Smashing Success 3R

Destroy target artifact or land. If an artifact was destroyed this way, create a Treasure token. "Who said destruction wasn't profitable?
—Magda, brazen outlaw
So it's either a barely passable Shatter or the usual barely passable Stone Rain effect. How bad did your draft go?
Yup, it's bad. Sadly, so far it's probably the best Land Destruction effect printed in Standard on a while. Destroying Artifacts is very relevant in the current meta, Instant speed LD is very rare and Land Destruction could be useful once we're staring down the inevitable 5c The World Tree ramp piles. But nope, it's still not quite there.
Geez...You're complaining about this at COMMON?!
Instant speed and leaves behind a treasure.
Perhaps budget Daretti Commander players can put this to use.
Just be glad they didn't print demolish instead!
That's all some spoiled Magic players deserve.

well, at common and instant it's still something you hope you're not running in your draft deck.....
cards like this accomplish nothing really.
they're not fresh, not good, not powerful, not interesting, not flavorful, not playable anywhere.... that's why people are complaining.

Exactly.
This would even more more interesting with foretell 1R ... anything that reduces its cost from the dreaded 4 mana thats just a guarantee to make it unplayable garbage.
Aftershock: The OG 4 mana destroy a land or artifact, but it also could destroy a creature. Punched you in the gut for 3 as thats hard removal, not damage based removal. Demolish: At first wasn't so bad, but soon became the most generic and reviled of the bunch with its many reprints. Sunder from Within: Looks similar to Demolish on the surface except it has Arcane, which meant other cards could at least splice onto it to bolster its effects. Icefall: Looks similar to Demolish except it was actually reusable. Violent Impact: The cycling variant of Demolish.
Then we come to...Smashing Success: Its technically better than Demolish. And it does reward you with mana, but it feels like the land destruction is the tacked on part as you can tell with how the card is designed they don't even want to reward the player with a singular treasure chest for doing so. Probably because of Goldspan Dragon but that thing already creates broken nonsense so its their own fault for printing that dumb dragon.

Should simply make it non-basic land and reduce the cost by at least 2 colorless, then its something to consider.

They wont give us 2 mana land destruction that doesnt replace the land. It won't happen. They won't even give us Fulminator Mage-type stuff, anymore.
Well I played this, so it was not a Smashing Success.
