I honestly hope this entire thing was constructed to push a certain entitled segment of the playerbase out of the game.
While that would be dreamy, it would be suicide for WotC. My friends and I are discussing this in group chat, and we've all realized that Magic is in contention for the most toxic playerbase in gaming. And we say that knowing Smash has a pedophile problem and 40k has a Nazi problem.

You're... not even wrong. We actually touched on how people are anywhere from wildly loyal to blindly in love with certain secondary-market retailers who exist to sell singles at a markup, but HOW DARE WotC ever do anything to make a dollar, when they're the ones making the game :/
The conspiracies in this thread really take the crown
It really tells you something about where all the anger surrounding this product comes from and how valid it is :/
That's ridiculous. Not everyone who criticized this product is coming from the same place on it or has the exact same argument. I agree that talk of paying off the rules committee is dubious at best, but even the people doing that aren't necessarily wrong in their other points. That's basically just Poisoning the Well.
I honestly hope this entire thing was constructed to push a certain entitled segment of the playerbase out of the game.
So your answer to a certain amount of toxic attitudes within the community is for the company who controls the game to abuse their power by intentionally screwing with those players to try to essentially bully them out of participating in the game?
Yes, we're promoting a very healthy community here.
WotC as a for-profit company is incentivized to push the limits and see what it can get away in order to get the most money it can possibly get from players. If you don't have any interest in separating the reasonable criticisms (whether or not you fully agree with them) from the toxic attitudes and chalk it all up to the rather simplistic sense of 'entitlement', you're getting in the way of the pushback the community needs in order to keep the affordability of the game in line.

I've seen quite a bit of toxicity and just general nasty rudeness on this site and Reddit and it sure isn't coming from the people voicing concerns about TWD cards or interested in exploring a new format.
"Crazy," "stupid," "whiners," "entitled," comparing other people to nazis and pedophiles in other communities. It's a really disgusting attitude to have and direct at other people in the Magic community. But I think the individual(s) that talk like this are not the norm. I don't think that they are abuaing their power. And if they were intentionally pushing toxic players out of their community, I wouldn't find that to be abuse. Not a very difficult concept, really. Which part are you unable to understand?
Yes, you have posted in this thread. My point stands. If anything, it is made stronger.

Funny, I've been told that I am a fascist piece of ***** for buying a few of these Secret Lairs, that I should be refused service at any LGS I go to for it, that I am a r-slur and am actively trying to ruin the game. And the only evidence of this has been the phantom fears of people who can't decide what exactly they are upset about.
I don't think it is toxic to point out whining. I don't think it is toxic to point out entitled behaviors. Being whiny, and behaving as though you are owed things that you haven't earned? That is toxic.

Funny, I've been told that I am a fascist piece of ***** for buying a few of these Secret Lairs,
I seriously doubt that and even if you have by one person that doesn't mean the entire player base is like that.
I don't think it is toxic to point out whining. I don't think it is toxic to point out entitled behaviors. Being whiny, and behaving as though you are owed things that you haven't earned? That is toxic.
Not seeing any of that entitlement nor whining. Seems like you have issue with people finding all of the faults in something you enjoy.
I don't think it is toxic to point out whining. I don't think it is toxic to point out entitled behaviors. Being whiny, and behaving as though you are owed things that you haven't earned? That is toxic.
And I don't think it's toxic to call out hypocrisy or narcissism. I don't think it's toxic to raise criticisms of a design, or air distrust in the direction a product is taking. I think it's far more toxic to call people 'whiners' or 'entitled' because they aired a criticism and you took it personally (like a narcissist), with the dubious argument that someone else's criticism somehow devalued the purchase you made... which is kinda sad, if you're enjoyment of a product is based in taunting others that they don't have it.
Don't think anybody has whined in here that they're owed anything. Most criticism is either 1) they're mechanically unique cards released on a limited timeframe, and 2) some people are skeptical about the precedent it creates regarding future IP crossovers. That you try to dismiss those criticism as 'whining' - while hypocritically sitting there whining yourself that not enough people are treating you like a celebrity because you endorse the product - is a self-defeating argument that will not earn you respect here.
And as presented across platforms the number one reason for people being annoyed by limited time releases isn't cost, or 'not earning it', it's just being punished because your payday/rent day/whatever falls just before/after when this week-sale begins, making it a forced missed oppourtunity. Unless people are willing to make poor life/financial decisions, which tends to be a narcisisstic behaviour that leads to whining in public spaces (such as shops or forums) that not enough people are celebrating their purchase... oh, wait...

Am I being uncivil? Am I being nasty? Check your privilege.
I honestly hope this entire thing was constructed to push a certain entitled segment of the playerbase out of the game.
You're the third person I've asked this now. Who are these entitled people? None of you who talk about this can explain any of it.
I mean, the page before this one (page 10) has multiple posts accusing WotC of bribing the RC but hey, I guess it isn't a conspiracy when it validates you.
The entitled people are the ones making claims that they deserve easy and i.mediate access in the form they want it, and are used to it, to whichever cards they want. They they are entitled to decide what is and isn't magic. That they know how Magic is supposed to be enjoyed, and that others shouldn't be allowed to enjoy it that way.
If you don't look for these things, or you avoid mirrors, you likely won't see it.

