Do you have evidence to support this claim? All I see is a lot of handwringing over WotC’s new marketing or release schedule, all of it seemingly on principle. In fact, quite a few people here, amongst our local, vocal minority, are obviously happy to give many or most of these a pass. Do you see something I don’t, or are you just projecting?
while i don't have those statistics i feel its incorrect to make that the take away from the argument. its not uncommon to see people complaining about wallet fatigue, you can visibly see that - twitter, instagram, facebook, here, etc. its not uncommon to walk into a game store and hear someone talking about how they have to buy X new product. its not uncommon to see the grab and go packs at big box stores get wiped out. we all have friends that have opted out because they felt they couldn't keep up, we also all have friends that buy everything, and we have friends that don't buy anything but keep playing. people buy stuff, so i think its more important to look at WHY they're buying stuff. so when you see people complaining a set is bad, or that their wallet is hurting, or they stop showing up for events - but product is STILL selling, you have to analyze why that might be instead of just saying wotc done good, we don't have statistics so lets just assume they're doing everything right. i mean, without that data you're restricted to anecdotal evidence and observable effects, that doesn't disqualify them.
Oh, you do have data. It’s just a really small sample size: you and your friends. That’s kind of why the whole field of statistics exists, to assign meaning or relevance to that data.
So no, I don’t have friends like that. In my usual EDH playgroup three of us are teachers, one‘s a lawyer, another’s a doctor, and despite the fact that any one of us could own the Secret Lairs in their entirety, none of us do. Does my anecdotal evidence qualify as representative of the larger Magic community?
Could everyone please shut up about “virtue signaling” and all the other terms that act as a thin veil for you not liking women very much? If this product was all legendary male characters to celebrate Father’s Day or something none of you would have any issue with it.
Virtue signaling product, over priced, and keep in mind Wizards even gets a tax rebates, off of your money. Sucks to keep seeing crap like this. The other ones probably have 80% profit on them at $40 so $32 profit. They are charging $50 on this one, so $40 gross - $25 so $15 net. Let's say they get a $2.5 tax break per $25 donation. Seems a bit high. Even if they don't make the money back in tax breaks. They can make more money through shame buying. Even if it's only for a short period of time. It's a really hard gimmick to get behind when the charity "The girl scouts" is a luxury. When they could have donated money to something else that is needed. But they aren't really donating, you are if you buy this.
I might get back to the rest of stuff I wanted to say. But I broke it down enough for now. Judging from the posts above people know what this is.
You should probably go ahead and say the other stuff, since the level of assumption you just demonstrated is usually reserved for proving the existence of ancient aliens.
I mean, we KNOW they won't. lol This is WOTC we are talking about here. Not that I really care personally though anyways.
All I want is that sweet, sweet, Meren of Clan Nel Toth and Narset, Enlightened Master for my own EDH decks, and I would probably give the others away to friends and family. Assuming I even bother to get one as I am saving up for my marriage.
Lucky Joe indeed. Congrats to your upcoming marriage! If your significant other is into MtG, too, I can offer drawing a fantasy version of you à la Anax and Cymede or Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis.
So far, it doesn't seem like you have to worry about WotC or any other entertainment product company toning down on super-fit handsome men, so lucky you in that regard. More specific appreciation of same-sex couples could be expected, too, but they seem to still be rather timid in that regard. Well, Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis are a thing, but so far that's about the only explicit gay couple depiction I'm aware of. For the foreseeable future, it seems that non-binary or non-"beauty-industry"(?)-conform-female characters will receive more cards.
Either way, I hope you can still appreciate beautiful artwork of women on a purely aesthetic level, like beautiful landscapes for instance.
Oona might be female, but it seems about as odd a choice for National Women's Day as Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, considering that she's not a woman. In fact, she's always been a violently unimpressive card, and has already gotten tons of reprint love. Card carries a ten-ish dollar price tag for some reason though. Willow Priestess shenanigans? Dunno.

Well, she has been reprinted twice in 12 years, I don't know if that qualifies as "tons of reprint". Meren has already been reprinted that many times in only 5 years (not that I'm complaining). Oona also seems to be quite loved in the Commander community, so there's that.

