It's definitely not as strong as Wheel in that context. Honestly not convinced this is especially good. I guess if you can get it for BB it's good but even if you do you can only use 5 times or you have to set up some self mill. I'm unimpressed for this to be the Holy Grail.

Well yea it’s only does creatures on the field but still not too shabby
Maybe some weird Modern combo deck with this and...
One with Nothing and/or Dangerous Wager to discard your hand full of Emrakuls or Ulamogs or Griselbrands and mana ramped by SSG's ,Gemstone Caverns and Rituals and get them out Turn 3???
Real glass cannon Christmasland stuff.
PS: Wouldn't this not be the "Unholy Grail" as well?
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

I could, easily, be mistaken, but I'm like 51% sure that Cauldron is a replacement effect, thus never letting Atheros return anything.
As for the card...So is the process of being brought back via Cauldron so horrifying that your guys would rather flee to the endless purgatory of your deck than go to the graveyard to be brought back again? What's going on there?

No, actually. Usually these sort of things are replacements but, interestingly the cauldron is a trigger. If you have both the cauldron and Athreos they will both trigger, because you control both you choose the order in which they go on the stack. So put the Athreos trigger on top and your opponent will have to pay 3 or you get the creature back to your hand. If they pay the three the Cauldron trigger will resolve and put the creature on the bottom. If they don't pay the life the Cauldron trigger does nothing.
I think the card has shot in standard if Grixis Reanimator gets gets more creature support, like more competitive looters and such. Playing this for BB on turn 5 is quite powerful and splashy enough to make you work for it.
Not likely to be a tier 1 but could be a fun surprise dexk to bring to FNM.
The caudron is bad. At best is 5 mana (and pay 2 life) to reanimate a creature (IF you have 5 creatures in the grave).
In standard we already have a 5 mana reanimator card that gives the creature haste.
Yeah but beign repeatable is relevant. Standard sometimes is very grindy format where people win on tbe back of pws ults, or mass manipulating for 3 targets, or creating a token army with fueld of the dead with nothing but ramp spells and even mono-red used to play 4x of experimental frenzy.
Repeatable reanimation by turn 5 is totally worth the try for as long as you can fill your graveyard more or less safely by that point.
Cauldron of Eternity at least goes nicely in a casual Grenzo or Scion of the Ur-Dragon EDH deck. Otherwise it's a bit too play it safe for anything serious.

You put creatures back to your library only if they DIE. In other words, if you casted Buried Alive you could still put creatures into graveyard.
Also, nothing prevents you from using the Cauldron in response to a creature dying. You can reanimate a creature immediately after death, before it would be put on the bottom of the library.

was the "put on the bottom of library" intended as a good thing or a nerf of the card ? u really need a certain amount of selfmill if u wanna make this work. and not being able to reanimate the same creature twice is a bummer if u ask me. and since the reanimation cost is so high, i dont feel that part was necessary

Can you activate the Cauldron's last ability in response to the triggering of the first ability to get your creature that just died back?
Kind of displeased about this card, I had hoped for something similar to The Immortal Sun - expensive but full of goodness.
Well, that or Mox Chalice.
EDIT: Upon rereading the card, nope, as the last ability can only be activated at sorcery speed - you can't use it as long as the triggered ability is on the stack.
The cauldron is essential a mix of Wheel of Sun and Moon with a 2B 2 life reanimate on a stick
And a 1 less mana sorcery speed gravepurge I see
Well yea it’s only does creatures on the field but still not too shabby
Besides two perfect homes for edh either A Grenzo, Dungeon Warden and B Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
I would say hogaak but the cauldron prevents him from going into the yard

Card-wise, this seems reminiscent of Gate to the Afterlife into God-Pharaoh's Gift to me.

If at all i can see people die from this by being animated with Karn, the Great Creator and such stuff, simply because it has such a high manacost.
But in play, its pretty weak ...

If you want a repeatable reanimator card for EDH you can already use Whip of Erebos, Recurring Nightmare ,Dread Return, Mimic Vat etc.
Also the wheel of sun and moon effect is pretty awkward.

Nope. Sorcery speed.
Right. Cellar Door might be a good bet then.
