Except for protection colors, I think it’s not good. I don’t know any modern or legacy deck that use both artifact and planeswalker except Tron or red prison.
For maximum value, you want to hit both obviously. That will matter in multiplayer, but 1v1 is unlikely.
Think of it this way then, and suddenly it makes a little more sense.
This sword takes away the choice "hit planeswalker" vs "hit life total".
That could make a mayor difference for aggressive strategies vs GBx midrange (lili's), URx control (Jace's) or even TRON (Karn/Ugin) for instance.
For the artifact removal i struggle to find any real application apart from against Hollow One but those can block too, next to that most played non-creature artifacts are used to either prevent attacking or provide some control. Even Aether Vial is able to drop something in front it the equipped creature.
In the end though, without efficient ways to find and play singleton swords in your 75. They unfortunately probably won't see play at all.
Whoa, are they all on Tarkir? That’s neat and makes a ton of sense in terms of dual cycles.
But. Neither of them are on Tarkir? Truth and Justice has a pegasus knight and a castle. This one has generic dragons that don't match any of the dragonlord broods.
I do appreciate they're all by Chris Rahn again. He'll forever have a slew of cards to sign.
I'm fairly certain that the white, feather-winged, long-tailed creature on Sword of Truth and Justice is an Ojutai-brood dragon.
Also, the banners on Sword of Sinew and Steel look fairly Mardu/Kolaghan. The dragons can plausibly be young Kolaghan-brood dragons from a distance.
this card supports modern cos it'll be worth a ton, as swords always are, so you can trade it for teferis and karns
the designers behind this set must REALLY be worried that people won't buy it unless it's jam-packed with economically-strong cards
and forgot that not every card which sells is worth anything competitively

I also think the BR sword is on Tarkir, but the Sword of Truth and Justice was aparently confirmed by the artist to be on Dominaria.
Well this is one absolutely perfect for commander. Removes two thirds of the difficult to remove permanents and doesn't draw aggro, and it's easier to connect in multiplayer. woop woop

I think this is the right way to evaluate the card, especially since it can slide into any deck that may not typically be able to deal with those permanent types. Like pretty much every single sword of this cycle, it's not designed for Modern playability.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
This may have the worst of all swords triggers but let's not forget that it also has arguably the best protection being black and red have the most removal bar none.
I just wanted to point out a few things about this sword that might not be obvious to everyone here to clarify why this sword is not only ridiculous, but more powerful than the other sword in the set, Sword of Truth and Justice.
For Modern:
Most swords haven't seen any play since Stoneforge Mystic was banned. So whether it's playable there isn't so much of an arguement. Modern set yes, but it's obvious by now that WotC caters to multiple formats with sets like these.
For Commander - Sword of Sinew and Steel Pros:
* It has pro 2 colors, one of them being black. Black is one of the most heavily played colors and in today's tendency for 2+ color commanders, you still have a fair amount of the board being unable to block this thing.
* You can target "up to one" of both a Planeswalker and/or an Artifact. Unlike most swords (Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of Body and Mind, Sword of War and Peace), you can target different permanents than have them directed at/limited by the person you've just attacked.
-- You can attack the vulnerable opponent to hit 2 targets that are controlled by 1-2 other opponents.
* You can blow up your own artifacts if needed. (ex. Spine of Ish Sah)
* You don't have to decide whether to swing at a Planeswalker or at your opponent, you can have your cake and eat it too.
* Gives conditional removal to decks that might not have access to straight up Planeswalker or artifact removal.
* If there are no planeswalkers or artifacts out, opponents are unlikely to play them if they can't protect them or outright blow up your sword with them. This means that your opponents aren't progressing in the game as fast as you might be.
For Commander - Sword of Sinew and Steel Cons:
* Like all swords, you might not have protection from the color(s) you want at the time you need it.
* Like all swords, you might have to build around effects in your deck if you plan on targeting your creatures with colored effects that the sword protects against.
* You might not have a Planeswalker and/or an Artifact to blow up (Though this is super unlikely in multiplayer since just about everyone is playing one or the other, or both in their deck).
For Commander - Sword of Truth and Justice Pros:
* It has pro 2 colors, one of them being blue. Blue is one of the most heavily played colors and in today's tendency for 2+ color commanders, you still have a fair amount of the board being unable to block this thing.
* You can give one of your creatures a +1/+1 counter... and then give it another one if nothing else you have has counters.
* You can proliferate, so there's a high upside for Planeswalkers and other permanents that have counters.
For Commander - Sword of Truth and Justice Cons:
* Like all swords, you might not have protection from the color(s) you want at the time you need it.
* Like all swords, you might have to build around effects in your deck if you plan on targeting your creatures with colored effects that the sword protects against.
* You can give one of your creatures a +1/+1 counter... and then give it another one if nothing else you have has counters... (Obviously this has a more exponential curve of utility. While the ceiling is quite high, the floor is in the basement.)
* Gives conditional proliferate to decks that might not have as much access to the effect.
I for one hope that popular opinion on this one tanks, because it just means that I'll be able to scoop up copies for cheaper than I should be able to.
i don't like it. its flavorful sure, but there aren't always targets for it. even in commander games. so sometimes its just not going to have that epic swordiness that the others have, that feeling of inevitability, that feeling of deal with me now or lose.
So we get a second sword (after War and Peace) that can completely whiff. The protections are semi-relevant I suppose, but this is definitely a step down from the power level of previous swords. Even the other one we've seen for this set is better. Pretty let down, awful name too.
It's got protection from two of the most relevant colors for removal, of course the effects are going to be weaker. Light and Shadow is the only one that does a better job protecting, and it's effects definitely have a lower power ceiling to compensate.

No. It's definitely a pegasus. And no those don't match Kolaghan dragons at all. They have 4, feathered wings. If anything they are similar to shivan dragons. All the arts might be Dominaria. Truth and Justice was already confirmed to be.
It obviously doesn't have to target anything given the wording. Same wording they've used 100 times already. Case closed.
On to more important things. The most epic name for the BR sword has always been "Sword of Death and Destruction". And then they further troll us by literally making a sword that causes death (kill a walker) and destruction (destroy an artifact) but call it neither of those things!
I propose this sword henceforth be called Sword of Death and Destruction instead of the fail name they printed on it. (All swords are made of steel. And sinew, being muscle, leans green.)
For maximum value, you want to hit both obviously. That will matter in multiplayer, but 1v1 is unlikely.

How can it force you to destroy anything if it says "up to one"?
So it does not and it allow "zero" or none at all?
Because somebody in the thread said it destroy itself.
