Anything that is hard to fake is better. Specialized foil are decent against counterfeit.
Agreed. But that doesn't mean the cards have to look like they took a belt sander to them.
WotC is trying, I give them that. But these etched foils are a miss in my book.
The community has been on WotC for curling foils for years and this appears to be one of those cases of "be careful what you wish for you just might get it."
Innovating is one thing, but making highly desired and requested reprints exclusively available in a brand new foiling process at risk of being hit or miss is the real error in judgment here. I literally have zero valid options - curled Thrasios or sandpaper Thrasios.
I opened a few packs the other day & pulled an etched foil Obeka, Brute Chronologist. When I looked it up on ebay I was at first surprised that the Foil etched version was going for less than a normal foil. But when looking at the normal foil versions I can understand why. The etched version is harder to see in any light.
The only etched foil we opened in the box that my group collectively purchased to draft was Radiant, Serra Archangel. I don't like the foiling process, I don't like what they did with the text box, I don't like the graining image resulting from the foil process. Overall, it's just a poor image quality. I agree with Tiro, this wasn't the time for experimentation. Also, I just don't know why they had to put the *****ty foiling on the art itself. Could've just used that for the frame. And leave the fking text box alone....so sick of that.

If an independent person or group could come up with a service where you send them cards and they "foil" it for you (and it wouldn't curl) they could probably make a decent profit off it.

I just don’t like any foils in this game. I really thought they’d have actual reprints of the partners as
Non-foil for the first time. The worst part is they have all these restrictions on when and where partners can be reprinted again, so we’re stuck with these awful designs for years.

I knew someone in Miami many years ago that put a foil overlay on several of my cards and they don't curl. He moved to Orlando & I lost touch with him. If he's reading this maybe he can get in contact with Wizards and explain to them how to do it. Here's some of the cards that he "foiled" for me.

Cards I still want to see created:
|| Olantin, Lost City || Pavios and Thanasis || Choryu ||
This game just can’t have competent reprints. It just can’t.
You want to experiment? Don’t use highly requested reprints to exclusively do it.

I don’t know. Are there still people that necro 6 month old threads (that don’t belong in the rumors forum anyway)?
