either i'm winning on the spot with lab man/jace/thassa's oracle or i'm losing from drawing while there's no cards. the **** is a 10/10 gonna do for me?
his draw ability though, that's ******* great in edh... just not at that casting cost.
i will never say no to more rhystic studies, i'm starting to run out of them.

She replaces you losing with making her bigger. As long as she’s in play you can’t lose to being decked. Much like Underrealm Lich

I think that ability can close out a game. Activate his ability, put 25 counters on him, kill someone with commander damage? You presume it's late game and that for some reason you dont have lab man/jace/oracle.

oh, i missed the word instead. thanks for pointing that out i'd have never seen it.
regardless... the **** is a 10/10 (or greater) doing for me that i can't already do by just winning outright? its not like i'm going to leveler my library and rely solely on a combat damage, so i'm almost always going to have my library in my hand allowing me to win on the spot

Good catch. I also missed the fact that it’s a replacement ability - too early and no coffee are bad for reading comprehension.

This may be shocking information, but not all decks are built to win on the spot when they draw their whole library. Especially in a more casual setting, or say a randomized enviroment where you mix two packs of 20 cards together to make a deck. Ormos also lets you build a lab maniac deck in EDH that wins "fairly" through combat damage. That will probably be of interest to some people.

I mean it may not be good but some sort of janky ass self mill voltron deck could be pretty amusing.
The card is really bad in any format that isnt multiplayer.
It was really terrible in limited , as the opponent will just pay the mana and your card does basically nothing.
The card shines in pretty specific formats, but it doesnt do anything that makes it "rare", especially not if you want to "balance" the cards powerlevel for limited.
Is there a good reason for jumping the rarity of Study from common to rare? I am sure even uncommon would have been ok
Since it's only in one of the packs (that we know of), it's actually more of a mythic rare. It's a sought after reprint, so changing the rarity (that was first decided on waaaaay back, and would never see print at that rarity today) is just an acknowledgement of its nature.

THe issue is... the reason Lab Man/Jace/Thassa are the way they are is because that gameplan is SUPER risky....
You already run the risk of getting blown out by a single removal spell with Lab Man or Jace, but this creature pretty much requires you not only take risk but ALSO risk having to go into combat? The only way this wont be a total backfire is if you can reliably get in for a 1 shot kill which... isnt much different than winning with Lab Man...

If you are having trouble understanding why someone would run Ormos, Archive Keeper as their main win-con over Thassa's Oracle / Labman / Jace, you might just be a Johnny with Spike tendencies. This is for Timmy with Johnny tendencies. The difference is "Do you like playing solitaire or an actual 4-player game?"
Or for the simple fact that you then have a 4th level of redundancy - that exists in your command zone for a win condition. You can now self mill without being afraid of hitting all your wincons
I dream of the day that I can justify buying Rhystic Study. I hope this is the start of it being reprinted periodically so I can pick one up for less than $40 (if I can ever actually find one).

Can't wait to hear the excuses of "its insurance in case Ormos gets blown up" when its really just another boring labman deck that tries to win through solitaire and rarely plays Ormos.

I have a mono blue Legends deck I plan to play it in.
And Read the Runes as well for a reprint
What is going on here!? Jumpstart and core 2021 is like they stole every reprint in commander legends
Almost scared for sec there ormos was almost a laboratory maniac on a legendary
