Burning-Rune Demon 4BB
Creature - Demon Berserker
Flying
When Burning-Rune Demon enters the battlefield, you may search your library for exactly two cards not named Burning-Rune Demon that have different names. If you do, reveal those cards. An opponent chooses one of them. Put the chosen card into your hand and the other into your graveyard, then shuffle your library.

"Demonic Lightning" 2R

Demonic Lightning deals 4 damage to target creature or planeswalker.
Foretell R "Burn her from the sky."

On one hand, we have this Final Parting-esque Demon, and the other is a foretell Flame Slash that also hits planeswalkers. Funnily enough, Burning-Rune Demon was leaked already (just today, I think).
So... the demon is basically a “mythicized” rune-scarred demon, huh? Decent reference that fits in the set. Bit surprised that they didn’t just reprint the card like they did with the surge.
That Demon is awesome. I love Entomb-type effects, even if its the one of two choice. Get either self-recursive threats or two targets if you're holding reanimation. Also, reading that first sentence definitely feels evil in its use of the English language.
This is one of those lightning bolt variants I'm unsure the play value of. We use Rift Bolt in modern which is somewhat similar to this and in other ways totally different. Paying 2 early and R later when you need this seems like its pretty playable. But it just feels like the timing may be off in when you WANT t foretell this.
I like the demon a lot. It's like a mini Gifts Ungiven in that you can search for your combo pieces after Reanimateing it. I have a Kaalia commander deck that utilizes reanimation as well as Sneak Attack effects that this may find a place in. The stats aren't too bad either.

Protection from reason (Decadent_Creed can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, or enchanted by reason.)
Rune-scarred is always better than this so-called mythic. Never let your enemies choose for you.
I wouldn't say rune scarred is always better. Having to search for 2 cards, especially if those 2 cards are for setting up something. is quite good. Obviously the card(s) should have some sort of graveyard shenanigans/payoff or something. It might be very specific conditions, but 2 cards is 2 cards (for example, Muldrotha doesn't care where either one goes). Some decks will indeed find better use for it (far better than rune scarred could do on that deck).
It's better in some decks and "meh" for some. Rune scarred is not always better if you just broaden your perspective.
Really like the demon, solid combo enabler abuseable with recursion. Idk if it really feeeels mythic but sure fine whatever at least its not uro/omnath

well, I wouldn't play this card in a deck that wouldn't like to have the cards on graveyard anyway.
tutor 2 cards that you want in your graveyard in a deck with multiple discard outlets and stuff and it becomes instantly a lot better than Rune-Scarred Demon.

Yeah, cards like that never see play, *cough* Gifts Ungiven *cough*. You're right punisher effects are typically bad, but I think your thought process is too linear. Rune-Scarred Demon is not always better by a long shot. This is one mana cheaper and in deck that cares for the graveyard it's tutoring 2 cards vs 1 card.

Indeed. Heck Muldrotha sees this as a cheaper to cast rune scarred while it basically tutors 2 cards for Muldrotha without any problem/"consequences".
I like the demon, when it enters you search for two cards with escape or any big threat and nullpriest of oblivion or agadeem’s awakening (In commander dread return or unburial rites seem like the best choices for value, if you don’t want to search out two redundant combo pieces). No matter which card goes to your graveyard, you’ll still get your next big threat the following turn.
However I don’t know if it’s impactful enough to see standard play, though I could see it being played in historic God-Pharaoh’s Gift decks.

EDIT: I missed it, my son pointed it out, but I just assumed this bolt hit all targets, and it does not. Boo.
don’t underrate this one just like entomb thousands of cards to use to bring it back from the grave to play or hand
Thats fine, but its 6 mana for that, simply too slow.
If you want to reanimate something, theres much better options that give you instant massive value.
For standard, this will tutor another threat (funny enough it cant chain into more copies of itself, for whatever reason).
Playing it in standard might be fine, but it competes against so many strong cards that are cheaper and provide more value than this.
But tutoring for Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger and/or Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath might still be strong enough, simply to chain a bunch of threats, if either sticks you win.

and that’s kinda rare.
