I had completely forgotten about "The List" until just now and I'm not really seeing the point of it, then again I don't really understand the point of the set booster to begin with. Four different boosters, two of them are not any better nor all that different from draft boosters, and the final one is just ripping you off by asking you to pay $25 for Standard cards, but at the very least you are getting something different from them with different art.
I'll probably end up buying two or three of these to give them a shot, but after that I'm going to stick to draft packs and singles.
You're looking at this wrong. The pack has a dedicated token slot, but sometimes you get one of these instead. Its a surprise bonus, not something you're getting shafted of if you don't open it, just like foils in regular sets.
I'd much rather open up a token than many of those cards.
any gimmick to sell this flaming trash pile of a set i suppose.
would've been nice if they put effort into it to sell it on its own merit, and included relevant reprints in it as normal, dedicating more effort to balancing standard where necessary but sure i guess lets go with a gimmick instead
its a nice list... but its also a real *****ty list with no real theme or cohesion to anything. you can get an absurdly priced scroll rack, or you know, argothian scion. so we get a reduced chance to pull something from the list, and then an even further reduced chance to pull something of meaningful value from the list on top of that.
gotta keep them gambling away their dollars.
i'm just so absolutely over this FOMO gambling bull*****.
one of the rare times i will agree with a poster on this board.
This set is incredibly bad. BUT I think this is really really good for magic. We've reached a point where the power level was too high and needed to be reset (for standard at least). So it's just growing pains and I'm glad it finally happened.
Also any additional bonus from buying this thing is welcomed. Sure, you are unlikely to get anything good but at least there's a chance.
Also I would think the expeditions are what was added to sell the set more than anything else.
'"The List" has commons, uncommons, rares, and mythic rares which will fall at the proper rate to one another.' from https://mtg.gamepedia.com/The_List .
What the f*ck does that even mean?
It means it's even worse than anticipated. It means that in your 1/6 (or is 1/4?) of boosters, you do *not* have a 1/300 to get a pact of negation. It means the ratio to open a card once it is not a token, comes out as if there 20 of each common for each 6 of an uncommon, for each 2 of a given rare, for each singular mythic.
I know why they're doing it, and I know many will disapprove of what I am going to say, but I really wish they would reprint the cards in the new border instead of their original, outdated border. I prefer the game to have updated consistency in appearance.
Cards like Scroll Rack and Training Grounds need legit accessible reprints...
Well 1 in 4 is better than 1 in 6.
It sucks that this is a gimmick but I actually like it alot. The Art variants and just randomness of old and new is something I just enjoy.

The problem is the “junk” factor ruins the “extra” factor. To get a standard common as a 1/6, is like being handed a used tissue. More effort to get rid of then value. It didn’t need for every card to be $5 card. But bring back “ok” commons no longer in standard versus draft chaff. Also weird to Print 1/2 or 1/3 of card groups. Helm only means other two pieces harder to get.
The idea is good, but would be better to cut list to 100, and make it 1/12 odds so you enjoy getting it.
"Found in Set Boosters, cards from The List will appear in the final slot of the pack about 25% of the time."
There are more but I would be very happy to get any of these
The 1 out of 6 chance to replace the pesky advertisment is the real annoying part.
The actual idea of "The List" to pack a bunch of reprints in REGULAR booster packs (or just ANY product they sell) would be amazing, as it would be a welcome nice extra for anything you spend money on.
But instead they make it rare, only for the set-packs which are not relevant for draft anyway and they produce just more different product that nobody in their right mind would all buy.
----
WotC just does too much random product, WAY WAY too much.
Just sell booster packs, thats all people really need and put useful stuff in these packs.
----
If you pull a sweet old card that you can actually use for a Commander deck or something thats just old-school easter-egg like joke, COOL, all for that experience.
But making it stupendously rare and only in the set-packs is just utterly idiotic execution of this idea.

Honestly, I think that's all they needed to sell the set if you could find them in draft packs.
It means it's even worse than anticipated. It means that in your 1/6 (or is 1/4?) of boosters, you do *not* have a 1/300 to get a pact of negation. So instead of being 1/1800 of getting food chain, it is 1/6 * 1/300 * 2/29. That means you'll open a lot of muscle sliver for each monastery mentor.
is that sheet the actual artwork used for the list ? like will we have the alternate versions for cards like brazen borrower

Cards I still want to see created:
|| Olantin, Lost City || Pavios and Thanasis || Choryu ||
If I'm paying $1000 for my $100 bill you bet your ass I'll complain if it isn't pristine.
