I have a question. Has the story officially been said to take place before War of the Spark or do people want it to help bring Dack's story to a close? I don't mind either way I'm just curious.
Color wise when being weighed with Eldraine I see white green maybe white red being represented. I don't see Estrid unless they take blue from her because we just had the royal scions, Oko, and now we have Ashiok. I think if they did do Dack it would probably have to be mono-red as not only do we have the scions in the same colors, but also Ral.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone
It's just speculation. One of the theories is that The Wanderer is Elspeth which means that she has already escaped the underworld in WAR.
I did hear in the Forsaken novel that the wanderer wears a golden mask, but from the art in Theros beyond death she seems to have gotten better from... dying. Is the planeswalker from TBD supposed to be her Eidolon and the wanderer is supposed to be her returned? Or are people speculating that when she leaves Theros she becomes the wanderer and loses her ability to control her jumping because she's no longer on the plane?

We don't know the exact yet. Just hypotheticals regarding who The Wanderer is. And because of that we don't know if this set is set before or after WAR. The occam's razor would imply Elspeth as Wanderer and that this takes place in the past.
The shaky feature is Dack. If he doesn't show up in some story piece or card even as a cameo, then its safe to say it takes place after WAR and The Wanderer connection is weaker. If he does show-up then The Wanderer connection is stronger.
An easy way to compartmentalize Dack in this case is Schrodinger's Cat. He is simultaneously alive and dead for this set until the third planeswalker is known.

My theory for Dack has three parts. One is the foresaken novel with Wanderer having a golden mask hints to her being Elspeth (as much as I dislike this idea) which would set it after War. We don't knowing anything else or even how Elspeth has escaped out for anything for Theros yet. From the video explaining escape they mention the underworld been leaking which has let things escape.
Second is Dack wasn't originally in War and was only decided to be killed off later when the novel was fleshed out more from a draft. This makes me think Dack might have been similar to Garruk where the creative team cut him knowing he'd be in Theros soon enough.
Finally the author of War of the Spark made a comment about how he went light on certain character since he was told they were planned for future story lines, using Tibalt one line cameo as an example since Tibalt was gonna be in the Chandra comic (RIP), EDIT: and might explain why Ashiok didn't even cameo in the story.

I think the lack of Starfield on shadows is missleading if that is suposed to be her eidolon. I m more thrown by the trailer and the interaction of Ashiok and Elspeth.
Maybe, just maybe, Theros beyond Death can be placed before War of the SpOk and the set story can be how Elspeth got out of the underworld first by being controled by Ashiok (to maybe kill a god, soo Ashiok can make a new one) and later on the story her body gets separated from her Eidolon creating the Wanderer in the process. As The Wanderer can be a returned (and her identity in war was unknown, kept a secret). Also if we take into accont that some people seemed to have recognized the wanderer we can then assume that if Theros beyond Death story is before war then it must happen around the time frame of BatleForZendikar-ShadowsOverInistrad-Kaladesh-Ixalan-Dominaria soo that after she becomed a returned and started planeswalking there would be time for people to see her.
If The Returned is Elspeth after Theros Beyond Death events then it can explain where Ashiok was in War (maybe looking for the returned Elspeth) and why we didn't see it make a cameo or do anything.
___________
For the people who readed the rest of the war novels: Did it was confirmed that planeswalkers could not resist the beacon? All the walkers in the multiverse got lured and went to ravnica? Is there still "planeswalking" time in post meading (like taking longer to travel to distant planes)?
Can't recall honestly, then again I skimmed it. All I know is that any talk of a character not showing up in WAR was stated because the character was meant for a different set (Garruk, Will, Rowan, etc).

The Beacon wasn't irresistible. It was essentially a shiny 'hey come here' sign. Of course because planeswalkers are essentially magpies it was nearly irresistible but literally the first thing we know about the beacon is that the gatewatch essentially ignore it for a moment or two.
I think this thread should be renamed. MaRo 100% did NOT confirm it is a new walker. The person asked "is it a new walker *or* someone we've seen before" and MaRo's answer was simply "yes :)" - it wasn't a yes or no question!
He was possibly, maybe saying that it is both a new walker and someone we haven't seen before. Like some convoluted way. But it's just as likely he was simply jokingly not answering the question. Either way, we can't glean from this that the third walker is a new character. It certainly isn't confirmed by MaRo's post.

