Email notification went out, informing of a new Secret Lair going on sale on Aug 26th. Cards included are Dig Through Time, Lightning Greaves, Rest In Peace, and Ancient Grudge, all with funny/cute pics of dogs.
Edit: This will be available in both foil and non-foil versions, according to the email.
I might be interested in that Dig Through Time foil single, but I’m leaning towards sticking with the original art, they’re still cheap enough so I don’t have to worry about it.
Hard pass, this should have been $10 and $20 each respectively.
Lets be real, these could come in their own "booster" product and that would be a stretch for the price tag.
----
I wouldnt take these cards as a gift, the artwork is insulting, like some horrible bad alters of cards (which can hardly be excused as "that was my first try").
----
Some people will buy these no question.
As no matter what, people buy literally everything in these days.
Thumbs down. Will not purchase. I like the art theme but the price is just unrealistic. $10 Max. I don't think people are going to keep being fooled by the allure of secret lairs. There is a very clear lack of interest and product glut. Every time I talk to my magic friends they are annoyed by wizards product explosion. Store owners I talk to are annoyed too. Wizards you are printing too much! That's the constant consensus.
MaRo on his Tumblr account recently said Secret Lair are selling very well. That’s why we have dog themed artwork now. I personally like this product line because Secret Lair would really be the only avenue I have of getting alternative art work on certain sought after cards that otherwise would piss off most gamers in any other kind of release.

Personal experience is an ok starting point but you really need to look outside that small bubble. You’ll find that your small bubble isn’t at all representative of the larger audience. Once you realize this you’ll understand why these groups keep doing things that are counter to your local experience but representative of the whole.
hmm... i guess you could play them in a Rin and Seri, Inseparable deck just cause of flavor (besides the dig through time), but still i think this is way to overpriced. but we already know that there are plenty of people who have no problem of paying more or getting scammed. those people are usually just quiet in forums like this. if it makes them happy, fine. for me its just sad that wizards gets away with this... 30$ for 4 printed mediocre cards... magic has come a far way
I am a cat person. I do not like dogs. However, as OMG Kitties exists, the existence of this product is entirely fair. Furthermore, for the most part, it has much better cards in it than OMG Kitties, and I like that instead of choosing "Creature - Dog" they choose some really good stuff and made it humorously dog themed.
Now looking forward to finding out if The Professor cringes as much at this one as he did at OMG Kitties.

You can simply let an artist make you alters.
Costs you pretty much the same to commission them yourself and you get a UNIQUE piece of art, instead of this mass produced junk.
Think I might buy this one... It's a little expensive for four cards that have all seen plenty of reprinting, though, so I don't know. Do dogs react that way to mirrors? I have cats that all react in different ways to reflections of themselves, because they're varying levels of stupid.

Then you run the risk of having non-legal cards at an event, supposing that's your jam. It's also entirely possible that people, I dunno, actually enjoy these products and find the investment worthwhile.

I’m not going to play with non-official cards in a certain deck I’ve built.

An alter is an original card, people use to paint over the borders to make it full-art or add some effects.
If the entire cards art is completely painted over, including the text-box, well thats just destroying the card entirely.

But otherwise you get pretty much the same result as you want, you can Dog-Theme all your cards that way, in a unique way, should be much better than buying into any of these, which are neither unique nor worth the money.

since those will be foil you still run the same risk since no judge will allow sleeved pringles in your deck.
i have never seen alters being a problem on a tournament if they were done by someone who knows what is doing and was a few times in trouble due to foils refusing to remain flat. it can be of some concern in case you expect to use them in bigger tournament but seeing the theme and card selection i think this is targeted at edh crowd where this is not a concern.

I don't suppose you have a '92 Miata you could sell me?
Isamaru, Kunoros. Plenty of options at rare even for non-expensive cards.
Even if they trolled us with a new art of Ghost Hounds or something.
Seeing as they've only actually started supporting Dog tribal now, they wouldn't have much to work with, if at all. Isamaru got a reprint a month ago, and Kunoros, Hound of Athreos is still in Standard (just look at the backlash Swiftblade Vindicator got for bring a dirt-cheap card reprinted too fast).
