Can't believe Belbe still hasn't gotten a card. And there's such great artwork of hers by Mark Zug out there just waiting to be put on a card for her...
• A character with a Vanguard card and a legendary creature card gets a second of the latter.
Urza,Mishra or Barrin
Hang on a minute I believe there’s a problem with Urza (this is for everyone)
Might be a trap because I just remembered blind seer is Urza and knowing them they would count Urza as getting two creature cards so Urza may not qualify due to that
I’m the biggest counterspell supporter ever. Like since it wasn’t printed in 8th edition and never entered modern, I never played extended or modern again. But I doubt they’ll ever give it to us. My money is on lightning bolt atleast, probably not birds. Unless it’s to help push the secret lairs??
I also think we’ll get a mishra reprint
Ugin reprint
And hopefully a fae walker from lowryn.
And maro did mention he wanted this and a playtest card hinted this
A character with a Vanguard card and a legendary creature card gets a second of the latter.
It's one or the other
The only two vanguards that have one legendary creature card and only 1 version of each and have a connection with teferi (friends and fought the phyrexians)
A card with thirty-one different options
”chose one or more” 5 options to chose from biggest theory is color or Casualties of War esque card
A card that gains all activated abilities of a certain subset of cards in a place it's never done it before.
That would be hand or sideboard hand more likely for edh players and probably ”play with your hand revealed”
A card that uses a nonevergreen named ability over twenty years old.
”Phasing”
Teferis signature move and introduced in mirage which was 24 years ago
A nonevergreen enchantment subtype returns
Shrines all 5 were added to historic on mtg arena I'm probably more to make them even better
A popular character first introduced in flavor text.
Another push for mishra is his original printing is sooo bad in edh. It’s literally a one trick pony. They already gave yawgmoth and urza insanely powerful versions, so it’s his turn. Maybe not grixis this time, but who knows
I don’t follow this logic. If spoilers start this Friday, these cards would be spoiled when it’s practically too late to get those secret lairs... assuming that they are even spoiled on the first day.
Spoiling that they are in the set and then having the lairs come out would be an excellent promotion. This is practically the opposite.
Yeah as I posted I thought thay. However him saying it the way he did a week before the secret lairs alone could push people to buy them off spec alone.
But yeah not correlated probably. Your logic is correct ha
Unless Maro is being very loose with "tournament played" there really isn't much on that list that would be an interesting reprint. Most the other playable stuff is either printed all the time like Negate or just no chance it's getting reprinted like Dark Ritual. You could maybe buy Wrath of God if it wasn't for the regeneration clause. You also have a feeling like this Core Set will be used to put cards into Pioneer that they want in the format, from that point of view Birds and Bolt probably make most sense.
I am also feeling Azusa for the Human Monk. The prowess cards make no sense unless prowess is otherwise in the set. The only thing slightly putting this down is that then this would feel a really pushed Core set, but then again Core sets normally sell relatively poorly so maybe you have put to push it hard to sell it.
Can't believe Belbe still hasn't gotten a card. And there's such great artwork of hers by Mark Zug out there just waiting to be put on a card for her...
Commander Legends, I expect at least 50-60% of important characters that never got a card to get one, but its nice that M21 is "based" on old-lore, they should use core-sets to give us old lore characters too
Sliver Queen is a real possibility for the Vanguard Legend.
She is the most iconic Sliver, she can't be reprinted, and I would bet that there is a Sliver Jumpstart pack.

