How is this now a way worse, rare Evolving Wilds? What am I missing?
The land doesn't come into play tapped!
HERP DERP!
Yep, that's the piece I was missing, so it's a fetch land for any basic, that's pretty crazy and I am dumb. Thanks! EDIT: I did just realize that normally you pay 1 life you can go get a shock land and you can't with this, so that's ... once again just not quite as good as I had hoped from this set. Not for a rare, maybe.
It’s definitely a card they could of priced at a Uncommon in a set not entering Standard. Still, I already have a home for it in my Titania, Protector of Argoth EDH deck.

This card is not going to appear in modern BUT I think undervaluing it is incorrect. If you're running evolving wilds/expanse in EDH you'll want this too or instead of 1 of those. The 1 life is far less relevant than the untapped right away ability when you start at 40. With that in mind I probably need 4 or 5 copies... so I hope it does end up bulk lol!
people getting into Modern (which is the supposed aim of the set)
This is definitely *not* the set to get people into modern; if anything it is a set catering to nostalgia and players who are seriously enfranchised, not people who don't where the name Tron comes from.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

How would you have designed it? Do you play any decks more then 2-3 colours?
Getting any basic for sure puts this at the power-level of the other fetches in modern. Makes for a significantly less painful draw in a lot of situations where otherwise you'd be forced to fetch-shock to get the color you need.
This is very good when you only need to make a small splash of color. Not having to run shocks and lose 2 life just for a splash is great. For example, to run a specific off-color sideboard card.
This card is great! Having virtually a 5-color fixer without always having to go get a Shockland is super critical. It will definitely have an impact on my mana-base construction going forward.
I think too much is made of this card not grabbing shocks. In many situations this is better than a traditional fetchland. I like the versatility of being able to get the color I need without having to invest 3 life to get it untapped in formats that I rely on shocklands. Starting the game on 17 is brutal against burn.
So, with the previous fetches - you can get the relevant basic. I understand the above comment about 5-C fixing, but in 2 or 3 - you didn't have to start at 17 - it is just often the best strategy for later in the game...
I play BUG Nic Fit in Legacy and most of my mana base is basic lands. This is probably better than any existing fetch for fixing my colors and will be a four of
I probably would have liked it more as an uncommon but probably still fine. This is probably gonna replace fetches that only fetch one of your colours in 2 colour decks
You really need 3 colors or more to require a fetch, and at that point you already got the true fetchlands. This card is basically "hey guys, I'm a callback to fetches that fetches stuff!" buy me bait.

Although it can't get duals like the others fetches, this land can still grab all of your colors. It lets you play what is essentially a 56 card deck, and it will probably replace off color fetches in existing decks. Also, the ability to grab wastes might add some utility, like in decks that run displacer. This is a real card

I would rather it was "pay 1 life to get a plains, island, forest, swamp, or mountain. Put that land into play tapped." Most (actually now I think of it, all of them right now) are 2-3 colors, and I'll just play with the actual fetch lands that let me grab shocks and doubles over this. But since I don't have an unlimited number of fetches, I like this is going to exist... unless it starts commanding a crazy high $ tag. Part of why I feel it should be an uncommon.

Some decks run fetches even on one or two colors. Monogreen stompy likes fetches because it’s a revolt trigger (narnam renegade) as well as a discount on Hooting Mandrills. Anything with delerium or its precursor (tarmogoyf) gets real value out of adding a card type to grave.

Should have Ben uncommon it might be exspensive because of being rare

Not sure this is gonna be cheap. It is still a rare in a $6-per-pack product. I wish this was an uncommon. Easy include in all my EDh decks.

Decks like Red-Eldrazi I can see playing it. The fact that it's any Basic Land is really important for decks that work with Wastes.
