so is a Gingerbread man a construct or an elemental? I noticed one in the artwork which could just as well be a creature (then again with Magic Artwork it could be anything).
The end of paper Magic tournaments is nigh. All the "pro" events and qualifiers will be through Arena starting in 2020. Profit margins are higher, and there's no need for judges or TOs, or to scrounge enough physical product on hand to supply players and have prize support.
I would also not be surprised if the announcement stated that "Throne of Eldraine" will be the last paper Magic product.
hahahah OPPOSITE! They're printing 10 new alternate art full art foil non foil showcase borderless versions of every card, available in one of 100 new booster pack variants!
August 1st for commander 2019 spoilers guys can’t wait
By what the article saids I hope they are not brawl decks
What I got from the article the four brawl decks are going to be tied and released with Throne of Eldraine. I just hope they say that they are changing Brawl to be tied to Arena's historic format instead of standard. Lately, I've been playing more Arena than paper and would love to play something close to commander on it, but I really don't want decks I make to rotate out.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone
So at 20-25 bucks a shot for Collector's Boosters we now have the $500 Booster Box (assuming 24 per box). I believe Rudy from Alpha Investments guessed this (or was tipped) and spoke about it on a video a few months ago.
Greed much Hasbro?
I'm guessing the 100 dollar "MSRP" Super Duper Timmy-tastic Collector Ultimate Booster PACK will be out by 2021 at this rate.
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.

Not really greed if a segment of players want these special cards. It makes sense to me as one of the only ways to keep people buying your product is by offering cosmetic differences to players so they feel unique. Fortnite has made a large fortune for Epic doing just that.
It doesn't affect anyone's ability to play the game and people who want it can buy packs to get cooler looking cards.
what an utter disappointment. I can't believe I got excited for this.
Between his insufferable public persona and the endless parade of gimmicks, MaRo has had a net negative effect on this game.
And to anyone saying this is good or you can opt in or whatever:
I opened 4 boxes of unstable and was unable to complete the set. The rare variants with the same name and the mythic distribution made it very difficult to open all the cards. That kind of exclusivity is relatively harmless in a supplemental joke set. Thrones of Eldaine is not a supplemental joke set. This announcement is just another step towards a frighteningly greedy business model. For them to phrase it as "options" is pouring salt in the messy wound that is secondary market prices, investors being taken more seriously than players, the selective scarcity of in-demand cards, and the nightmare that is the reserve list.
Obviously profit is an inextricable part of WotC's business model. Are they hurting for profits? Do we know exactly where they lie on the spectrum here? Have they given the players any clear info on the secondary market (not just a statement, a proper analysis)? Do they share data on why cards are banned? On which cards they reprint based on demand (again, not anecdotes, data)? As far as I know, they do not. The changes just announced are so poorly justified and exacerbate the problem.
Yes, if you're an adult with a stable income or remotely aware of online sellers, then this won't affect you in the short term. I obviously love this game or I wouldn't still be playing it after 10+ years. I mainly draft and this doesn't affect me at all, mechanically. The game is not the problem. The business aspect undoubtedly is.
Ask yourself why a company would implement these changes before you buy another Magic: The Gathering sealed product.
Well, if you feel you must collect all versions of all cards, it probably sucks for you. If you take a more realistic approach, though, it makes it easier to collect all of a certain subset such as regular version or even foil version since the pull rate for foil is higher and there are competing pimpness treatments with the other options being likely better for competitive decks due to the foil problem.
what an utter disappointment. I can't believe I got excited for this.

I'm not 100% sure what you think the problem is. It seems to be the idea that with these new premium styles it will be expensive to collect them all? Because that's seems like a pretty narrow problem compared to the benefit of adding all the new things for people to collect. I reckon a lot more people will care about the variety than the cost of getting everything. Why should things be restricted to some certain standard of affordable if you want to tick the relatively arbitrary box of getting everything? If you get everything under this new system, you're getting more than you did previously. Of course you're going to pay for that. If you're resigned to collecting everything, why would you expect the game to limit itself for the sake of your affordability? After all, isn't the extravagance of getting everything kind of the point?
20 bucks a booster pack is absolutely absurd, even if they do come with cool extended art cards or whatever. it's just too much money. I'd be much more onboard with it if they were cheaper, but as it is I don't like it.
I am huge on capitalism. Sell what you want to sell. Buy what you want to buy(or don't buy). But there are lines manufacturers step over into Greed-Town. And 25 dollars for a PACK of Super Timmy Ultra Special cards is way past that line. Hasbro, the money dries up at some point. Of course they know this and the cash grab before the end is a sign.
I won't be taking part of these at all. I will let others "waste" their money as they see fit.

I was kind of hoping they would make the themed boosters always have two rares/mythics in them, but the rest has me looking forward to it. The art for the set is looking great.
After all, isn't the extravagance of getting everything kind of the point?
No, it wasn't. Sorry if that was unclear. The goal was not to complete the set. We drafted that set over the course of several months. We do this regularly and usually come very close to a complete set after 1 box, with just a handful of singles remaining in the rare or mythic category. We have never, EVER missed commons after only 1 box. That was the situation we were in once we dismantled and sorted what we had drafted into binders. We had, for example a playset of everythingamajig, but we didn't actually because we had only three unique versions. Surely you can see the problem of that sort of design philosophy, if not the particulars of unstable printing patterns, rubbing shoulders with power level if it is adopted by the producers of the game across the board. Something frighteningly close to this has been announced here.
Anyway, the point is not excess, it's availability. Right now we have a broad guarantee that the differences are cosmetic (and I would argue that false scarcity for cosmetic purposes is skeezy anyway, but ignoring that for now) but how long until they aren't? How will additional level(s?) of rarity impact secondary market prices? It has already made an impact on primary market prices.
