This... is perfect. When Shanna, Sisay's Legacy came out I wanted to build a token/enchantment pauper edh. This is exactly what I wished she was. Time to put a list together.
Sure, there is a chance of spending $4 on a booster and getting the Mythic Rare $30 super card. There is also a chance of surviving putting your tongue in a light socket.
Finally! Theros delivers our MTG Xena at long last!!!! And she’s beautiful with a rare worthy effect!
I also adore that she’s the character from Serpent of Yawning Depth’s flavor text. When I first read of Siona, I sighed sadly and thought “here we go, another Callaphe and Arixmethes situation.” But no! They actually delivered! Yes yes yes! Such a remarkable and amazing Legend!
I love how many legendary creatures Theros has. It is absolutely the plane for it!
Not bad at all. Aura-based decks can sometimes run into issues in that they need a bunch of Auras, but also targets for them. sometimes you draw mostly Auras, other times mostly creatures, either way it can be difficult to be consistent. I like that Siona addresses both potential issues all by herself.
Nice the amazon leader card and digging don for seven seems really power for an uncommon.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Screams from Within + a way to make your soldiers survive (not be x/2+) + sac outlet Smoke Shroud + a way to make the tokens be ninjas + sac outlet Breath of Fury + haste + one extra creature Infectious Rage +way to give Siona protection from enchantments or red (and opponents without creatures ) + a way to make your soldiers survive (not be x/2+) + sac outlet
Rancor + Phyrexian Altar = Infinity (throw in enchantresses like Mesa Enchantress for drawing your whole deck then sacing it to not deck out, Soul Warden or other soul sisters/brothers for infinite life)
Concordant Crossroads can give your creatures haste while being a cheap haste enabler.
Siona is a human and a solider. She also makes human soldier tokens. Which means human + soldier tribal synergies. Such as Catapult Master to turn your large army of dudes into a boardwipe. Catapult Squad can turn your dudes into an anti-attacking/blocking deterrent. Daru Warchief to make her survive better at boardwipes but also to make Siona and other soldiers cheaper. Thalia's Lieutenant and Champion of the Parish get monstrously big because of how many humans enter the battlefield. Also Cavalry Pegasus makes all your attacking humans get flying. Heron's Grace Champion for big life swing.
(Well at least I now have two decks minimum for EDH from this set. Siona and Thassa. Also speaking of the pair they would go quiet well together as Thassa is an indestructible Conjurer's Closet.)
Well, considering she can be a commander (meaning instant access to her) and that she is in white (Enlightened and Idyllic Tutor, Three Dreams, Heliod’s Pilgrim, etc) let alone her own effect, going infinite is all but bound to happen.
Outside of that, she makes an amazing enchantress voltron general very much on theme with Xena!
Sure there is room for voltron in the same deck that is creating infinite life/tokens/card draw.
Which I feel is what separates her from a lot of other enchantress commanders. She is always pushing you forward. Getting more cards in your hand, making a bigger board presence. And because of her natural abilities, she allows for big combo plays. As she not only digs for your combo pieces, but is a combo piece as well.
Her + Shielded by Faith + Concordant Crossroads is a thing of beauty
Having Crossroads in deck and doing the combo above for infinite mana and casting genesis wave would be amazing. Drop the library on board and turn it sideways lol

She I would say is borderline mythic in her actual capabilities. As its rare that a legendary like this can enable so much at such a low rarity. Compare Siona, Captain of the Pyleas to other uncommon legendarys in the past two years. Most of them are pretty one-dimensional in what they do. Even compare her to Haktos the Unscarred or Polukranos, Unchained or Aphemia, the Cacophony. While they seem to do a lot, they are actually relatively simplistic commanders, some technically weaker than Siona here. Haktos is basically "play global effects, use chalice of the void to protect his weakspot". Polukranos is more about contesting the board and potentially getting bigger with Vigor. Aphemia doesn't feel legendary, like at all.
So far the most comparable is Heliod, Sun-Crowned in terms of power among the gods as he actually has two cards to instantly win with Walking Ballista and Triskelion. But he is also limited by his color identity in mono-white. Which is what helps Siona shine, she has two colors. Purphuros, Bronze-Blooded is a follow-up as he has tricks of his own like Blightsteel Colossus that can just end an opponent right there. Thassa, Deep-Dwelling doesn't have quiet the same combo potential, but she definitely has value over time and can very easily start stealing most creatures with things like Chamber of Manipulation. Nylea, Sharp-Eyed I'm not sure on, probably second-fiddle. Erebos, Bleak-Hearted I feel will play second-fiddle to a stronger black commander.
For Demigods, unless the red or green one has some real kick behind them, its no contest. Siona easily breezes past them with the kind of invisible power she brings.
Aside from a fairly cheese deck with Thassa, Deep-Dwelling in Theft.deck, Siona, Captain of the Pyleas is the commander that makes my brain really churn with ideas on how to build and improve her.
EDIT: Geez even thinking about it, Siona puts Klothys, God of Destiny to shame and Klothys is supposed to be one of the main faces for the set. Athreos, Shroud-Veiled is practically a WB version of Thassa when it comes to theft.deck.
And that is why I feel like I'm taking crazy pills over here. Just holy tap-dancing yawgmoth, the powerlevel of Siona is unreal.
You wouldn’t think Thassa would lend herself to theft strategies, but here we are.
Listen. After the whole thing Kiora, she seems pretty open about it. Why sink ships when you can have more worshippers by utilizing songs like those made by sirens?

I like the way you think my good sir.
I’ll agree Siona feels like a powerful rare at the very least. I really admire how this set is coming together. Who would have thought we’d see a legend that makes us excited not just for enchantments, but auras? And Xena no less. The art too, damn. Sadly she is not in my colors for commander, but I’m getting a copy
As for Thassa, archaeomancer and temporal manipulation loop is the way to go.

Will add those to mine. But yeah she is amazing. Quickly brewed up a decklist for Siona, its incomplete but thats fine, its still got 14 open deckslots. Also another haste enabler is Crashing Drawbridge.

I like this start! If you're going to play 4+ enchantress creatures, I'd add several more enchantments to the deck to make sure you get the benefit of them. Maybe a couple more basic cheap auras that replace themselves, and enchantment creatures like Eidolon of Blossoms (more draw!) or Courser of Kruphix. Or white enchantments that double as removal, Banishing Light and friends.
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

Seems cool : o
Combine with Shielded by Faith in EDH and go ham.

Cloudshift / Conjurer's Closet / Flickerform / Aluren + Cloudstone Curio as ways to repeatedly have Siona's ETB effect trigger.
Sigarda's Aid and Vernal Equinox to give the enchantments flash.
