Is there anything about the distribution of packs if you buy a booster box? I’d be interested in picking one up as a quick way of playing magic with my kids, but would like to feel confident of getting a roughly even spread of colours and themes. I’d also hope to get 3-4 of the “rare” themes as well.

Everyone here's rejoicing and all, but where did all the "Jumpstart is a waste of money, made for dumb Timmies who like getting swindled" people go?
I never saw anyone complaining like that. I did see a lot of "this is too many products" when it was announced and "what is Jumpstart?" when the set was nearing spoiler time.

Hope this isn't considered spamming or derailing the thread, but since you ask:
The loud crowd of people hating on a product and the loud crowd of people praising that product probably consist of *different* individuals. Maybe I misunderstood you, but this seems to be you making the argument that the same people flip-flop on their stance. If I'm wrong, I apologize. If I'm right, I'll need to see examples of specific individuals bashing JMP as a whole as well as lauding it.

Usually the full set thread would have people saying the set is okay, and some very loud voices on how it's a pile of trash, that Magic is dying, etc. Now I realize this was dropped on the weekend, so there may be less voices until Monday, and that we do have complaints about there only being 1 theme basic per pack, but these aren't like the announcement thread.

I would assume that:
1) packs are sorted as RarePacks (packs with a normal rare) and MythicPacks (packs with a Mythic rare)(about 18 MR possible packs Edit: About 25 MR packs)
2) For disribution it would follow the Master set distribution, soo about 3 to 4 MR packs in a box
3) there would not be a complete distribution of packs/colors, i bet a 3 colored deck ( 3 packs of diferent colors) would play well with the tap dual + 8 basics of each type.

You do usually see that, yes, but with that announcement thread I'm still really only seeing some "this is neat", "this could be interesting", "wallet fatigue" (I made a comment like this on that thread), and some other stuff.
I won't sing this products praises yet. The reprints are great, but I do wonder how the packs having themes will feel when opening them. When I think of the normal theme boosters we have now I do think this won't go over well, but these packs aren't $7 so maybe that will help.
I’m confused by lots of the complaints. It has been clearly listed through all of the spoilers this week that each pack only has one of its special land and I’m pretty sure the news has been out even longer. That isn’t news at this point.
It might not be the latest news, but that doesn't invalidate the complaint. The themed basics are among the most notable features of this set (of course not for everyone, but overall they are a selling point) and they are making them a lot rarer than one would expect (without explicitly looking up the numbers) for no real reason.
It would even improve the feeling of the decks when opened and played as intended to have all fitting lands instead of a single one that you might even draw once in a while...
If they really wanted to create chaseable basics, using 7 regular themed lands plus one foil/full art per booster (as suggested above) would have been a far better option for everyone imo.
I guess that I can understand the complaint. People want something that wizards had the means to give them and they are only being drip-fed something exciting instead of taking the Guild Deck approach (where all basics in the guild decks had the guild treatment).
With that said, I am basically of the opposite opinion in regards to this. For every EDH player willing to dish out to have all angel plains, for example, a ton of baneslayer angel cards are going to be entering into circulation... which will help drive down the cost of the cards in this set and help out a whole lot of players.
When Tolarian Community College reviewed the Godzilla Lands Secret Lair Drop (which sold a single set of lands for $6 each, likely more than what most of these will go for), the Professor reported that this sort of scarcity item, serving as bling to players that really want it without being essential for any deck (as everyone already has basic lands) is an excellent model. I am inclined to agree with this perspective and think that it is great... especially when combined with $4 set that packs in a number of high-price reprints and a number of interesting new cards for commander... and this product gives a (somewhat) novel play experience... and introduces a huge array of cards to Historic if you aren't playing paper MTG.
Even if the complaint is valid, I don't personally agree with the point made. While this system sucks for people who only want the basic lands, I see the product as largely positive.
I completely agree
My issue still remains with the model for distribution. I imagine itll end up like conspiracy, the hot commander precon every year, arch enemy, planechase, battlebond... any supplemental product really, where if you didnt preorder or snag it week 1 you will never find it again, and if by chance you do expect to pay double.
That model needs to go away.
The pack contents work out great here, its the actual product availability that ends up being the problem every time they release supplemental stuff
Overall I think that the design of the set is unique, and i think it will be fairly fun to play. It provides you with the synergy that some regular events don't provide without some luck and careful consideration and knowledge of themes, while also keeping the random factor.
I'll give wizards a pass on this one if some things don't perfectly align, because it is their first attempt on it.
I'm hoping these packs are no more than regular priced packs though. I wouldn't pay over 5$ for these more than once.
Those are individual store listings. This product will be 100$ you can find it lots of places from 90-100$ even post full set spoilers. This is a pretty well planned and priced set. 4-5$ a pack is where this will land because the reprints aren’t in every single pack and aren’t like mystery boosters.
