy-looking theme. 40k is quite a departure though.
I hope they just elevate the other commander decks like the ones we got with Kaldheim into being 'proper' commander decks.
Well I'm already off Magic at this point and just looking at the spoilers, but I think this pretty much dropped the chances of me picking up physical (or digital) cards again close to to 0%
Rational me: knows that in the long period this will hurt the game, making it too diluted/silly
Irrational me: wants to make a damn space marine deck and shout FOR THE EMPEROR

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Part of me just finds it hilarious that Guns were such a 'no-no' for Ixalan and a 'mistake' for Portal 2, that one of the first one chosen is FULL of guns!

There were fighter jets and skyscrapers on the Ikoria monster cards. Seems that preserving the fantasy setting is less of a concern in crossover stuff.
I'm over here still waiting for characters and locations from freaking Theros to get cards and Lord of the Rings is getting cards in MTG before MTG's own intellectual property does.
Seems like they took the complaints about TWD to heart. New frames will really help to make these cards look visually distinct. Not in FOMO Secret Lairs. The only remaining issue is Legacy legality but, honestly, I do not think WotC cares about Legacy.
I am very excited for the 40k commander decks! I hope we get lots of commanders out of it - Guilliman, Calgar, Dante, Grimnar, Azrael, Halbrecht, Typhus, Kharn, Fabius, Abaddon, Eldrad, Swarm Lord, Ghazghkull, Trazyn... So many good 40k character, and this is not even getting into all the juicy 30k characters!

Yeah, after 20 years of supplementary products that you don't have to play with, including My Little Pony and Funko Pops, this is definitely is a step too far!

Eeh...to be fair, this is a little different. They intend to make these products 'as common as general mtg products'. Standard wise this is gonna be fine, but for every other format, depending on how many products we get it could be a bit jarring.

Ixalan had gun, Strixhaven is coming in with scroll machine guns. They just don't use gunpowder and bullets going for magic or other projectiles instead.

"There will also be the occasional standalone product like The Walking Dead, but the intention is to typically make Universes Beyond as available as any other Magic product."
They typically took the complaints to heart.
Are they really going to foil stamp each and every common?
Older Magic as a Board Game: Panglacial Wurm , Mill

it takes quite a bit of money for wizards needs to pay the IP to even join
Well, we had two announced right away, plus the Walking Dead in the Secret lair. So probably around 1-3 a year.

Great point, but maybe they won't have the same rarity system.