They could resist it but it magical "tugged" at them and blared for help until they came. They said something to the tune of the longer the beacon was on the farther it spread across the multiverse and new walkers kept arrive even after the war was going on while, so it seems like some walkers might have missed it. I'd guess a walker was in a special part of a plane (such as Nyx/underworld on Theros or spirit world in Kamigawa) the beacon might have also not reach them.

Eh, honestly feels like people reaching because they want Dack. I don't believe they said anything to the effect of "every Planeswalker we've ever had is showing up in WAR or in a set within a year" that I recall at least.

Since The Wanderer has that gold returned mask and the identity is intentionally kept secret, the theory is that The Wanderer is Elspeth. But if that is true then this set would have to take place in the past as evident by the fact that Elspeth's armor is still damaged from Heliod betraying her. Which means Dack would be alive and would be in the underworld.
However, if the connection between Elspeth and The Wanderer is a red herring, then the set actually takes place in the present and Dack is confirmed dead.
That isn't reaching, this is legitimately the story being unclear. As Theros Beyond Death is looking to be one of the most story dry sets in a long time.
To be honest I don't think that thing on the shoulder is a mask. Did it say so in the book or did the book says she is wearing a mask? When looking at the picture of The Wanderer (at full size) its looks more like an ordinary pauldron. In her other pictures like on Wanderer's Strike we can see it from another angle. In the alternate Japanese artwork we see that she has a pauldron on the other shoulder, too. That one in form of a bird. Well even if that thing isn't a mask, she could still be Elspeth. Keep in mind that she doesn't seem to have the mask on her Theros card. I, for now, doubt it. We can see white hair on her ordinary card and Elspeths hair is still brown.

In the book they can't see her face because she wears a Golden mask. The "white hair" are stripes (clothing), just another "layer" to keeping the identity of this character unknown.

Well, than the artworks are misleading because you can clearly see her nose. The original art could be a mask but looks more like her actually face (Nose and lips). The jap. one is a face. Her returned mask was gigantic.
It is still possible but there are some questions like: Why is she using that Sword instead of Godsend? This would destroy the disguise for us but I don't thing that the planeswalkers/character would recognize the black Godsend, except maybe Ajani. Why is she disguised in the first place? Where/When did she gain that planeswalking anomaly? Why is she searching for the reason of her different working spark, she should know it if the spark wasn't like that from the beginning? And some information about "The Wanderer" Wiki page are strange, too: She lies to Ral, because she implied that Tez was responsible for her disfigurement. And Sarkhan knows her but if I am not mistaken Elspeth never met Sarkhan (at least we never heard of it?).

The japanese alternative arts shouldn't be used at all as a reference for what the walkers look like.
As for the inconsistencies. The assumption is something happens towards the end of this story that makes her the wanderer as obviously it isn't simply a returned elspeth. And it being set in the past means other things can happen between its finish and War such as meeting sarkhan.
What if it's Xenagos, somehow having regained his spark and returned from the underworld?
edit: or gideon because why not, it's not like the plots have been all that good so far.
[Chandra only liked brawny 'decidedly male' men like Gids.]
The Wanderer: "Hey Chandra! Its me. Gids." [The Wanderer takes off their hat and mask, revealing themselves to a be female version of Gideon. Chandra now very confused and questioning her life choices]
But for real. I wanted to like The Wanderer character, but if Theros is going to be drier than the Sahara Desert when it comes to story content, it just gives me all the red flags about the character if its meant to be Elspeth.
Does this set take place before War of the Spark, because if it doesn’t Dack had his spark ripped from him and he turn to ash in War. (Happened in the novel he was an important character.)

The speculation is that it may take place before the War. We don't honestly know. The basis for it taking place before the War seems to tie entirely around the identity of the Wanderer though, I'm hoping it does take place after because of that.
