That’s “meh”? Seriously, get better at evaluating, you’re terrible at it.
Other then fetches, what more kind of things are people looking for in a reprint set? And the list I compiled was with about 400 cards spoiled, with anywhere from 600 to 1600 more cards to come.
He said boring, not bad. There looks to be some good stuff (although at 2000 cards, every rare is basically a mythic, and a mythic is basically a Masterpiece in terms of how many packs need to be cracked for a specific one). I don't care about the test cards either way, but it was neat that they had a gimmick. It's not great for the first card we saw on stream to be something we can't get at the LGS. It still looks decent.
As far as prices, you know those won't age well. There are certainly some excellent picks, and a lot of things I will be glad to see reprinted, but of the cards you listed, there are quite a few that are expensive because of scarcity, not play. They are welcome sights for EDH players, but like Defense of the Heart and Bloom Tender would not break $5 if as many copies as a rare in just one core set existed in the world
you get it.
meh definitely does not mean bad.
it means... its not doing anything all that exciting. once you remove the test card aspect of it all its just a huge set with the chance to open value, a diminished chance, but a chance. that's nothing we haven't seen before, and when we have seen it its been done in less bloated sets so you can open them with more consistency with less of a lotto feeling. note that i said less.
pricing will also dictate a lot of the appeal. price them too high and no thanks, price them just right and sure. lets open them every time. the minute mana crypt became an option, i anticipate a lot of gouging.
how fun of a draft environment will these create is another important question. if you're cracking them just to crack them, again, kinda meh whats so great here other than the thrill of a diluted lotto? it has a bunch of neat reprints, great. do they appear at a consistency that makes a difference? is this product available enough to make a difference to pricing? if the answers are no, then yeah, total meh. that can all be mitigated with a better limited environment... but with so many cards jammed into it is that environment going to be any good? who knows! the people testing it so far probably, but i'm seeing more hype over trying to figure out exactly whats in it than the strategies created. so... meh
I feel the same: sure there's some "value" but without the test cards there's not as much novelty or just plain fun. I'm what you call a dedicated, filthy casual but I still bought a couple of the various Masters sets and even a whole booster of Modern Horizons, not because I wanted an investment, but because I want some of the interesting cards. That was how I was feeling about these mystery boosters until I learned the test cards won't be included at retail. I would have paid a premium price before, but now it'll be wait and see if there's a deal before I buy.
The mention of 2 rares and original rarity are good points, but you didn't read my full post. I did state that all of this could change upon the release of the full list, the percentages are just really low currently, which doesn't look good. Who knows, maybe we will be surprised.

"It's like some kind of Voltron... made of elephants??"
The Mystery Boosyer has what we call straight pick-ups, meaning that we literally took the file as is and printed it (adding the Planeswalker symbol to show it’s this printing). That is a different thing than printing a new card, with updated rules text, which is how we normally make cards.
No shocklands, no fetchlands, no Liliana, the Last Hope, no Jace. Vry's Prodigy, no Liliana of the Veil, no Tarmogoyf, no Oko, no Nexus of Fate (??, this needs a reprint people!) and not a lot of meat for Pioneer so far. Also no Underground Sea, so they didn't add a Revised Sheet. Would need to parse it but I'm likekly giving this a wide pass and I hope it goes unsold in vast quantities so we can get a Pioneer Masters instead next year.
EditL Forget Pioneer Masters as this releaes next year (March 2020) to WPN stores. :-(
The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.

Okay, so a handful of hits, I do hope it is popular enough with the draft crowd for prices to drop, definitely a couple things I want......but with more than 3x the number of cards in a Standard set, it feels like the home of the hoarder where they are having a heart attack and they die because paramedics can't find them among the piles of stuff. I hope drafters love it and open LOTS of packs, but this is the easiest 'not touching a pack' for me since Dragon's Maze

No Underground Sea? These are reprints, not repacks. What possibly made you think the Reserve List was going away?
Do you think the biggest announcement in the last 20 plus years in Magic history would be announced by way of a card list spoiler?
And, while they may not acknowledge the secondary market, you believed there was a chance Wizards might be reprinting $300, $400, $450 cards? SMH, where has common sense gone...
You get 1 pre m15 card from a list of 121 cards. If we assume a regular set of 36 packs that means you'll only see each 'rare' once every 3-4 boxes. Then there's the fact that you can open garbage tier cards like Wild Nacatl or Ancient Dent just as likely as an Athreos or a Rhystic Study. If this product gets opened in any significant way a lot of cards that are a few $ now will be relegated to bulk. On top of that you get a M15 forward 'rare' as well which is again a 1 in 121 chance and you're as likely to open a mana crypt as a talrand?!
This product seems like extreme variance.set On the 1 hand you can open a pack with nothing but bulk, on the other you can open a pack with a mana crypt, Rhystic Study, demonic tutor and any other expensive uncommon from any of the colours.
welp atleast at long last we get a rhystic studdy reprint
Yeah but from amongst 1,694 cards with whatever rarity they've figured out what good does it do? There are 14 slots with their own sheet and each sheet is 121 cards. Nevermind the 15th slot has its own sheet completely outside of the full set. (I have a feeling WotC has never looked up the definition of, "set.") The E.V. should be interesting on these.
I'm slightly more interested by the news of an exclusive foil only sheet in the 15th slot, depending on the price I could be convinced to buy a few packs.
I can't see any of the lists at work, is there any rare dual land cycle included?

I’m aware of that but one thing I need to ask you
Unless mystery packs are different why is it all of you never remember the simplicity of buying singles
at that many cards... this product is a total gamble. just call it magic the gathering lotto edition because those are your odds of opening anything valuable.
Well, you can't really ev it quite like a normal set because every card is equally rare. They're all mythic from a standard set rarity and an unusual amount of slots have value. You would have to do ev of each pack slot that has value which is a lot more complicated. In a normal standard set, only 1 slot usually has much value.

This is true, but then people need to not make the argument that the "only expensive because of scarcity" cards will tank in value due to this set. There are not nearly enough of these boosters, and the cards are being so rare, for bloom tender so suddenly be a sub-$10 card just because it is one out of 2 thousand cards here.

we have no idea how many there will be. the convention ones, sure they will be limited, but the LGS ones may have a pretty good supply. it will take a LOT of packs to do anything to card prices just because it's 3x as many cards as in an actual not total BS set, but if we look at it as a rare basically being as rare as a Standard mythic, I would bet there are still more copies of Oko that have been cracked and put on the market at least once than bloom Tenders. some of these sets it's really doesn't take an absurd number of copies.....I just wish it had been a normal 3-400 card set so one Mana Crypt didn't come with a pallet of pack waste

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
A mythic only appears once per print sheet anyway, so the mythics like Mana Crypt and Sliver Hivelord are just as likely to appear individually, but you might get both in the same pack because they are on different sheets. The other cards are all, therefore just as rare as an individual mythic in a normal set, regardless of their printed rarity.
According to a solicit I saw, the Mystery Boosters come 24 packs to a display. Release date is 3/13/2020. I haven't seen a price for displays/cases yet though.

It Wizard's madness it makes sense, because with 24 boosters it's a perfect draft product for a group of 8 people, a normal draft pod. They don't care at all about the value of the cards, so let them do what they think is right, they'll always find fanboys to buy anything they do regardless.

I didn't think I was making the argument for tanking the value on "scarce" cards. Sure, Imperial Recruiter lost about 40% of it's value post M25 but who is anyone kidding? Over time the P3K version will regain those losses since it's OG.
