Your opponent's best Limited creature only gets one "attack step" when you cast this. Question is, when does the damage trigger start to dig into this thing's playability?
Historic Mono-U likes this, the perfect tool to deal with a potentially frustrating blocker at the cost of some life, and a 1-mana answer to the opponent's Curious Obsession if you manage to stick it, and it won't even give them a card since Obsession only triggers on combat damage. Depending on how things go, this may also see some use in Dimir Rogues. 1-mana answers can be deadly in tempo decks.
Great design! You get a huge trade up in mana efficiency, but may have to make some decisions on how you play it. But added usefulness for aggressive blue decks, or against low power creatures with tap abilities.
That’s a nice slow down ability maybe usable in other formats hey it could be removal if your running no mercy or dread (oh remind never under any circumstances do it on blightsteel colossus unless you got a Solemnity in play)
Yes, back in the mid-nineties I regularly played Time Elemental.
who didn't? card could be a real house back then and was used in a lot of control builds
anyway...
i like what this card does... but i honestly think this kind of effect would've been better in white. not just what it does, but the damage portion, and it being an enchantment, all could've worked in white without any real issue.
Hah! So you can bind Fenrir but he then takes a Rabid Bite at you. And eventually Fenrir will grow and use his ability to wrath the board, chains included, therefore he is destined to escape no matter what.
This, ladies and gents, is what we call a "flavor home run". Literally only way this could be any better would be if it enchanted you with Farewell to Arms too.
This is very, very good as blue removal goes. Yes you don't want a deck with like 5 of them in limited as they don't multiply that well, but locking down their best creature for 1 mana is an insane tempo play even if you take like 4 in the process.
Perfect for the pesky creatures in limited that annoy the fudge out of you, i.e. flyers, unblockable, mill triggers, death touch, indestructible, etc... Basically a great way for blue to deal w/ stalemate boards.
Question is, will it bring in a premium for a common, like 50 cents or more?
Am I wrong or does this card seem pretty lukewarm against any type of aggro. Putting this card on a creature with summoning sickness and taking "just one hit" is one thing but playing this card on a tapped creature that just attacked you and "taking another hit"... I imagine that would feel pretty bad.
...Then again, the same probably be said for feed the swarm so what do I really know?

Feed kills it, this keeps it on the board so if they can untap it or remove this enchantment it's game over. Feed also targets enchantments.
This card is not good against big creatures, only to tap critters that have abilities that you don't want the opp to use, probably small critters too.

Maybe beginning with Paralyzing Grasp, yeah. Dehydration was about as bad as you'd expect from Mercadian Masques.
Looks like we have ourselves a blue Vendetta!
So hmm... two Masques cards had a baby.
