How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
It’s a very simple reason I have none of the original gods besides iroas and that’s only because of the 4 color commander deck
But also value is there (these are as if non foil)
2 is worth it with Thassa 1.0 about 20$ kruphix is 10
4 is worth it since all 3 make the 39.99 (red gods)
And the auto jackpot is number 3 black with the 2 of the best ones from the original with Erebos and athreos that definatly valued above 39.99
Why would somebody say you’re not smart? If you don’t own the original gods this isn’t a bad way to get them. For a lot of us, especially the commander players, that ship has long since sailed. Don’t let our opinions sway your decision.

Have you checked the prices of the original art Gods in foil? If you bought each one in foil, as of TCG prices today, it would be ~$465 for 15 cards... or you can get cards that haven't been available or reprinted, as a newer player or a fan of the new art style for a fraction of the cost...
Your high horse sir/madam, please dismount it. These products aren't for everyone, and that's ok. You have plenty of other things to look forward to this year as far as other products go.
But reminder the stain glass war walkers are in them maybe the ones we didn’t see in the first 5 will be here like narset, karn and liliana
Unfortunately I am not in the habit of buying $40 scratch off tickets.
Just not enough bang for my buck on these. I'll let others spend their money, I'm keeping mine on this product. 4 Oubliettes for $30 and I would bite.

The 465 thing
Sorry man that’s not gonna be the value of all of these
Reaper kings are $68 in foil and sliver over lords are $87 in foil
But the bad news
Secret lair sliver overlords are only $20 and the non foils are 28$
And secret lair reaper kings are 10$ While non foils are $11
But however the scarcity spike will hit these eventually though
So the gods prices tag will be almost no different to non-foil versions based on kildescope killers

At 40 bucks, only one of them is cheaper than simply buying the existing cards. I think this product would have been a huge hit at 30 bucks a pop.
Well have I got good news for you... If you buy ALL of them, they ARE at 30 a pop!
Jokes aside, I think this product was mostly done well... In fact, if anything, it should maybe be more expensive. Right now, people who simply want a playable set of cards can buy them elsewhere, cheaper, so this drop isn't undercutting the general secondary market - while still being appealing to collectors and investors - especially the latter since this drop actually IS a giant cut on current prices! Currently, pricing out each of these cards on TCG player non-foil is $165. Selecting this same cart with foil versions of the cards yields an impressive cart of about $450. That's pretty impressive.
Keep in mind the current pricing on these cards for the comparison are comparing to regular, non-foil versions of these cards. Instead, these versions are foil, and alternate art promos. Now, everyone has their preference when it comes to foils or art, but typically these make the item have more of a premium price, rather than less.
Right now, purchasing the entire drop for $150 actually comes out positive on value for the purchaser, compared to non-premium versions of the cards - that's pretty insane. It doesn't even hold a candle to current premium copies. And this doesn't account for whether or not they decide to add any special gifts, like the stained glass planeswalkers. This drop is just bonkers. It's good enough that you could purchase the whole set and not feel bad, and probably even flip it, but not so crazy that everyone feels obligated to purchase it or miss out on a crazy deal. - I'm personally not a huge fan of the aesthetic, so I'll probably forgo this one, though I at least have a few days to consider it.
Of course, that will depend on what the resulting supply ends up being. Seeing as how one item appears to already be out of pre-printed stock (likely the Red bundle, as it has the highest current value), it seems the sales are going well, so supply may be somewhat higher than expected long term.

Of course this isn't going to be the price of these long term - but the comparison remains apt. In terms of value, this drop is coming close to the standard printing, for something that is considered more premium in nature, and will have collector value further on. This does mean that close to release, there will certainly be a greater supply, and prices should (hopefully) remain lower. However, if you were looking for a more 'premium' version of these cards - perhaps for foiling out a deck - this is by far a better deal currently than trying to actually get OG foils.
The reaper king and sliver overlord comparison is also VERY misleading. Those are some old sets, that have a much lower print run. You're comparing a print run that just happened, to printings that are 16 years old and 11 years old.
A better comparison might be the snow covered lands, which have been released more recently. Regular Ice-age snow forests are a bit over $1. Full art snow lands are .50. Foil coldsnap and foil full-arts are around $7. The secret lair Snow-forest are $14. Even that is misleading though, as there are now several sets worth of snow-lands in the wild, giving ample supply, so the only thing propping up the Secret Lair prices is not people seeking usability, but only people seeking uniqueness and scarcity. Contrastingly, this drop is aimed at both. (The Kaleidoscope set, in comparison was more for usability, as those cards had been out of print for a considerable time).
For a lair that people criticized as having one of the lowest values compared to current card prices, that one is now sitting pretty nice as an investment.

