Secret Lair Enemy Fetchlands on the otherhand, that's such a disgusting cashgrab move from WotC, but this is the WotC of the last couple years so I am not entirely surprised. At least they didn't completely bone LGSes on this one this time.
Ehh. I mean. This is just such an obvious cash grab. The fetchlands could have easily been reprinted in something. Secret Lairing them only intensifies the hunt, which is what they want. I do, however, love their art. The artists did a fine job and that is something to cherish.
Wizards: “Wizards does not recognize the secondary market”.
Also Wizards: “here’s 5 foil snow lands for $30. Here’s 5 nonfoil fetchlands for more than $165”.
GTFOH.
At prices north of $165, would it REALLY have been too much to at least get 2 sweet basics paired with each fetch of the type they could search for?
They made the effort to do each one by a different artist, and each one on a different recognizable plane, so they should have expanded upon that with each pair of basics, IE Seb does a sweet Ixilan Forest and Island.
Didn't they also say that they are going to reprint them in some non standard product this year? We have a lot of commanders deck this year and one commander draft set at the end of it. I would love them in Ikoria commander decks but I think it is too soon, them being reprinted there could hit the sales of this Secret Lair.
I’m sad. There was a big part of me that hoped we would get the enemy lands later this year.
I mean, the narrative fit so well. We would be returning to the plane that first gave us these fetches... a plane that now needs a HIGHLY compelling hook to sell cards after what happened last time... right as shocklands were marching out of standard...
In the end, though, I can’t say I’m surprised. Just disappointed.
Five new Secret Lair drops will be announced for Summer. They will be a one week long series, one drop per day, just like the very first Secret Lair drops.
Just like the first Secret Lair series, there will be an option to buy all 5 in a bundle. Doing so will also net you one of those fetches, chosen at random.
Doesn't change the fact that Scalding Tarn is still going to be through the roof.

I bought a Kaleidoscope Killers box, and I’m buying the all five Enemy Fetchlands in a box set. Given that this drops in the second half of May, it gives me plenty time to save +$200. I can’t wait, I’m pumped!
Hey Wizards, give us Secret Lairs: Slivers, and I’ll buy 5 boxes from you.
Going to be honest, I couldn't tell that was meant to be Lorwyn on Marsh Flats or Scalding Tarn was meant to be Dominaria. Verdantt Catacombs being on Innistrad is no a brainer because it had the collar of Avacyn. Same goes for Misty Rainforest on Ixalan due to the meso-american jade statue. I could somewhat see Arid Mesa being on Amonkhet, but mostly from the obelisks.
I had guessed the Marsh Flats to be on Eldraine. The background looks a lot like Bant to me, though that is the wrong colors.
Spellbook Chandra actually might be value town. If we get a Lightning Bolt in that, it will be awesome. Torch of Defiance is the best and by far the most expensive Chandra, and Past in Flames is a great card too.
The Fetchlands... Well, I guess I'll have to get them, but the price OMG. Also, couldn't you have not just done all 10 and ask, say, 200 for it?? They're not even fails!!! I mean, foils. Nice Freudian slip there, LoT!
Unconcerned about the fetchlands, these were never going to be print to demand and I expect tournament players already have their copies, so these are just "in the wild" copies.
The Chandra drop looks super sweet though, so I might pick one up if there's some cool stuff like Pyretic Ritual or other sweet Chandra cards.

No you don’t. This kind of thought process is exactly what people need to stop doing. Constantly high-fiving WotC for terrible things has done nothing good.

One of the selling points they originally gave us for The Secret Lairs boxes was they were going to showcase artists with styles that were outside the box for normal releases. Well, outside Seeing Visions and Kaleidoscope Killers, the rest are very much in line with what you’ll see in a Standard released set.
Kind of interesting they broke the cycle with the spellbooks by not using the full name Chandra Nalaar. It'll look even funnier if we got Liliana Vess instead of Last Hope or Veil.
So at least $175 for the fetchlands. That’s at least $35 per card. But they don’t even know the secondary market exists. No sir.
And they’re limiting the supply so as not to upset the secondary market price gougers. What a joke.
Labeling this as a Secret Lair drop is confusing at best, and deceptive at worst. There was at least some reason to consider it, even at that price point, as long as it was print on demand, but I'm not going to bother competing for value (and even that's dubious) if copies are limited to LGS'.
Chandra's Spellbook seems fine.

Chandra, Torch of Defiance
So basically a negligible amount of product has been reprinted.
Still, I adore all of the art from the fetch lands. Wish there was a more fair way to get that art
Definitely buying Chandra's spell book. The new card frame for her cards is dope.
