Verazol, the Forking Stream XGU
Legendary Creature - Serpent
Verazol enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter for each mana used to cast it.
Whenever you cast a kicked spilled, you may remove two +1/+1 counters from Verazol. If you do, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for that copy.(Copies made of permanent spells become tokens).
I didn't expect a kicker legend, or a legendary Serpent. Let's hope this one doesn't do hprrific things to Standard like the other legendary Serpent.
There's still more support in Gruul than in Simic for Kicker, but w/e.
Don't understand why they have to make it have a counters interaction - it's so arbitrary since all you'll be doing is taking them off the thing. That's kinda what this is like - it's a snake planeswalker, that's what it is.
WOOT the second permanent copying spell. I am very happy they are finally mining this space. Also awesome use of the commander mana scaling effect on a standard card.
Is this and the previous card enough kicker support for a deck or does it need ramp/mana reduction?

So is this just X = the amount of mana you spent or X = the amount of mana from different colors you spent? If it's the former I like it - a lower-powered, but OK legend. If it's the latter though, ugh…

Indeed the former. You can cast it for BG with X=0 and it will be a 2/2. Also, as stated above, paying Commander Tax also means it gets +2/+2 for each time.
Wow, this is a huge kicker payoff! I wasn't necessarily expecting it, but them giving us a "kicker matters" legend makes sense. Definitely could be a fund build-around.

I do like it and kicker is requested but bad news R missing
It's an interesting build-around-me Commander, but really should have been URG. A bit of counter manipulation can easily make this a repeatable source of kicked spell doubling, and GU certainly has counter manipulation to spare. An Inexorable Tide functionally halves the counter cost, Deepglow Skate does its thing, Primal Vigor will also double the copied permanents, your options are fairly wide. It's a fun card, though I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze competitively outside of maybe Commander.

In this case I really like it as a commander for groups with lower power levels. Getting two kicked Mold Shamblers, Thieving Skydivers or Rite of Replication for the price of ine is very nice, and between the multitude of counter and token support cards, you should be able to build decent synergies.
Honestly I like this because its not ANOTHER super busted Simic commander. Makes it easier to make a simic deck that isnt just going to steam roll my more casual EDH friends.

plus from this set, the blue and green inscriptions, field research, roost of drakes, thieving skydiver, cragplate baloth, murasa sproutling, vastwood surge, skyclave relic, and myriad construct. Add in the typical green ramp (maybe more than usual), some card draw and interaction, and a few more cards that care about or add +1/+1 counters, and you've got yourself a nice little simic kicker deck.

Narrow kicker focus
This whole set feels like dashed hopes for me honestly

Kicker is just so narrow even still. It also shouldve been 3 colors to gain more traction.
The counters part does indeed feel tacted on but lolhydra i guess.
This and Hallar, the Firefletcher being mutually exclusive makes me go "whuuu?".
Also: on first read I thought Varolz was in this set.

Hallar, the Firefletcher is why
But here's the great news about this legend it is great in the command zone
It has the same wording as Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
”amount of mana spent to cast it”
So it will get counters from command tax too
Archatmos
Excellion
Fracture: Israfiel (WBR), Wujal (URG), Valedon (GUB), Amduat (BGW), Paladris (RWU)
Collision (Set Two of the Fracture Block)
Quest for the Forsaken (Set Two of the Excellion Block)
Katingal: Plane of Chains
Also this is one the first time (in the top of my head) that they allowed to copy a creature spell lol
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun WU Unblockable Mirror Trickery
Ra's al Ghul (Sidar Kondo) and Face-Down Ninjas

More options for your kicker decks. Unless they go five-color there is really nothing stopping them to challenge you a bit.
Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."

I mean, if your goal is to be underwhelmed (or underwhelming) there's always Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle.

Problem is, most of the kicker cards (even the old ones, like all of them) are just not good and kicker is usually just not worth the mana or cost.
If this could copy any spell, well that would be hilariously OP.