Yeah I agree that the pricing seems right, it can't be to cheap because that would hurt the secondary market and if it's to expensive people wouldn't buy it anyway. You say it might even be a bit more expensive and still be worth it but that would only be true if you live in america, anywhere else the tax is just gonna make it way to expensive, even now, I probably wont buy it because of that. How nice it would be if they made a selling point in Europe and Asia.

Some people like the bling.
Good point actually
I didn’t consider the only reason they are that high is scarcity
And just so you know the snow covered lands was still not a good one in a way people would prefer getting enough basic lands for a deck
If you spent $299.90 on (10) Eldraine Wonderland, your return on your investment would be $629.60 as of writing. (10) because that was the limit given, unless you literally made extra accounts. It is only a bad investment if you're a MTG player, not a Finance player.
Even if the value of this Secret Lair drops initially, it's still got a lot going for it:
Premium, limited release product (what? 2-3 days of availability?)
Foil
Alternate Art
New Legendary Frame
Original cards haven't been printed in some time, and at the very least, this makes it less likely that they'll show up anytime again in the near future (+ we were just in Theros)
- And that doesn't even account for something like the extra War of the Spark stained glass planeswalkers that were in previous products. If there's an additional thing in each of them, that's just MORE value to be had.
Do I personally like some of the original art better than the constellation art (ex. Xenagos)? Absolutely.
Is the current cost of purchasing the originals all in foil a daunting one, at today's prices, for new and tenured players? Yeah, I would say you could probably bet your ass it is. $465? Hard pass.
The odds of these cards going to or below the value of the original non-foils, even in the short term, is so low because of the factors I listed above. They'll hold a premium for that and because people want to pimp out their decks with shiny foils. The longer they go without a 'true' reprinting that's more widely available, the more expensive they'll become.
Kaleidoscope Killers drop was also tribal specific, where many of the Gods are generically good across a wider span of decks. They also don't require 5 colors to run, which often taxes a budget. That drop is more of a corner case exception than the rule.
Reveal of Kaledioscope Killers: "Wow guys this one has so much value for only $39.99. Just look at those existing foil prices."
Reveal of OMG! Kitties!: "Wut? Why would they give us such a low EV value secret lair for the same price as Killers? What a rip off."
Its all well and good to talk about but you also have to be able to flip things.
A lot of the new theros stuff from premium packs i see people get excited for, then try to move them and they cant. A huge portion of ftv cards just sit and rot. Most of these stand a good chance of being sold at a loss despite what paper says.
Regardless, theyre getting a ton of flak thrown at them for these products.
Okay, Flamebuster sent me his original post and here is my response to it, in case someone followed that subelement of this discussion:
Me, in response to 'buster's original post, which referred to MTGS user Tiro of Meletis:
"Haha! I believe he might have gotten a good laugh out of it. I guess I kinda get what the moderators were concerned with here, though, so yeah. Still a funny comment in my view."
His post, in my view, was on topic and a funny reference to a well known member of this community.
Wait, this one is Theros? Well don’t mind me while I be the one to bust all over this then.
AND THE BEST PART OF IT Allllllllll is Thassa, Ephara and Kruphixxxxxxx my three favorite gods all come together! But most importantly, most significant, above all else, is my darling precious dear Thassa having constellation frames for both her cards! Do I prefer the originals for all the gods? Yes. Does it matter? No because I want every version of all of them period. These are the best characters in MtG next to Jace for me and rulers of my favorite plane and they will all be had
I will protect them like my children from the horrors of this world and no one will come for my babesh
I feel that distinct pleasure of getting exactly what I wanted which is my fondest emotion in this damn world, and Theros gets me there every time my friends
honestly this game needs more Thassa cards. It’s still not enough, but I shall enjoy the salty and sweet sauce of Thassa in a cosmic bikini and nothing shall prevent me from celebrating!!! AND HERE I THOUGHT MY THEROS FUN ENDED WITH THB BUT HERE WE ARE FOLKS!!!!!
Its all well and good to talk about but you also have to be able to flip things.

Agreed again.
The whole situation reminds me of what was happening to the Baseball Card/Sportscard world in the late 1980's and early 1990's before prices imploded. I am still sitting on older cards that I bought during that time that have barely moved in price or have dropped significantly. There was a ton of artificial "scarcity" with foil this, and ultra-bling that and pieces of bats/jersey/whatever cards. I just gave up on it and so did most of the other collectors. The one thing Wizards has going for it is that you can play the cards. If paper Magic is ever killed, these products are going to tank harder than the Titanic.

The best selling ones will be ones like Eldraine Wonderland. As they are going to be the equivalent of the Guru lands in terms of expensive basic lands. Lands in general sell better than anything else because everyone needs them. Old school duals used to cost something like $4-20 now they are worth close to a thousand dollars.
Unless its a secret lair with lands, it has at best a questionable market unless its artwork centric, like cats.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Unless its a secret lair with lands, it has at best a questionable market unless its artwork centric, like cats.
