What I find fascinating is that these are essentially a new set of ante cards. I remember back in the day I play with you but not for Ante, nowadays will be I play with you but not with the Walking Dead.

For the great Miss Y!
Have we talked about how there was a secret extra card yet?
Yeah, it comes with lucille. An equipment card.
It wasnt revealed anywhere and was apparently discovered through mtgo.
Lets talk about that.
Now it means you should also buy every single lair because who knows what other card will pop up to be included. Maybe its something busted. Maybe it synergizes really well with your deck, who knows! It could even be a boat! Buy it now just in case because you'll never get it again!
Lets also talk about how the vast majority of people ive seen who actually bought this flaming mistake did so expressly as an investment and not to use. So did they need to be mechanically unique or legal? Is that sales data that should be claimed as a success?
Then theres the marketing tactic they made expressly clear saying that theyd never print these again. Like they specifically put that in the marketing. to exploit fomo. It also makes their statements on reprinting them with magic names/art feel really duplicitous.
That thing is kinda of playable, not that good but if people wants to make a point and play one or more in legacy than this equipment could be the offender.

Its Legendary, so multiples are less good. Equip 4 is a little high, but Stoneforge does exist.
Ok, if there's anyone here who isn't consumed by the hate...
The page states you can pre-order now, but if I click on anything, I get a pop-up:
"We'll be revealing the full contents of Secret Lair X The Walking Dead during a very special episode of Talking Dead on October 4 beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT, but that doesn't mean there won't be exciting reveals around the internet in the days leading up to the big show. Follow MTGSecretLair to make sure you don't miss a thing!"
Which is the same pop-up I got days ago...
No way to get in?
EDIT: Ok, I managed to get in via Twitter and going to the SL site from there...

Exactly.
This card is cute, balanced, legendary, and can only be played in black but likely won't be good enough for legacy (I'd rather play jitte any day of the week), so there will certainly be enough in circulation for those who want it, especially because not everyone even plays black to begin with, and stores will order a lot of this product to chop up for resale.
As a Commander player, this annoys me much less than the new swords printed in Modern Horizons which fit into many more decks, and will become much more scarce on the open market than this over time unless reprinted frequently enough to keep up. Just look at how high the swords are which just got reprinted in Double Masters! Regardless, I suspect this, like the other cards in this not so secretive of a lair anymore, will also be reprinted soon with their Magic counterpart names. In the interim, we just have to wait and remain calm and optimistic.

So, what does this have to do with Stoneforge Mystic? Yes, it gives you a tutor for it but we can already do that for cheaper. Yes, it'll let you put it onto the battlefield for 1W instead of 1B and gives you a creature you can equip with it, but you're talking 8 mana split over two turns for this. Batterskull was good with stoneforge because it gave you a creature the equipment was already equipped to. Now, Stonehewer Giant gets around those problems, but why wouldn't you want Colossus Hammer, Argentum Armor, even Batterskull over this? I mean it's a cute card I'd like to slide into a commander deck occasionally because I like the flavor, but I see no reason why it's powerful. Now, it is powerful enough for me to enjoy since it does something I'd like to do at a decent enough rate, but just like the other cards, I see absolutely nothing to be worried about. We're talking formats with every Magic card ever printed. Cards either have to cost less mana or do something you can't do with other cards to be competitive.

You're right, I was mixing up stoneforge's ability with an auto-attach for some reason.

Yup. If you already have Hammer of Nazahn in play and this enters, things become slightly dangerous
Yeah those tokens are siiiiiiiick I'm probably giving the characters away to friends, keeping Lucille because that ***** is hilarious, and only really using the tokens.
Yes its one event, so its still fairly early to really tell, but... well when concern after concern becomes legitimized maybe its time to rethink this cross over decision rather than just telling us we'll love it and theres plenty to buy.
Couldn't help but wonder If Wizards of the Coast actually paid each member of the Rules Committee not to ban the Walking Dead Secret Lair cards. As crazy as it sounds I can't rule out the possibility of this happening. Imagine If you were one of those members in the Rules Committee and Wizards of the Coast pays you to be quiet when the only two things on the line is your reputation and the overall health of the EDH / Commander format. What would you do in that kind of scenario?

I doubt money changed hands. Rules committee didn't ban Mana Crypt for how hard it was to come by before its first reprinting. As much as I would have liked them to do so it really isn't a surprise they weren't banned.

Yeah I think it was more of an availability issue rather than a power creep issue.

I'm not sure that money changed hands directly. But it's possible the RC was profiting off of their decision to rubber stamp anything Hasbro wants to do to the players. Jobs, interview fees, merchandise, playing Magic: The Stock Market, are all some of the ways RC members could profit from selling the community's integrity for access in the corporation.
I don't know that any of this is happening but other people with power and access have been known to profit off of their positions and I would prefer if the entity running Commander had transparency and ways to prove that they were on the up and up instead of just having to just trust a company employee and fellow committee members that they are ethically distancing themselves. I really hope none of this is true but even just having to wonder is doing a number on me and at this time discouraging me from spending more money on the game.

There was even an assumption that the Rules Committee tried to profit off of the EDH / Commander Banned List as a way to take advantage of the Secondary Market for Paper Magic ever since the format's inception by making themselves rich. So far there's no real evidence to suggest that this actually took place behind closed doors. I remember a YouTuber a few years ago mentioning something about it before he deleted his channel out of disgust for the format with how his playgroup mistreated him and how he felt betrayed by the Rules Committee and Wizards of the Coast.

There are much less controversial things that Wizards can force the RC to do if money is really involved in these types of things. Changing the hybrid mana rule, for example, is something that would cause so much less backlash, and may even be welcomed by some sections of the community. If Wizards couldn't do anything then, they can't do it now.