For the great Miss Y!
Went through the full list before skimming the thread; apologies if I missed something someone said. I also haven't followed any other leaks or rumors lately, so may be offbase.
• A brand new planeswalker (from a plane we’ve visited)
- I'm guessing they're from Zendikar, as a teaser for the fall set and/or because they there wasn't enough Planewalker slots in Zendikar Resurgance.
• A card that lets you draw half of your library.
- Mostly jk: "Search your library for 2 cards with different names, exile the rest, then put those cards back on top in a random order. Draw a card."
• A +1/+1 tribal lord for a creature type that’s never had one. (A creature type with over fifty cards already in print.)
-I like the hound discussion but Spider's also passed the 50 mark and lordless.
• A character with a Vanguard card and a legendary creature card gets a second of the latter.
Possibilities are: Karn, Maraxus, Barrin, Hanna, Orim, Selenia, Starke, Eladamri, Rofellos, Sidar Kondo, Silver Queen, Mishra, Tawnos, Urza, Xantch. I expect Eladamri or Refellos.
• A card with thirty-one different options.
My idea was single color and non-land permanent type, which is 5x6=30 options, with something like cycling as the 31th. I much prefer the simple "choose any combination of up to 5 colors" suggestion.
• A card that gains all activated abilities of a certain subset of cards in a place it’s never done it before.
I think it has to be hand, e.g. "Play with your hand revealed. ~ has all activated abilities of cards in your hand." Sideboard fits the description but is awkward in Sealed and does nothing in Commander (which isn't an actual problem, except they've been trying to support that format more and more).
• A card that uses a nonevergreen named ability over twenty years old.
Some possibilities: Phasing, Landwalk, Rampage, Shadow, Fear (the ability is 20+ years old even though the name is not). Phasing seems likely, maybe in Mythic Teferi's Ult. I could also see Landwalk on a rare creature.
• A card with the words “battlefield”, “cast”, “creature”, “converted mana cost”, “end of turn”, “exile”, “graveyard” and “mana cost”.
Simplest design I could think of that fits:
"You may cast ~ as though it had flash if <something>
Return target creature card with converted mana cost X from your graveyard to the battlefield. It gains haste until end of turn. Exile it at end of turn or if it would leave the battleflied."
• An aura inspired from a cycle from Urza’s Sagablock
Either the "Return to hand" cycle or the "2, sac: draw" cycle. I suspect the former.
• A nonevergreen enchantment subtype returns
Pretty easy Shrine over Saga or Cartouche, imo.
• A popular character first introduced in flavor text. Saffi Eriksdotter was my first thought but "popular" makes me think it's Fblthp, the Lost. Didn't know about Ugin/Ghostfire until reading the thread: Khan's Ugin might be too strong and War to recent/complex with the static, though.
• A card with a unique protection.
Only options I could find were Mistmeadow Skulk (Pro cmc3+) or Baneslayer Angel (Pro demons). Pro Enchant, Pro Everything, and Pro Instants have all been used multiple times, unless Maro missed/didn't count one of those.
• Two cards played in tournaments that have been reprinted over twenty times with at least five different pieces of art
I guess only two of the five basic lands are in the set
Any two of Unsummon, Llanowar Elves and Giant Growth are likely, more so imo than Lightning Bolt and Birds of Paradise. Remember that there are limited tournaments as well (or used to be :frown:), so "played in tournaments" is a pretty weak restriction.
• A card that’s never previously appeared in a premier set.
Rather open ended, I suspect a commander staple over e.g. something from MH1. Thought Vessel feels like a core set card, Patron of the Vein is a nice Vampire Lord, Song of the Dryads answers Theros Gods, Primal Vigor would help sell the set.
• A card that’s never been reprinted before which has a 2, 3, 5 and 6 all appear on the card. Massacre Wurm fits, but I think Xathrid Gorgon is more likely.
Sliver Queen is a real possibility for the Vanguard Legend.
She is the most iconic Sliver, she can't be reprinted, and I would bet that there is a Sliver Jumpstart pack.
They would have to add a sliver theme if the Queen was here that's why I didn’t say her
Also they definitely don’t fit the ”never got a lord +1/+1” teaser slivers got lots of them
• A character with a Vanguard card and a legendary creature card gets a second of the latter.
Urza,Mishra or Barrin
Hang on a minute I believe there’s a problem with Urza (this is for everyone)
Might be a trap because I just remembered blind seer is Urza and knowing them they would count Urza as getting two creature cards so Urza may not qualify due to that
Can't be Abbot of Keral Keep or Monastery Swiftspear as Prowess is no longer even deciduous. I guess they could bring it back, but they spent years trying to make it work as the UR creature keyword, but ultimately gave up do to complexity, flavor and metagame issues. I highly doubt they'll try again.

I don’t think AoKK suggests the return of prowess any more than the new Teferi means that phasing will play a larger role in M21.
It won't be Azusa - Green ramp is strong enough without throwing her into the mix. And she would just end up becoming a key piece that gets banned anyway.
Could be Serra Ascendant - that's been printed in Core before.
It isn’t legendary, doesn’t have prowess, doesn’t involve 3 colors, supports an archetype that wizards keeps trying to shove down our throats... and it was added to MTGA not all that long ago.

Azusa would be a good plant and much needed reprint for EDH in much the same vein Crucible of Worlds was year before last, so my thought is... maybe, verging on cautiously optimistic. Serra Ascendant would be a safe reprint for Pioneer, so I could also see that, even or especially if it doesn’t have an obvious home.

And not sure where they got it from but over here

Suposive legend for them and cat sub-theme
Oh by the way Just realized a possibility for...
Human monk
(but probably saved for from the vault coming up)
And finally get your ”dont get my hopes up like that” memes ready
counterspell has 20 printings with at least 5 different arts
I also think we’ll get a mishra reprint
Ugin reprint

That's enough reason to suspect that they're in.
Hound which is probably getting errata’d to dog

Most likely baneslayer angel
rancor is my best guess
I did some thinking I came up with two best guess’s
Are best guess’s is Birds of Paradise and lightning bolt
It's most like one of the two here since they have all 4 numbers and both only 1 printing
Three comes to mind

I have come to the conclusion of who think the van guard card could be
It's Barrin or karn
Both only 1 legendary creature card and actually have a story with him during the war of phyrexia and are friends

• A French Vanilla mythic rare.
Akroma, Angel of Wrath or Baneslayer Angel

I suspect Faith's Fetters, but could also see Curse of Opulence

Withered Wretch jumps out as a metagame brake on Escape.
