Protection from reason (Decadent_Creed can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, or enchanted by reason.)
The idea that far-right groups use Norse symbology is a demonstrable fact. The actual Nazis used a bunch of them- the whole idea of the Aryan race was linked with this sort of history.
This isn't a debatable point.
Reaching sis. Y'all looking for racism anywhere you can find it, and inventing/baiting it anywhere you can't. Spare us your white guilt, not all of us are American, and creating new people to bully (even your own) isn't changing the past, but retooling those sins to create new victims. You haven't seen real oppression in the modern era, and you shouldn't want to. Your intentions are admirable, but it's really holding us all back by reviving old tensions. It's very convienent for liberals to occupy the nation with old, dated and mostly expired racial emotions (tried and true) to overlook how increasing taxes for them to pocket hasn't actually made any difference except create new avenues for our bloated government to curiously churn out millionaire politicians.
If you like to spend 15 actual seconds on google, you can find clear evidence for the fact the nazis did in fact use a bunch of runic symbols and others have continued to do so on some scale. This is a fact.
Now, what should we do about this fact with regards to a norse themed set? Well, that's a different question. But we can say for a fact Nazis and Nazi-likes will be interested in this stuff for all the wrong reasons, and I don't know, maybe that's something to just consider for a second in how we approach the subject.
All that was being suggested was that including black people and LGBT+ people in a Norse world was a strike against giving fascists what they want from this sort of world, and you know, that sounds like a nice thing to do.
Nice tangent into tax policy(?!?) though.
No one cares.
MTGSalvation: "Norse Myth World! Can't wait to see snow, Vikings, gods, etc.!"
Liberal NPCs: "How can we make this about Racism? It's the only algorithm we can run in our minds!"
And they call me negative.
WotC: "Here are some inclusive characters for this new Norse world that increase the game's representation"
Some people: "Hey, that representation has additional meaning in this context given history"
You: "Everyone always making things about racism"
I'm sorry that racism and other prejudices exist buddy. It sucks, I know.
If you don't want to talk about discrimination, you don't have to. You don't have to scream at people for daring to mention it. Sometimes it comes up. That's it. No one's calling the entire world concept bigoted. No one's saying anything of the sort.
I don't know sis, we were having a lovely chat about this plane until y'all came in with torches screeching about "white supremacists", so you tell me.
"All that was being suggested was that including black people and LGBT+ people in a Norse world was a strike against giving fascists what they want from this sort of world, and you know, that sounds like a nice thing to do."
I don't get why that triggered you so much
Because we're here to discuss the game independent of snide ideological remarks that devolve threads into what we're seeing now. No one gives af about your soapbox and high horse. Spare us your woke movement. If representation to you is nothing but spite for a group of people you hate, you've stripped it of all the constructive influence it should have, and makes you a hater, no different from the "fascists" you claim moral high ground against. Keep it about building people up, as LGBTQ+, stop weaponizing our support and representation to serve your political agenda. It's about our humanity, we are not your ideological tools against the Right.

He wanted more Latin representation. He's correct for calling out WOTC for thinking representation is only about extremes. That said, Kaya is a Planeswalker, not a native of this plane, she can appear anywhere. And he was called out for suggesting representation is mutually exclusive, which it isn't. That was the flaw in his argument, not "racism."

It is perfectly reasonable to want more Latino characters and to express that desire. What is unacceptable is to then blame that lack of Latino representation on WotC's deliberate choice to try to represent more Black folks and folx better. It's not mutually exclusive.
I actually am a Canadian conservative queer, but what you and many similar commentators are communicating here isn't really conservatism, nor is it an argument grounded in logic, or good faith.
Its just rage mate.
There's nothing wrong with Kaya being the lead of this set. She's well-costumed and equipped for the plane. I adore her.
It is awesome to have a human planeswalker like Nico, who can better represent Non-binary folx. Nonbinary robots and monsters are hard to relate to.
We have a Latino Planeswalker. His name is Teyo. Teyo and Huatli will not be the last planeswalkers to better represent Latin American ethnicities. Teyo info
We have a new, red-headed, Scandinavian-looking Elven Planeswalker who is native to the plane of Kaldheim.

There’s certainly more thinking than knowing around here.
The posters labeled racist are the same that pointed out representation isn’t mutually exclusive. Liberals eating their own.
Creation of Niko had mostly the goal of getting people talking and sure enough judging by this thread it has achieved its purpose.
Character is interesting being blue and all and a unique set of abilities that would be intriguing to see how they are represented in a card
My problem with them is that it doesn't look anything like being from theros, given the facial features. When it comes to those i would think they are from amonkhet. I am not sure the born/initial gender is male as someone said.it might be the armor but to me it looks like they have a small pair of boobs. The goatee can be a spell, or paint or even transplant(we don't know anything about if it can be done in the realms of the multiverse). Additionally the face shape is too round for a male that is supposed to be slim.then again that might have been done on purpose with the character, to interpret them however they like.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
It's kinda stupid though, like if Ryan Gosling was the new Black Panther lol. Or if they made a set inspired by African cultures and had Jace be the face of the set and one black dude in the background of the card lol. Classic stuff lol, getting tiresome as ****. Can't everybody just chill.
The art direction from what we've seen so far generally looks cool. I'm really hoping the lands come in full art too
Amonkhet was a set inspired by African culture with four white people and Nissa as the main characters. The booster boxes featured Oketra but the planeswalker decks and the stories were focused on Gideon being a tourist on Egypt plane.
So I guess there is precedent for what seems so ridiculous to you now.
But I don't think having visitor planeswalkers being the protagonist of a plane's story is problematic, especially during the first visit. Because that always happens. Like Jace and Vraska in Ixalan for another example. It's just funny that the usual suspects only get bent out of shape about it when it's Kaya visiting a plane.

Where did you say "ancient?" I don't see it. You said "Amonket was based off African culture..." Which aspect? Modern-day or ancient? If African culture as a whole then that's way off. The Africa of today is vastly different than it was in "ancient" times. Ancient Scandinavia is different because it doesn't exist now as it did.
You may want to clarify your position in posts like these. It will help you moving forward so you don't look like an imbecile
Ancient Egypt is AN African culture therefore Amonkhet is based off of African culture, which includes Ancient Egypt. See it's a subcategory of a larger category. Just like feudal Japan is a part of Japanese culture. Or Incan and Mayan cultures are a part of South American culture.
Ancient Egypt doesn't exist today as it did back then and Ancient Scandanavia doesn't exist today as it did back then. So...what's the difference? Both of these sets, in fact almost every Magic set is based off of ancient cultures, or cultures in the middle ages, or feudal Japan. What makes Ancient Egypt so different and unable to compare?
And there's no need to unleash your hatefulness on me. If you have a legitimate point to make, then make it. I'm not here to absorb the frustrations you get from your real life.

Your cultural references are way outdated (African culture vs. ancient African culture) and did not properly indicate which you were talking about. Quite simple.
If you had originally said "Amonkhet was based off ancient African culture" then that would've been accurate.
Time for you to go eat an avocado sandwich to chill out with.
Why does it need that special designation? People are consistently saying that Kaldheim is based off of Scandanavian culture. Why aren't you bashing them for not specifying what time period the Scandanavian set was based off of? Is it because it's obvious? Because it wasn't relevant? Putting Amonkhet in some special category doesn't really make sense considering almost every single Magic set is based off of past cultures.
And it's certainly not a reason to get as upset as you did.
