What's a day on MTGSalvation like without the lovely sound of its visitors saying REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Supposedly Marvel is implementing a $200 booster for their products. I wouldn't be surprised if WOTC follows suit as they seem to be basing their models off of the sports collectible market lately. So if you thought VIP boosters were bad...it might only just be beginning.
I think Wizards is actually basing their model off the Japanese market. Alternate arts are BIG over there, and Magic has had a hard time penetrating that market for the longest time.

There had also been a LOT of people complaining about card art being homogenized, so it's within business strategy to have promo cards with alt arts, like Secret Lairs and especially like Double Master where many box toppers were done by classic MtG artists. It's a cheap move, but understandable given the more global/electronic market, the company needs money for new strategy.
I won't buy their high-end products, but someone will, so as long as WotC makes revenue they'd continue down the path.

Sure that was supposed to be "hard time" (hello Freud)... or a joke?
Regardless, as long as no tournament relevant cards pop up in there, this should be fine, no?
Might even get some nice alt art to implement in MTG Forge out of it for those like me who can't afford the physical product.
Okay that's great. That's marvel. That's not wizards, and that's not magic.
Though magic already has $100 boosters and a large portion of the playerbase is vocally opposed to that practice already.
At best this thread is baseless speculation done in an inflammatory way, at worst... well we'll see.
Just laugh about every fool spending money in this garbage.
If people really want to make Magic about the game and get it cheap, increasing the cost of product is the exact opposite of that.
And the crowd of fools still spends money on this product, to find even greater fools that pay even more in the resell.
Somebody at the end of the this Congo line of fools and idiocy pays a tremendous amount of money to buy into these products, for what ? Its the definition of price inflation.
They print the same product and charge 50 times the amount for them, minus cost, its probably more like 100 times more.
Just wake up, this is utterly insane and the game spirals into a inflation heat death, while non of these "premium" products is even remotely rare or collectable, if they sell that stuff at Walmart in flooding capacity, people scam and steal their way into this.
If you love the game, this product doesnt deserve your money, this disgusting devolution into madness has to stop and it wont if people throw money in the fire to keep the flames burning.

yes, and people can argue a large portion is happy with it.
you can go to any social media post, group, forum, youtube, or just about anywhere and see both sides that are very vocal on it. for it, or against it. the thing here though is that there are people that are voicing dissent. they do exist. as long as those people exist at all (and they're easy to find examples of) then the dissent becomes valid. its not an isolated person spouting off, its subsets of the existing community. you can't really use the logic of well some people are happy with this so those other people are wrong about this product... because well... people that aren't happy with the product DO exist. they're allowed to be.
then again, i suppose i've once again taken your obvious bait.
I consider myself a leftist who spends all-too-much time bemoaning the greed of our capitalist overlords on the internet
But I honestly think that "vote with your wallet" and "if you don't want to buy it, just don't ******* buy it" are applicable for things like alternate arts that by definition aren't necessary for tournament play

It wasn't bait, I just like to see evidence when somebody presents an opinion as fact. I tend not to lend credit to overt vocality, confirmation bias, or anecdotes in place of actual data. Was it wrong to hope there'd be something more to substantiate your claim?

Although i'm with you on being opposed to the 100$ booster crap (it's going down a dark rabbit hole...) this stuff is selling like mad. So we've given them reason to do it and to keep pushing the envelope. Because people can't make a stand on anything it seems.

I agree. This thread doesn't seem to have any reasonable purpose, since it doesn't contain any concrete information about Hasbro, WotC, or Magic.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Don't you think titling this with 'trigger warning' is a bit insensitive to those who actually serious benefit from trigger warnings because of conditions like ptsd? I know at this point trigger warnings have become a meme, but perhaps they really shouldn't be. Is it really worth it for a stupid joke?
$200 booster pack or product? Possible, and Wizards already entered that realm with VIP and Secret Lair products. Wizards could eventually just sell premium product at that price, but I would imagine the number of buyers would be smaller than it is now for Double Masters VIP boosters. At some high enough price point, the only buyers will be finance people and large stores. Would the large stores even be able to sell singles if the cost of getting them is that high?
