Magic artist and scary good Commander player Jesper Ejsing previews two cards from the Commander precons. Here we have Verdant Force Elfball, and an Inspired Sphinx reprint, out of the Game Night box for the first time.
Verdant Force was always a pet card of mine. At least this one is, well, more useful. Although I wish that Saprolings got this kind of love and attention.
That elf is way more busted than the lame sphinx. One of the most powerful elves I've seen
Really? I don't think the elf makes the cut in my elf deck. Very little immediate impact for 6 mana.
Thinking commander, I should have specified, my mistake. Not nearly as good in duels obv.
Even in commander, I'm not really inclined to play it. The impact is slow. The effect of getting a token each turn is not something new, there's verdant force and dragon broodmother. They really don't see that much play. Even as a very relevant creature type, elf, it's too slow.

slow effects are what makes the format fun

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

I meant commander too, actually. Sure, a life and a 1/1 each upkeep is nice, and the promise of more life if you churn out more elves is good, but on a 4/4 body for 6 mana I'm just not thrilled. There are a lot of awesome elves and I don't think this will get a spot in my deck where my larger spells are either refilling my hand or ending the game like a craterhoof.
the elf is solid. i think some people are a little too critical of it. in the right builds its going to get out of control quickly. builds that run a lot of token doublers want it. yes sure, we have other cards that do this effect already that don't see a ton of play... but these are elves. most of the time they're not staying 1/1. most of the time, they're fueling heaps of other things too. its easy to abuse elven bodies to generate mana, or fodder for sac outlets with the relevant (and a lot of newly relevant) other elven sac outlets, they synergize with lathril or whatever her name is, the new commander, and the majority of the time they're going to end up being imposing due to all the elf lords elf tribal runs. yes, it'll eat removal in any good pod, but for the elf tribal decks that want it, they REALLY want it. not everything has to make an immediate board impact to be worth it. its not an amazeballs type card, but it IS a solid addition to elf tribal
the sphinx still sucks.

I'm tempted to say "hamsters" but we haven't seen Segovian elves yet so...

Hahaaa! X D
Oh, but that would have to be Segovian Elves on non-Segovian Hamsters, no? Planeswalking seems necessary for that to happen.

it’s not 3 cards per new deck it’s 8 this time so excluding the commander this is 1 of 7 new cards for the elf tribal deck
the sphinx still sucks.
