None of them are especially expert on rules. lol Mana abilities are, in fact, activated abilities. That's why so many cards that interact with activated abilities specify not mana abilities. See cards like Illusionist's Bracers to see what I mean.

Thanks man
Yep it would have said “that isn’t a mana abilities” forgot about that
Yeah no don't listen to these clowns, they're wrong as hell. Mana abilities are totally activated abilities.
Why do you think Karn, the Great Creator stops your opponents from tapping their lands for mana when Mycosynth Lattice is in play?
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
It would be a really bizarre card if it couldn't tap for mana considering that's what nearly every land in Magic does. I'm not really sure this card is all that amazing, though. Sure it's better than Manalith but the other abilities of lands are severely overcosted because they're on lands unless you count a few overpowered exceptions. It's a neat card that's going to be clutch once in a while but the rest of the time,it's Manalith.

Thing is you don't put this into decks where it's just going to be a manalith. You're putting it into decks where you will abuse it. Double up on The Cabal Coffers and the Primal Wellsprings and other powerful lands. And even if it's "just a manalith," I'd wager, there are plenty of people's metas where there are plenty of bounce lands running around making this much better than a manalith even if all it's doing is making one or two mana. I'd put this on par with Chromatic Lantern. It's probably less powerful and important in 5 color decks than Lantern but it makes up for that by being much more powerful in lower color decks where you can play more utility lands.
Yeah, it can double Coffers, but if you're mono/heavy black, you're probably already running a bunch of tutors and can easily dig out Coffers + a land that can copy Coffers. How many Coffers do you really need? It could also make a lot of mana if it copies Cradle, but from decks I've seen use it, once again, how much mana do you really need? It can be Worn Powerstone if you spot a bounceland but it's certainly not a broken card like some people have described it as. It can also sometimes become a creature like the Time Spiral artifacts people don't play or possibly blow itself up to destroy a land, but all of this is conditional on appropriate lands being on the battlefield. It's kind of like Clone, so much potential, but is kind of meh plenty of the time.

What I'm getting here is to stick it in Sen Triplets and other clone/theft decks for the ability to clone lands.
