20 bucks a booster pack is absolutely absurd, even if they do come with cool extended art cards or whatever. it's just too much money. I'd be much more onboard with it if they were cheaper, but as it is I don't like it.
Well if the money of the collection are on Mythic rares, than opening one $20 booster will do better for you than opening 5+ normal booster packs because in those $20 boosters you will have a higher chance to pull mythics from the 3+ rare and mythic cards that comes inside and also if you want some foil common and uncommon cards those booseters will have them in more quantity than the normal 5 boosters(1 rare or mythic with extended art; 1 foil rare or mythic; 9 foil common and uncommon; 3 special frame cards; 1 acillary card=non foil cards of the set that are not in the draft boosters= buy a box, pw decks, etc). But anyway they will still have the normal 15 card boosters with 1rare or mythic rare, 3 uncommons and commons with the possibility of opening one foil
Also they did something similar for alara but it was lame in comparison with this new model.
Collector's booster probably doesn't impact the average player much at all. I know a couple that really love to pimp their collection, including one that got all the expiditions, but most players will probably ignore it like every other super flashy special foil thing.
I know it's Hasbro's choice to increase pricing as much as they want. It's also up to the player base to not be morons and keep buying in.
$7 to $10 to $13 for Masters sets (No extra value added as pricing increased), $8 for Modern Horizons (pretty much a standard pack with a garbage art card). Now a $25 pack... SMH... These should be $12 tops. Sadly people will keep pumping money into overpriced products and make them even more overpriced.

There’s still a good chance I can ignore this and most of these future Collector Boosters for whatever set is released, but good God I’m terrified for when they do release a set with a fair amount of Slivers which do get these premium foil treatments AND to have to track down a fair amount of foil Sliver tokens.

...Four of which have other premium frame treatments instead, which, given the increase in foil frequencies are going to be able more valuable. I'm guessing you have the chance of getting the foil version of those premium treatments as well.
So, expensive, yes. But I think these are probably going to roughly compare to regular boosters in expected value for money.

All of this is leaving me *shrug*?
The all-foil boosters are great, but I won't get them unless there are absolute bombs in the set.
Throne of Eldraine looks thematically awesome, but as I tweeted to Magic, this looks like another set without Zendikar fetches or other Modern/Eternal staples being re-printed.
I don't see anything here that would be a "Major Change". That would involve retiring an eternal format, formalizing a "staples" reprint policy or somesuch.
The 25th year was super cool for a bunch of reasons, but this year has been pretty hit and miss.

I am looking forward to the Collector Booster and I am interested to see what ends up happening with them. Since every card I use is foil (that can be foil) and I enjoy using this Extended Art or Borderless cards, this seems pretty good.
The one thing that gets me, and it bugs me about the annual Commander release as well, is getting cards that *don't* get foil treatment. I saw the article for Brawl and the new Signet. And I saw we could get the Signet in the Collector Booster but, it appears to only be in the ancillary slot, which is only non-foil. So, yet another product that has cards aimed at Commander (if more limited than normal) that also doesn't offer a foil option. Even though they are putting those cards into packs. It seems kind of dumb.
I know it is a small issue but it still would have been nice if they fixed this "problem" with the cards in Commander decks since they seemed to be set up to do so here.
People do realize foil prices will now be much lower now that the supply is higher, right?

No it won’t. The Collection boosters are a limited product run, like Masters sets were. WotC is still trying to get people to buy masters set except their charging even more and only putting stuff from the current set in it.
Im mean seriously....
Players- Hey WotC we really have a problem with masters sets. They cost to much and aren’t available enough for players to really get.
WotC- Ok so will make this the last one....and charge $4 more dollars for it.
Player-Why!.!?!?!?!?!
Months later
WotC- So We took the time and thought about it and we found a solution to masters sets problems.
Players- Ok lets hear it.
WotC- They’ll be tied to the regular set. They’ll only have reprints if its in that set.
Players- Thats not what we wanted. We never said we didn’t want a reprint set.
WotC- But now you can get more foils and special variant frames and alt artwork.
Players- Ok thats not entirely a bad idea.....
WotC- Then we put them in a separate booster you can buy so you don’t have to buy so much.
Players- Yeah thats.....wait what.
WotC- And included you favorite ideas from masters sets
Players- Don’t say it, don’t you dare....
WotC- They be limited print run and cost $20 or $25.
Players- 😤🤯😡🤬
WotC- Awww shucks. Your welcome.

True.......If you ignore the fact that they also substantively increased the frequency of foils in all packs.
Also, technically the collector boosters also have other cards than the current set from the 'ancillary' products like planeswalker decks and buy-a-box promos. So that's something.
Fix Mana-Screw and Mana Flood for once... its been 25 years already. Dont tell me you can't come up with a solution. L5R made it look easy.

I see time and time again players winning games while holding 2-3 lands in hand...
Mana flood and mana screw are parts of the game, get over it. There is a number of ways to make it have less impact over a game than what you are giving credits for. Mulligan and card draw and shuffle are important parts of competitive play, also the deck building process have a huge importance on top tier play. With mulligan you can make sure you have plays to do in the early game (the most important turns for control and aggro decks) with shuffle and other library manipulation you make the odds more in your favor on not drawning lands, with card draw you have card advantage which means you have more chances on not drawning blanks (lands), in deck building you make sure your overall chance of drawning lands is high enough for the deck you will play (agro plays about 20, midrange plays about 24, control plays about 25-26 depending on the format)(this on 60 cards decks). And over all those things luck would still be a huge factor over a game (but the above are ways to get around bad luck). If you think mana flood and screw are bad and you don’t want to play around it, teach people how to play around, then maybe you should play Hearthstone or adapt and make a format around its rules(in mtg). If you think the randomness of the game is not good then there are a lot of non random games over there, or with less randomness on the mechanic, miniatures games should be the best for you, or maybe Anarchronism if you want to play with cards.
To fix mana screw on your games try something like Hearthstone and make decks without lands and give 1 land drop for every player on their turn, simple.

To fix mana screw on your games try something like Hearthstone and make decks without lands and give 1 land drop for every player every single turn, simple.
The problem with fixing mana flood and mana screw is that solutions come with their own problems. Mana flood and mana screw are part of the balancing force in that game. It's not easy to just get rid of them, and by this point, MtG has been built around them as part of the challenge of deck building. And still, we have the recent mulligan changes which somewhat help with consistency.
Now I also wonder if anyone will be selling Russian ones on Cardmarket, and what a premium those will demand... :|
Well Throne of Eldraine will have one premium booster as part of the Buy a Box promo but they are only available in English and Japanese for now.
Alternate card frames has been a thing a while now. Proliferate rules change few months ago was bigger than this.
I would argue that the Collectors Boosters are more impactful to the average MTG player than the change to Proliferate was.
