I guess she could theoretically see Standard play in a Mardu Midrange deck that uses Angel of Grace and a nice curve of other Angels, Demons, and Dragons. That feels pretty far away, though.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Is it me or does feel like I’m seeing previews for Commander 2019 and not coreset 2020?
At least 40% of Magic (probably even more if you only look at casual) is Commander nowadays.
Also, Wizards is still pretending that Brawl is a thing, so they have to keep printing legends to "satisfy the demand" for commander options for that format as well.
And I do love the fact that atleast one 5-color legend in A set clause is something I like big time
(I’m still waiting on a spirit tribal one O-Kagachi doesn’t support the tribe and Morophon I still want a pure 5-color spirit legend that supports)
Now the legends
Kaalia 2.0 nice a more causal version of her and confirms we will see some support of those tribes in this set
Now for golos....I’m in love this is probably one of the best any theme you want 5 color legend yet heck this is the best land focus five color commander you could use since he can get you any land you wish I call him solemn simulacrum’s father and he makes Jodah a laughing stock since heck can cheat 3 things out for 0 from the top when for jodah you have to do WUBRG for everything for golos it’s just once for three things and can do lands
And anything that tutor to the top of your library is auto include for this legend and stuff to put from your hand/graveyard on top of your library is auto include too
And people are already thinking of doing scout tribal with this robot too
I really wondering if is Commander a subpart of Magic or every Magic's set nowadays is just a subpart of Commander.
That said, sad that the original Kaalia seems to strong for standard or even modern and we have to see this crap instead but super happy about the new colorless legend.
We now lose part of every set to both Limited, and Commander. Just how it is.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think Kaalia is crap. Sure, she's not as Vast as the previous one, but a potential draw 3 for 3 on a decent stat body seems good. She even fits nicely into her other version's deck.
Also the people complaining about every set being a commander set... come on. Let's be real. Magic is bigger than standard. WotC said they make cards in all sets to fit a lot of formats, and of course they will aim to print cards for their most popular ones. Don't get so twisted about a format you don't play. I certainly don't get mad about all the rarest they print that are "sideboard" cards for standard and modern (and boy, let me tell you, there are a lot of them).

I don't think old Kaalia is playable in standard or modern. A 2-toughness 4-drop that has to survive a turn to do something and requires you to draw it and a large creature?
New Kaalia, on the other hand, might actually be standard playable. Efficient creature that draws you another threat when it enters the battlefield, as long as you can pull off the mana and as long as there is at least one angel/demon/dragon worth playing.
Also, Wizards is still pretending that Brawl is a thing, so they have to keep printing legends to "satisfy the demand" for commander options for that format as well.
And you say Brawl isn't a thing because...?
And, do tell, what motivation do you suppose WotC has behind 'pretending that Brawl is a thing'? I would have thought a business like WotC would only make products to meet a demand if the statistics that they regularly collect suggested that such a demand existed.
We are getting so many legendary creatures and stuff to go with it. I mean 5 wedges with a theme to each and a legendary for each wedge makes this feel like the first of two commander sets.
The thing is, legends and wedge cards aren't just a Commander thing. At all.
I mean I’m not complaining (considering I only play commander) just kind of find it odd. Interesting cards so far though.
When people start to feel like there are a lot of Commander cards, it's very easy to see lots of cards as Commander cards and focus on those ones. No one is crunching any numbers here, people aren't even waiting to see what formats the cards actually see play in. It's just an impression.
As for the “new kaalia is weaker than old one” this sometimes can be a GOOD thing. If people like kaalia but their meta tends to lower powered, having a weaker Kaalia can be nice to prevent everyone hating you/archenemy you.
How and I just have to say... Scroll Rack /JtMS/Brainstorm/any tutor that puts on top of library are going to be SO BROKEN with new Scout commander...hmm... let me put omniscience, stretch time, and Ulamog on top of my library... now activate my scout... I wonder what is on top...
I think the new Kaalia has a place in the Mardu midrange lists in standard. They utilize a lot of 4 and 5 drop angels, demons or dragons that this will help curve into. Digging six deep on turn three for one of 4-8 cards has a decent chance for success.
So nobody here has brought up how Golos, Tireless Pilgrim can tutor for Cascading Cataracts to turn its activated ability on in big mana decks? That makes it mounds more playable than its 5-colour activated ability would imply, especially outside of EDH.
Kaalia would have been better in MH1, it'd be so fun with all those Changelings running around. Golos has me very intrigued, a legendary artifact creature with a proper name that doesn't seem to be a mindless automaton or construct? I can't recall anything like that except Karn himself.
Brawl is dead sadly, always empty on mtgo. I used to play brawl 1vs1 which fired often and was awesome, but they killed it. Still hope for its return.
They killed it because we, as players, killed it. Everyone hated on it so hard, when in reality I thought it was pretty fun. Hopefully they can resurrect it.
I'm pretty enthused for Goros. I'd been going back and forth over to who to make my lands matter general in EDH and thought I'd go with Ydris. Instead I can go with this, play all the cool lands matter stuff and get my first 5 color general.

Memnarch?
True that, then again, Memnarch appeared in the original Mirrodin block, waay back in 2003. I hope they expand on Golos' history at some point.

Kaalia's name sounds familiar

It's almost like Commander is one of the most popular formats. But god forbid WotC cater their products according to their audience.

I knew someone would say it.
C'mon people, printing some cards that are good in Commander doesn't mean MtG is now all just designed around Commander.
