so..... it's a repeatable effect, that throws 8/8s in the battlefield.... gets almost halfway through the counters from a single Brainstorm or Jace, The Mind Sculptor activation....
could go off instantly after wheel of fortune-ish effects.... could be pretty crazy with Teferi's Puzzle Box
this thing is certainly pretty powerful in older formats.
don't know if enough to really become a staple in anything, but surely not something to sleep on.
It might be just too slow though, even as nice a threaten-er it is. Im not sure that drawing multiple cards from one card would speed up the clock or only counting as one draw on this or not, but at minimum your looking at 3 to 4 turns before its online depending on availability of cycling and or card draw. That is a decent amount of time to respond unless you can online it immediately somehow.

this is the kind of card that I doubt could see play on standard because of lack of availability of ways to activate it quickly.
but in the right shell, it could activate pretty quickly and start dropping a ton of 8/8 monsters on old formats if you find the right combo.
it certainly can be done, question is if it can be done fast enough to make any waves at all.

but dont blue decks brainstorm early if they can? When this comes down turn 2 or 3 after a control player has filtered to the position they want, its going to be hard to rack up the draws unless you get into another brainstorm, which isnt unheard of but less likely to happen until a later part of the game. I really think jace and this is the better build around since you would get the enchantment online first then use jace for army building.

maybe,dunno.
it's not something you just throw on existing established decks and hope it works....
if it works, it will be tweaked somehow.
as most things, it probably will not.
but, well, it does have a crapton of power... so does the entire legacy/modern/vintage meta.
this thing won't make anything at all if it can't surpass the average power of the wincons for such formats, and even if you can assemble a deck that will crap 8/8s very fast it could not be enough... so, only time will tell, really.
the card, most likely will be just a swing and a miss pretty much like almost everything else.
but it's one of those cards people will try to break because power ceiling on it is simply absurd if you find the right shell for it.

Actually it could be standard...maybe. There is alot of colorless cycling costs in the new set so it could be possible in the right build. Way too early to tell of course how the meta will shake out.
We also have midnight clock and magic mirror in standard and a blue control build could help make this viable, bluvred wouldn't hate this with witching well, the new legend and Niv mizzet. I kind of think I'm in love with this set.
This card is good... and also seems like it was hand-designed for good-old Tiro.
Will happily run in Nekusar, where my bevy of wheel effects will make for many krakens.
Oh it absolutely was, and I absolutely LOVE it!
It’s so amazing that it costs only two mana. My sea monster deck needs lower curve cards, and what is great about many of the non-creature cards in that deck is that they’re actually low cmc, while the creatures themselves are high cmc, so it’s been balancing out!
The fact I can cast this nearly and get krakens out of it without sacrificing it is just remarkable! The condition is a lot easier to meet than some of my other favorite gimmicks like Quest for Ula’s Temple for example.
This is a very welcome addition to my deck that I am surprised to find came from this set! This feels like a Theros card, and I do wish it had been from Theros honestly and depicted some Theros seas. But frankly I am thrilled to have this amazing card for my Arixmethes deck. It’s going to make waves for sure.
As time goes on, my deck continues to get more and more thematic! I remember when I first built it and could barely hold the theme together. Now it genuinely feels like a true theme with cards like this!
Combos quite well with Greater Good, get a token, draw 8, make more tokens and keep drawing, should win on the spot then.
The first activation would be difficult, if we would not have a bazillion Wheel effects that conveniently draw 7.
My face literally just went when I read that. Yes, yes, DEFINITELY greater good with this to draw your deck (and get basically whatever you want into your graveyard) on the spot. Win with Thassa's oracle, Jace, lab maniac, or any of the cards you just put into your hand and/or graveyard. Wow.
This is the "remove eight foreshadow counters" cards from Maro's teaser.
this is omen counters not foreshadow
...according to an unofficial translation for a card in Korean. We don't have the official English text yet.
But we know from Maro that we have a card with the text I quoted, and the same post reveals there are 13 different counters in the set. There are 10 ability counters, +1/+1 counters and loyalty counters; no space for both "foreshadow" and "omen" counters on the set. And I wouldn't expect both be used for "remove eight counters" effects.

While I agree it's almost certainly foreshadowing, it's worth noting that there's 9 ability counters in the main set, not 10. Crystalline Giant's list has 10 counters, but that's because it's including +1/+1 counters. So there theoretically is room for both Foreshadow and Omen counters, but given the similarities in meaning, the fact that this is a translation, and such not, it's almost certainly Foreshadow counters.
this seem ok since you have to sacri...OH WAIT WHERES THE SACRIFICE PART?!?!
THATS AWESOME IT STAYS AFTER COUNTER REMOVAL!

And Scryfall agrees it is "foreshadow" counters: https://scryfall.com/card/iko/61/whats-kraken
I run a mostly creatureless Nekusar (well, no combat anyways), but this slots in pretty well into my The Locust God deck that likes permanents.