Did I claim that criticism of a product devalued my enjoyment of a product? Did I even claim that criticism of the product is invalid? No, I claimed that I haven't seen a valid criticism. And you haven't provided one. Instead, you're arguing against strawmen of your own design. You're proving my point.
What is wrong with mechanically unique cards available for a limited amount of time? Explain that without making a single assumption for me.
What is wrong with mixing other IPs in an entirely optional manner? Is there some sort of Magic: the Gathering cultural preservation initiative to save rhe delicate and fading culture of an under-30 year old card game that I am unaware of?
When did I whine about not being treated with deferrence? A lot of strawmen are losing their lives here tonight. Who hurt you? Come on now, when you assume, you make something out of somebody and somebody else... not sure how that idiom goes in English. Somebody lend linguistic hand here?
Lol that last part is exactly entitlement. You don't need and aren't owed a larger purchasing window. If you can't save $50 with a 4 week notice, then maybe the product wasn't destined to end up in your possession? It isn't in anybody's best interest to schedule their lives around your pay periods.
I mean, the page before this one (page 10) has multiple posts accusing WotC of bribing the RC but hey, I guess it isn't a conspiracy when it validates you.
It was a couple posts from a regular poster with a history of unsubstantiated and we'll say dubious theories, a post or two explaining why that was unlikely, and one saying that the RC could theoretically profit from the corporation in other ways if such a thing were going on. Much ado about nothing, my dude. You're just making it into a bigger thing than it is because it validates your position.

I don't think all of the other posters here are doing that. I do believe that there is a vocal minority of the community that tends towards that, though. Odd how many people seem to assume that it is themselves then get mad at me for it.

Abuse as in "use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse", yes I think it would be abusive. Moderating the community should be done through much better, more calculated means.
Yes, you have posted in this thread. My point stands. If anything, it is made stronger.

Good to know.
Moderating the community should be done in a better way than releasing a product that might offend a vocal minority within it? Do tell us how you think that is abusive.
I mean, yeah, it is good to know, as good to know as you stating that you've posted.
This is very circular. Do you have a point? Is there a different lingua franca we could be using to communicate this more accurately? I generally mostly know English, but I could try a different dialect of it.
So you're saying that there was in fact at least one conspiracy discussed here? Hmmmm
I'm saying that using the unrealistic theory of MTGS' resident conspiracy theorist (no offense, CSJ, but you did once claim that we need to get more concerned about EMPs) isn't solid ground to build much of an argument. Much ado about nothing, as I said.
I don't think all of the other posters here are doing that. I do believe that there is a vocal minority of the community that tends towards that, though.
If you say so, I don't really see it. If anything, you and Cranky seems to be the vocal minority behaving in tiresome ways. I'm honestly unsure what you're hoping to achieve here, it just seems like you're trolling at this point.

So yes, there was a conspiracy posted? And somehow, of the people who've taken issue with me mentioning it, the person who posted it isn't one of them? Seems like much ado about nothing lol
Wait, you're claiming that the only vocal minority are the two people with an opinion that doesn't reflect the general user of a small, niche fan site? I'm not sure you are understanding the words we are using.
How am I trolling?
What exactly are any of us trying to achieve on a backwater Magic the Gathering site? I wasn't aware there was anything to achieve here.

Okay well you say that happened to you and maybe it did, idk. But my examples were taken from just this page of this thread. So please, keep it civil. You don't need to be nasty to us because someone else hurt you.
Which conspiracies are those?
You're the third person I've asked this now. Who are these entitled people? None of you who talk about this can explain any of it.
I seriously doubt that and even if you have by one person that doesn't mean the entire player base is like that.
Not seeing any of that entitlement nor whining. Seems like you have issue with people finding all of the faults in something you enjoy.
Unless people are willing to make poor life/financial decisions, which tends to be a narcisisstic behaviour that leads to whining in public spaces (such as shops or forums) that not enough people are celebrating their purchase... oh, wait...

That's what you think other posters here are doing?

So you're saying that there was in fact at least one conspiracy discussed here? Hmmmm
I don't think all of the other posters here are doing that. I do believe that there is a vocal minority of the community that tends towards that, though. Odd how many people seem to assume that it is themselves then get mad at me for it.

Yes, certainly not in the sense you were describing
Abuse as in "use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse", yes I think it would be abusive. Moderating the community should be done through much better, more calculated means.
Good to know.

I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad

Moderating the community should be done in a better way than releasing a product that might offend a vocal minority within it? Do tell us how you think that is abusive.
I mean, yeah, it is good to know, as good to know as you stating that you've posted.
This is very circular. Do you have a point? Is there a different lingua franca we could be using to communicate this more accurately? I generally mostly know English, but I could try a different dialect of it.

I'm saying that using the unrealistic theory of MTGS' resident conspiracy theorist (no offense, CSJ, but you did once claim that we need to get more concerned about EMPs) isn't solid ground to build much of an argument. Much ado about nothing, as I said.
