I know that the old way of delivering EDH decks is dead once we had the tribal cycle which destroyed the idea of completing cycles of color combinations, but it sucks to see 2 dual color decks when we're still waiting on certain color pairings to even get an EDH deck. (Thinking mostly of Blue/White and Red/Green).
That and these themes have been reiterated on again and again. They could have at least been uninspiring in another color pairing.
Also, this kills any potential for more 4 color generals for the year since they said they weren't doing 4 colors in Legends (though I guess if this is meant to be starter product it would be strange for them to have gone 4 colors with it anyways).
These are also meant to replace the PW intro decks so seems about right power-level wise.
It's not power-level the problem it's just incredibly boring. They could have tried making simic sea monster tribal or something new like that instead it's just bland ***** we have already seen.
I was talking more to people saying they seemed to weakening the commander pre-con, when these aren't necessarily that.

I'm not wild about these and I think they're less good (from what I've seen) than the ZEN precons but, honestly, as someone who is feeling serious wallet strain from my Magic habit, I'm kind of glad that there aren't any Fierce Guardianships/Dockside Extortionists in these decks.
I do miss the old way of doing things, releasing 4/5 commanders, on their own, once a year; it was like Christmas for Commander players. But, yeah, I'm glad these'll only cost me 20 bucks or so, if I buy them at all.
All that said, again, I'd like to see them focus their Commander energy on making 4-5 really strong (and still affordable) Commander precons each year.
I do like that these replaced those jank-ass planeswalker decks, though.
EDIT: Also, I don't hate Wyleth.

Does nobody here remember it’s not the yearly commander Decks they are replacing and it’s the planeswalkers decks
I don’t remember where but I believe gavin confirmed we’re still getting those yearly commander decks with lots of new cards along with these weaker $20 ones
Even if they are boring, I love that Sea Monsters deck. I know Tiro is excited, as am I. Not sure if he remembers this but he and I had talked back and forth awhile ago about our Sea Monsters decks, and honestly this will be a nice upgrade for them.
I don't give a motha fawk about a triple post that Kraken of the Abyss is the perfect name for a sea monster and I absolutely ADORE the bioluminescence effect on a sea monster FINALLY which I have been longing to see. I love the art on it damn it, don't even care about its effect, what a perfect depiction of what I want my deck to represent. I adore this freaking card. Can you imagine returning Nykthos or Cradle after combat and replay it with the legendary serpent, or exploration, explore etc out and then get even more mana in main phase 2 to drop more massive Thassa babies? Freaking sign me the hell up and back sis
I love your palpable excitement and energy. This was fun to read.
That being said, Simic doing the same thing Simic does. Art is amazing, I have a deck for it to slot into directly but it still is uninspired in it's ability.

We already got those decks. Ikoria filled the slot for the standard 4 to 5 "Constructed" decks this year. It had 71 new cards unavailable in Ikoria, serving as the unique cards for the year.
Reki762 did point out that these were "replacing" the Planeswalker decks, though that is a bit of a misnomer, as there usually wouldn't be any decks to replace with a supplemental set like this.
Additionally, while the announcement spoke positively, it is unknown whether this process will continue into the future. It is possible this will become a staple product or it is possible that, like other pre-constructed products, they fall by the wayside.

Ryperior74, the bit (of mine) that you quoted literally said that they were replacing the planeswalker decks.
So, yes, I do remember that.:)
If I read correctly, they are not planning to release 4-5 Commander decks, on their own, as the did between 2011-2020, next year.

Yeah, we got the "real" commander decks this year already - they were the Ikoria decks.
I'm excited for a sea monster lands matter deck! Even if it is repetitive of stuff we've already seen.
The Kraken card is actually fairly good, albeit weird. It acts as a repeatable landfall trigger card, has self protection and also untaps, and can force opponent's creatures to attack.

I guess that’s true a little weird they take a year off if it’s true
but there’s one piece of evidence for that unless a error but kaldheim is getting the weaker decks as well despite the first two (4 decks) being experimental maybe time spiral remaster and modern horizons 2 are handling the old lore characters for 2021

I love the idea of a sea monster tribal commander deck. They really need their own Gishath. That said, I get the impression the UG deck kind of is sea monster tribal. The new Legendary Serpent certainly facilitates it, through ramp and hard casting I suppose. The aim seems to be making sea monsters resilient when present rather easy to swarm, and ramping into them. With minor help like Quest.
Sure I'd love a dedicated sea monster deck but I do love these cards. I wouldn't compare the Serpent to Tatyova for sea monsters. This Serpent survives Whelming Wave, is really an Azusa (2G) + half a Tatyova (1U and a half) and 1/2 mana extra for the 5/5 stats (or +2/+2) making it a balanced, solid card. It gets an additional land and an additional draw off its effect, which is significant. Tatyova's advantage is coming down a turn earlier, since most sea monsters are online by turn 6 anyway, but 5 or 6 mana isn't as major in difference as turns 1-3 IMO. What I love is playing BOTH of them, and Arixmethes triggering them both. Yes HUNTY. If I had to choose, the Serpent type, 5/5 stats and addiitonal land drop and draw win me over way more than Tatyova. That is some insane utility. In a way I prefer it to Gishath - the effects are immediate, the ramp is lasting, and it doesn't need to connect for damage to get rolling. Plays into UG's strengths perfectly. From a sea monster perspective this is a very good angle to take. No battle tricks worries here, just cast and roll with sea puppies babbyyyyy

Design of those is uninspired, isn't it? They just put statistically most common abilities from respective parts of pie and called it a day. But I can understand why they did that - this is supposed to replace planeswalker decks so the target is not established players but rather they are meant as an introduction to the format/game. Makes sense to make the cards use mechanics that are "iconic" for the colors.
I think they could put a bit more effort by not reusing that part of color pie that was reused ad nauseam in most recent sets. For example UG could have been water hydras, +1/+1 counters see creatures or something. Similar theme but different mechanics, less overlapping with cards from recent sets. Tiro should still be happy with that.
Just disappointed this is the fourth time this year we had a potential for a new Kiora and we didn't get her...come on, she should've been the Commander of this deck, the flavor is so perfect for her, sea monsters and land...uh...that's basically Master of the Depths' 1st and 3rd powers. Not like they haven't done planeswalker Commanders...it sounds like the deck I've been waiting for for her, but they didn't give us a new version to really lead it. Ugh...

It could be sea monster tribal for all we know. We've seen exactly five cards.
What would you rather have as a sea monster lord, a creature that gives them a buff, or a creature that makes it easier to get them into play?
At least the Simic card is something that is new as far as flavor goes. People have been asking for more Blue/Green sea monsters cards, and a legendary serpent is actually a really unique design.

Uhm... the first one? Everyone can ramp. Good luck winning with your bunch of tidal krakens and jokulmorders while your opponents is playing a supported tribe like dragon, where they have ramp, game-winning threats and game changing lords.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Okaaaaayyyyy but the fact that the bioluminescent kraken lures other creatures into attacking. Brilliant.
Someone gets it. As for whether I want sea monster buffs or something that puts them into play, I choose the latter. I do think this new serpent will assist with that in a neat way. I’d still love a sea monster Gisath equivalent though but this works for now