Sorry for my possible english mistakes, I'm not a native speaker.
Woke Product. Price increase. Artwork not as good as the original cards, Saskia in particular. I suggest to people not to buy these otherwise we will continue to get this sort of thing.
Oh would you look at that, I was right last time, ty Loa. They were raising the price by raising the base cost at first until they are now just flat-out raising the price. Its so blatant in their greed its practically a comedy that writes itself.

Warriors, torch-bearers, come redeem our dreams
Shine a light upon this night of otherworldly fiends
Odin's might be your guide, divorce you from the sane
Hammer's way will have its say, rise up in their name
Scratching hag, you rake your claws, gnash your crooked teeth
You've taken slaves like ocean waves, now feel the ocean seethe

I honestly struggle to see the wokeness here. All of these women have pretty faces (subjective, I know), long hair and a fit physique. Yes, Saskia's right arm shows a huge biceps, but she still looks more feminine here than in her original art. So this could even seem a step away from the more recent wokeness pandering. Or is it supposed to be woke simply for coming out on women's day? I understand that the company is trying to cash in on social issues, but still. I mean, if all or at least some of the cards depicted an obvious animosity towards men or traditional gender depictions, I could see the point. That is not the case here, though.
So, if you hate cash grabs for being cash grabs, I get it. I just don't see this as much more of a cash grab than any other product meant to grab our cash. It's at least not as lazy as just reprinting cards with old art and then throwing in some random staples in 1 out of 1000 boosters.
Wow, they were even faster than i expected to raise the price to 50$. At least this time they are doing charity too.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Oona is an instant win-con with any of the several infinite mana combos available in her colors. She’s very popular as a competitive EDH commander, from what I’ve seen.
You guys ever watch or read the news? I find it healthy to broaden one's perspective. On any given day, I, personally, am far too emotionally spent by the world's genuine ills to come here and wax fake-mad over cardboard product I never had any intention of buying in the first place. Really, you should try it.
If you listened to the MTG Finance podcast they actually talk about this many times. People do indeed suffer from wallet fatigue and it is because many feel that they have to buy the product or theyll miss the opportunity. So although you bring a good point in that we shoulnt make decisions based on anecdotes or use anecdotes as evidence. When anecdotes are all you have and you couple that with the fact that they are observed as the norm they stop being an anecdote at that point. And if you dont believe that this wallet fatigue and just product fatigue phenomenon is the norm I recommend you just scroll through these pages, listen to the MTG Finance podcast, read comments on youtube etc etc and you will see that your experience is the anecdote and Xcric is indeed onto something in pointing out that product fatigue is a perpetual and ongoing thing possibly due to peoples lack of fiscal discipline coupled with the feeling that an opportunity will be missed.

Atleast this price increase is the purpose of charity reasons for international women day and 25% of the profits from this one go to it
So in a way it’s really only 39 again if minus 25%
I am not a huge fan of using that as justification for a price increase since it, basically, just means that *we* are donating money at the same time as Wizards reaping the rewards. Companies do it all the time, and isn't the first time Wizards has done it, so it isn't completely out of the norm. If Wizards really cared about donating, they would not have introduced a price hike to force us to subsidize their donations.
In any case, they are donating 50%, not 25% of each sale which means that technically, if you want to look at it this way, this is $25 for the product with a forced $25 donation to World Association Of Girl Guides And Girl Scouts.

Virtue signaling is a thing though.. everyone likes women, in fact no one had a problem with liliana, nissa, chandra etc etc they were beloved by the fanbase. But its been so long that WOTC has been pandering hard that now any innocent thing is seen as pandering bc people just want the regular game back to normal without all the pandering. And the fact that they have never released a legendary male characters product kind of points to this being another pandering job. If i didnt like women id say it. There's no thin veil here its just getting old at this point.

What is "back to normal"? You mean back before there was representation and a deliberate movement towards inclusivity? Being attracted to women isn't the same as liking, respecting, empathizing, or in any other capacity seeking equity for women.
Virtue signaling is a thing insofar as any made up thing is... a thing. I see no good reason to cast a negative shadow over someone's intentions just because their virtue is obvious, or deliberate. If the alternative is being inconspicuously selfish, then I'll take virtue signaling any day of the week. First, though, I think the term needs some shifting to repair its negative connotation.
This is seriously the dumbest conversation y’all are having. If you don’t want a product, don’t buy it and move along.
If you have an issue with representation you need to deal with some personal things and move along. Stop creating issues that are yours alone ha. This community man...
